Doberman Pinscher

Brady is my first Dobe, I adopted him from a former client of mine. Brady was born in Canada, and I don't know a lot about his lineage. I know he was an expensive puppy when they bought him, and they were not experienced dog owners. Brady was 1 1/2 years old when we adopted him. He was already neutered and his shots were up to date. He did not have much experience with the world, his owners walked him, yet he had never run full speed. He is very tall for a Dobe, and was clumsy at first, yet quickly learned to run and loves to sprint after squirrels or birds. Brady's former owners sent him away for training, however it was not very successful. He is afraid of the command "sit," backing up 6-10 feet away from you before actually sitting. I believe the trainer must have punished him for not sitting on command and now he is afraid of the word. I substituted the hand signal, and he sits readily.

Brady is a velcro Dobe, he wants to "help" me with anything I might be doing. He is very sweet and gentle, yet will put his hackles up for the smallest sound or the sight of another animal. I believe he is afraid, and he is trying to not let it show. Our female standard poodle, Tasha, is the alpha dog of the house. She is now 13 years old, and Brady is starting to be more dominant around her, when previously he was afraid of her.
