Has anyone out there seen the new Alltell commercial?  It "stars" a vicious doberman who is busy chasing a group of people.  For those of you who might find this distastefull pandering to a false stereotype, please either email alltel's directer of marketing or give them a call at (501) 661-8000.  It is the false stereotype that leads municipalities to pass breed-specific laws and insurance companies to deny doberman owners homeowners' policies.  When I called Alltell's corporate headquarters, they said that the dog was an "actor" just as the people were and they would continue airing the commercial.  But feeding the stereotype does not help the breed or its owners.

I've seen it and thought it was amusing.....I mean if it was a rottie or a pit would you still be so upset???  ???

YES! - I would ve equally upset!  We have friends who own, breed and show pitbulls - and they are not only show champions but also Delta Society certified therapy dogs.
My concern is for those of us who have "been owned" by dobermans and have had issues about homeowners insurance.  My local dobe rescue coordinator tells me she is inundated w/ dobies because the former owners havre major problems w/ insurance.  My dog comes w/ references from our postal worker and both the fedex and UPS carrier - but that may or may not help me get insurance if my current carrier ever figures out we have dobies.
As dobie owners, we KNOW that it is a major problem when irresponsible owners or backyard breeders go to town - however, any reinforcement ofa vicious stereotype hurts ALL dobe owners by playing into the hands of those who do not care about the breed.

I saw this add too. While I completely understand the concern of FiFismom, I was just kinda glad to see a Dobe on TV. Overall I think the add was supposed to be funny. It wasnt, but was supposed to be. I think that most of the American people know that the Doberman was bred for and excels in protection work. Unlike other breeds that have acquired bad reps from being aggressive unprovoked, the Dobes rep of being vicious comes from when he is told to be. For right now anyway, when I take my Doberman out I dont like to see people fear him, but I also dont mind them showing him a little respect and distance themselves.

I don't yet own a dobie, but I do get where your coming from.. I own two american pit bull terriers and they are the sweetest muffins ever.  People are going to think what they want whether it's on t.v. or not. I too was one of those who believe that pits were man eating machines before I rescued my first one...  I was ignorant and only knew the bull that media fed me

Honestly...if they wanted it to be even more amusing, they should have had "Cesar" talking with the dog at the end of the commercial...doing a little "dog whispering"!
