Last night I decided to bring out the nail filer, the Pedi-Paws... I had Dexter smell it but he didn't care about it. I turned it on and he did NOT like it at all. I tried to do a nail and he was not happy at all! It occurred to me then that maybe I shouldn't be trying it yet??

Should I wait? Should I try again using treats?

TIA!

There's a wonderful thread on here ( somewhere) re: mani-pedis ( Search for Diva meet Dremmel)

I use the dremel on my girl and the best advice I can offer is: first to read the thread as there's a lot of valuable info on it along with videos...then proceed..

DO NOT GIVE UP. Once Dexter learns that if he pulls away and you stop filing, he's won the battle..

Lady Kate, I'll search for the thread...but should I wait until he's past this Fear Imprint stage or just keep at it?

Keep at it but don't actually use it on him, bring it out near him, start it up,  let him smell it and get used to the sound.  Then slowly work on getting it closer to him.  By 16 weeks we were dremeling Rocky's nails and he will lay there and almost fall asleep now when we do it.

We started everything with Rocky as young as possible,  baths, ear cleaning, tooth brushing and dremeling are all normal routines now and he doesn't mind a bit.  It also helps him get used to be handled.
