I just brought Akira home 2 days ago. She is 8 weeks old, and already catching on to commands. The question I have is about going outside. She is scared to go outside, so I have to pick her up to go potty. There are 2 stairs she has to go down but that is it. I live in a nieghborhood full of large dogs that bark. I think this makes her a little nervous.

Not positive what question you are asking...  you shouldn't continue to carry her outside more than a few days' adjustment period.  To get her to go out despite nervousness, try luring her outside with a particularly high-value treat (pupperoni is Koko's weakness...)

And post pictures! ;)

Thank you! That is exactly what I was asking. I knew it was not good to keep carrying her outside.

Pictures are coming,

also you could try going out and just sitting on your steps and having relaxing time with her to show her that it's ok to relax and that the steps are not a bad thing, and I agree about not carrying her out too many times as that makes for a dependent puppy, my husband has done something similar with our rottie and chihuahua he walks out on the porch with them or out in the yard with them while they potty and i don't so i have to remind them that THEY go outside to potty alone I am not needed for them to go potty; it's very confusing for them, so don't get her started on depending on you to carry her outside cause that will get old and hard when she reaches adulthood :)) and she will still expect it.  Make outside fun time, treats, play, relaxing on the steps, toys etc. praise her when she is in a relaxed mode and posture outside.....

and yes post pics here in the forum

Akira  ...   Love the name.. and she is adorable..

Remember, she's still just an infant, so slow and steady. I can't imagine NOT coddling a nervous baby. ( I still do with Sofia....) but 'they' say to just encourage and make light of fears and concerns. ( Sofia still hides when there's fireworks and for some reason the people here in Baja LOVE their fireworks) I try to give her the " what's that?' with a smile on my face and in my voice... but to no avail. She's terrified of loud noises..

Stairs for pups are an issue, but only for a short time.. before you know it, she'll  be bounding down those two little steps with excitement and discovery!!

We're glad you're here and thrilled to watch this little one grow up.

We have 5 steps and we used the same on Rufus as we did on Caeser 10 years ago :) first we conquered going up part, my husband would stand on the top and I would be with Rufus normally he puts his front paws on the step right away wanting to go up and I would just help with his back legs, showing him put one a time, then front ones go up, then the back ones and after like couple times he got an idea so we were climbing up 2nd day at home. Going down was a little scarier, but the same technique showing him that first go your front legs, then back legs worked too. Maybe it's a bit too much of babying I don't know, but it worked on both our dogs :)

Thank you everybody! Akira is going outside with out any problems now. She is so much fun, she is finally taking a nap. After playing all day today. Again thank you all for your suggestions, and Tannaidhe, I think pupperoni might be one of Akira's weakness'
