well, at 4 months you shouldn't be leaving it tied up on a leash by itself... you shouldn't do that at any age.  I'm not sure why you would want to teach your dog to bark at strangesr?

I'm getting concerned.. Geez.. I just got off my soap box.. now I'm ready to climb back on

You refer to your pup as "it". So far, we've not heard a name, Had to read your profile just find out whether it's a male or a female.

You're tieing your kid up and only feeding poor "it" milk and rice???

Of course "It" doesn't bark.. the poor baby is exhausted and starving.. and who in heck would come to you knowing it would be tied up???

Sorry.. don't mean to offend..

You say " I love her"

How? What kind of training are you involved in? Where do you let her walk?

Has she had her shots?

Are you planning on cropping?

As I said, I don't mean to offend, but we're a tough crowd here and Dobermans are our lives!!

sorry for not giving the info on my princess i named her spicy after her mother(as she died defending my cousin against a snake) i thought of getting a german sheperd or labrador retriever to my home  but after seeing my cousin's spicy i got a doberman .. i got it about a month ago from my cousin ..she had her shots .after visiting my vet yesterday (in whose presence the pup's took their birth) he told me she had some physical developing problem from birth.. so he gave me some medicines to increase the hunger and vitamins in her body..she had her shots after i started to take care of her but that was very late since she has to get her shots at the age of 45days only she got it at 3 months for which i m very angry on my cousin ..i didn't plan on cropping yet ...i just tied her only for 10 min's in the home after i brought her home (since 1 month) that day only i noticed her bark other than that she is silent .. as my back yard is small for a growing doberman... i take her for long walks near my place as i stay in a village there are so many street dogs that's why i walk her on the leash i take her wherever she wants to go  ..

Hi chvarun1990,

She's still a puppy, so she will rarely bark except when she feels lonely. In the wild, puppies stay quiet most of the time, and only make noise so their family can find them. When she gets older you will have no worries about her barking at strangers. She will let you know when anyone is trying to steal.

The only time Sofia barks is when it's really important that we investigate.. She is a very quiet subdued and mellow momma.. but when she lets out that window shattering roar.. we know she means business and so does anyone else within a two block radius!!

Princess never issued a full throated Doberman bark until she was past 18 months of age. Now if she is outside, she will bark at any thing that is not normal, most of the time it the squirrels in the trees. Most of the time she follows Red's lead as he is the older and a male. When he starts barking at something he hears, she will position herself to one side of and with her head in line with his shoulders.

With my first two almost 30 years ago it was the reverse, the older and more dominant was Windy my first female and Hans was two years her junior. When she was nursing puppies, he took the lead. Once they were weaned and she was no longer in the whelping box he turned the lead back to her.

The problem you are going to have is she will read your mood. If you are welcoming to the visitors, she will be also. If you are nervous and uncertain, then she will make her presence known and will position herself beween you and the unwelcome visitor. Whether it will be barking or the full throated warning growl she will decide.

dakota barks pretty rarely, if she does it's usually because one of the neighborhood dogs wandered into the yard or someone is walking past the house...  She has one scary growl for a little girl, and late at night when she starts grumbling at the bushes, I know I wouldn't want to be whatever is on the other side lol.  We don't have too many squirreles, or rabbits or anything like that, but we have lots of deer, bear, turkey, and hawks & other big birds.

hey kevin

spicey doesn't bark at any thing at all except for one thing as i mentioned in my previous post ..

she do bark rarely... and her bark scares of my neighbours labrador retriever...when spicey barks my neighbours dog snappy sits quietly or goes into her crate ...sometimes it's fun to watch snappy to do that as she is very naughty as her owner tells me and she is elder to spicey her age is about 11months and spicey is 4 ...what a command she has on other dogs !! i am proud of my princess spicey

I had a beautiful female Doberman named Heidi...She was my first Doberman

in 1978 and SHE NEVER BARKED, she only growled deeply, yet she was very protective and hated anything Red...

I spoke to a trainer last year and he said it didn't surprise him to hear that...

Good luck and many years of good health for your Pup
