Can anyone please help me

My Doberman is 2 and never had any problems with him off lead until now! He seems to have taken a shine to chasing people on push bikes!

The bike can be as far away, like today, as the length of a football pitch, yet if he sees it, he will clear walls and anything in his way just to chase it!

Someone said he's protecting me, but I can't see it given the distance, and someone also said he needs more excersize...he gets a min of 2 x 1hr RUNS not walks, a day and on both times I end up almost dragging him home as he is that tired

Hes never before had any altercations or bad experiences with bikes at all and sometimes tries to chase cars while on the lead that are driving past, but this is rare, it's mainly push bikes

Can anyone give me advice?? Feel free to email me lindsey@a1travel.com

Thanks

He clearly is not ready to be on off leash runs.   Your recall with him should be absolute spot on if you have issues like this.   In the mean time, he needs to be desensitized to the problem.  Teach him ignore it by having him focus on you.  When he does, reward!.  If you could find someone with one of those bikes to help you would be great.  It takes time and repetitive training.

Thanks I have been taking his mind off what's going around him with his ball and this seems to help. Off lead he is normally fine, waits for me to tell him to 'go on' comes back when I should him, unless he spots a bike!

Chasing things is an instinct for many dogs, and breaking them of it can be a hard.  I agree that he should not be off leash in an open area.
