So just as soon as I think Soleil is adjusting to her new home I came home to a mess! Naughty girl decided she was bored yesterday and has taken to her new favorite activity... shredding my clothes.  Clever girl figured out how to open my laundy hamper and of course dug through it for her favoite article of clothing... undergarments! yikes! Time for a new hamper... do they make ones with locks?!
She never used to chew/ shred my clothes... I wonder if they will ever be safe again?...

Doggie Daycare for her today... only her second day so I hope she is doing well.

Now for the questions... Is it normal for a dog to become MORE vocal as she gets older.  She has been whineing A LOT recently.  She was always pretty vocal with whines and groans... heck she even makes a noise that sounds kinda like purring... Recently she has been greeting my visitors EXTREMEMLY enthusaticaly.  She sounds pathetic whineing at them while they pet her...

She also has developed a severe case of selective deafness.... I have taken to keeping her on a long lead outside so she can't ignore me....

Does this just sound like a bored lonely dobie?

Perhaps it is time for another obdience class?....

She is SUCH A CHARACTER!

I can't speak for most of the behavior problems because I am surely not a professional nor am I highly experienced (we'll leave that to the senior members).  However, what I can suggest is giving Soleil a Kong toy to help with the boredom.  We had a problem with Athena chewing on our wall and trim while we were gone and we know give her a filled Kong when we leave her for long periods and she hasn't touch a wall since.

There are several different varieties of the kong toy and a lot of different recipes on the internet.  The one that Athena really likes is a traditional Kong when we layer it as follows....kibble, peanut butter, kibble, peanut butter and then we freeze it over night.  She'll do just about anything when we pull out a fresh one and she spends several hours working at it instead of sleeping all day!

A few ideas about what you can stuff in it is:

mashed bananas, cream cheese, apples, mashed potatoes, meat pieces, carrots, celery, apple sauce, chicken broth, sweet potatoes....you get the idea!

Good Luck

C.F. I tried the Kong about a year ago... no dice, but maybe it's time to try it again...she does love celery and carrots..

Thanks Control_Freak I completely forgot about the kong! I actually own a few of the red ones and have not brought them out in a while.  I will definately give that a try... frozen peanut butter kibble sounds like something she would LOVE!

Lady Kate... I love the purring noises too! Everyone thinks I am nuts though when I tell them my Dobie purrs... they have to hear it to believe it!
