Hi all,

My boy's lost a tooth in the front, one of the incisors on top.  He's just about 4mo.  He and I play quite a bit of tug together.  It's our favorite game, in fact.  He does not give up on tug.  Hope we didn't "tug" too hard!

A cursory Google search says this is normal in puppies 4-6mo.

It's great to have you posting again! I miss hearing the updates on Ike, I bet his ears are standing now and he looks very cute.

Your situation of the tooth reminds me of my middle daughter a couple weeks ago. She has a Chihuahua about the same age as your dog. Anyhow, she called me all concerned that she looked into her dogs mouth and it had only a few teeth left and wanted to know if it was normal. I reassured her it was.

If he likes that tug that much you will be well on your way to developing the drive for Schutzhund. Remember to have other people do it as well (not the kids though) he has to be able to want that tug so bad that he will tug with strangers. I don't know when you are going to be taking him or if to a schutzhund club but beware of those that use the shock collar to train.

They start losing their puppy "needles" at about 14-16 weeks. Then they start getting their adult adult teeth. You may want to keep an eye out and when he starts losing the teeth on the side, soften his food if you are feeding dry kibble. They have trouble eating that when they don't have the side teeth.
