I am the proud new parent of an adorable six week old dobe pup. He is very sweet! I've never had such a young puppy, and I have a lot of questions. Thanks for any and all help.

Is it normal for my pup to root-as if my armpit is his mom? He is six weeks old. Also, what can be done about whining in crate at night? At other times? Sunny has toys and a nice blanket bed in his crate but still whines a bit. Is this normal? Is it separation anxiety? ... So many questions!

It is normal for small puppies to cuddle and pile. Of course with no siblings around, there is no one to puppy pile with. He is also becoming attached to your scent and is bonding. This is normal.

The separation from his siblings is why he is whimpering. This will pass with time, but when he goes to sleep, he is currently lonely. DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR HIM AND PUT HIM IN YOUR BED. Once you do that, it is all but impossible to stop. (Personal Experience with my first two 27 years ago). While a warm blooded dog may be a comfort when it's cold, they are hot in the summer. It also puts them on the same level as you, and you need to be the Alpha.

When you get a chance, we would all like to see pictures. All puppies are cute, but I think Dobie puppies are the cutest!

Hi there!

My puppy Ronnie is 8 and half weeks old.  He still does the under armpit snuggling now!  He did it to me from the first day we got him (at 7 weeks) and will do it whenever he gets the chance, although now he has started nipping my skin if i let him get away with it!

6 weeks is very young to leave the mother so i guess he is putting you in her place.  He is bound to be lonely at night. Ronnie took nearly a week before he stopped whining fully at night.  Just dont give in to him and it will soon pass.  Good luck.
