Hello:

My Doberman, Soleil is no longer interested in her food.  She used to come running when the food was poured into the bowl.  The sound alone used to be enough to make her come running and now she does not come until she is called.  Then she eats REALLY slow and only after coaxing her to eat.  ??? In all other ways she has been perfectly normal until it comes to dinner time.  Can a dog get bored with their food?  I have been feeding her the same food for a while now... I don't know what to do?  Any suggestions? Please... :-[

Hi Soleil,

maybe tou should take a stool sample to the Vet's and have it checked out. She might have some kind of parasite. If so medicine should cure it

Good Luck...

Thanks for the reply Skilos.  I hope she does not have any form of parasites... Wouldn't I see other symptoms as well if she had parasites?  She was just at the vets not too long ago and of course when we went she was fine.  She does not have diarrhea still is FULL of energy and she will eat eventually but unless she is called she is not interested in her food.  She is still VERY interested in her treats or anything I might be eating just not her kibble.  Does anyone here feed Royal Canin?  Thats what I had been feeding.  Can a dog get bored with their food ???

Hi  Soleil, sorry your still having this trouble. I feed Grendel Royal Canin maxi puppy L.breed.  He seems to like it. Have you tried skipping food for a day to see how she does when she is really hungry? Could she have fleas or have an allergy to fleas? Can you tell if she has worms in her fecal material? These are just the first things I look at if my dogs drop weight too fast.

Hey Soleil,

She might just be maturing or at a slow stage of growth. Drayko is rarely interested in his food if there's anything else to do.

This is a little late, I hope Soleil, is doing better.
No you will not see parasites, if she has Whip worm, they will be attached to her intestines, nasty little things..
Please have her checked for them, most vets do not check for them, they are not real common.
Is she on heart worm preventive? if so, ask you vet to change her to Interceptor for a while, it kills a larger range of parasites.
DO NOT SKIP A FEEDING, this could cause her to wolf down her food and bloat.. bad bad idea.
When my dobies do not eat well, I take a ground beef patty broken up in to small pieces, put it in about 1 cup of water and Microwave it for four minutes NO RAW!! and pour this over there food make sure it is not hot when you give it to her, she should eat it all up, even if she does not feel well.

Thanks for all the responses, Soleil is just fine.  We ended up switching her food and now the she back to normal.  (Nutro Natural Choice -Venison)  No weight loss actually I think she gained a little but its hard to tell.  I don't know if they (Royal Canin) changed the formula or if she just got bored with it.  Before trying Nutro I started her on Solid Gold Hund-n-flocken and she did not like that at all.  But the second I started switching her she was interested in dinner again.  She can be a picky eater sometimes and depending on her food she has skin/stomach problems.  Right now she seems to be doing good on the Nutro so we will see.  But I keep finding mixed reviews on Nutro Natural choice.  I am so confused by the dog food choices out there and the ratings and how each one says something different ??? Anyone else feed Nutro natural choice?

Hi,  I am new to this site and read your post. I to had a Dobie that was the most pickey eater. He just would not eat dog food at all. We tried all the suggestions (picking up the food after 10 minutes etc.) nothing worked. Bubba was a rescue dog so we had no knowledge of his background, Our vet who has 5 dobies said that since Bubba was an only child he was upping the ante on us. The 5 1/2 years we had him (he passed away from cancer in August) he never ate dog food or really the same thing 2 days in a row. Our new dobie Remy (another rescue) eats Blue Buffalo (dry) and Merrick's canned  Supposedly they are human grade. It is expensive, but after Bubba we don't take any chances with anything but the best. Good Luck!
