hello everyone! I have a 4 month old named Rocky. He is a great pup. I am a first time dobie - owner. always have lots of questions, any advice will be helpful. Rocky is a rock eater. We live in the desert and have decorative rock in the backyard. I try to supervise him but he still gets to them. I love all the information on this site, thank you to all.

Does he actually "eat" them or simply chew on them? Either of course is bad, but swallowing them is worse. Chewing will break teeth, swallowing could block small intestines. He is probably teething and needs something to chew on. Try to get him on the rubber toys, like Kongs, or even the rubber squeaking toys. Princess loves a thick rubber blue dog that is fairly soft but durable with a double action squeaker. It squeaks when squeezed and squeaks when released.

I got hers at PetSmart, and actually have two, one is a spare for when she would eventually chew it up, but she has had it now for several months, and has not damaged it. Here is the link:

Another toy she likes, but for a different reason as the squeaker is not that great, but she loves to grab it and shake it (killing motion). On occasion she will let it go and it will fly across the room. Once it hit the ceiling, bounced off a table and fell behind the couch. She was desperately looking for it, so I had to move the couch to rescue it for her. I have tried to find an example, but all of the current Loofa style toys are soft chewies, and of course you have probably already discovered that soft, fabric and plush toys will not last long around Doberman teeth.

I am visiting friends in East Texas (I live in S. Georgia) and they have small dogs. With their blessings I brought Princess along so we could have some one on one time. Princess was playing this morning with some of their Schnauzer toys, and eviscerated a red plush cow (stuffing all over the place in about 15 minutes) and chewed the tail off a stuffed monkey. Fortunately, my friend's wife buys them at sales for about a dollar a piece and has oodles of them for her dogs. I have started taking the plushies away from her and giving her the rubber toy to save on clean up.
