His ears are making me crazy. One is amazingly perfect, the other... ugh!! I think I need a new taping technique. I use the one on this site but altered it a bit. I only tape his ears, I dont do the figure 8 thing because it all gets unstuck and makes the tape come loose. Im thinking maybe I should try the cup on the head? Or the tampon?

Anyway, here's the boy and his family.

That's one good looking little boy!

Yeah, you only need the figure-e brace at first to keep the ears from falling down. He doesn't even look like he needs any more taping though. If you're worried about them standing funny, don't worry too much. They always stand a little funny until they mature and get used to them. He's teething too, that can make them fall sometimes too. The important thing is that the cartilage is stiff and allowing the ears to be stood upright when he wants them too. His goofy ears should mature right along with that big goofy nose.  ;)

Thanks!!

It makes me feel alot better to know that his ears should look more normal as he grows, that one that tilts in drives me crazy. I actually tried the cup on the head and when I took it off a day later he had 2 creases at the base of each ear! I about had a heart attack and promptly ran in the house grabbed the nearest tampons and taped him up good, lol.

How long do you normally go with a taping before you remove and replace it? His ears seem to get irritated and raw at some spots only after a day or two.

ps- My Husky is so irritated with him, it was a miracle she sat next to him for the picture. She's had it with his habit of plucking her fur pants out.. hahah

Creases are bad. But folds are what you need to avoid. From the picture I'd say you're in good shape even if you stopped taping. He'll need some tape free time, once you feel comfortable stopping, to learn how to use them. Remember he's never had normal ears.

Never leave the tape on for more than five days. If he starts getting irritated skin take them off right away, clean them good, and let them dry and rest for part of a day. Irritated ears are the last thing you want.

I think your Husky must have a lot of patience. She deals with two puppies.  ;) I think eventually he'll earn a correction from her - that's what Drayko did with our old Golden Retriever. He kept giving her a hard time, pulling out hair, roughing her up, till she gave a little Mommy-Dog spanken - bit his little butt. Little Doberman boys...

I took off the tape and tampons and WOW the creases were gone, they were standing up straight, no leaning and looked awesome! It was only 2 days but I got nervous that they were getting irritated underneath. They looked fine so I retaped them. (Plus one ear started to look "weak") How long do you think I should continue with the taping.. I mean how do you know that they are "done"? It seems like they stand up for awhile and then start to droop, lol.

Sometimes it can be hard to know when taping is finished. They won't always stand all the time. When relaxed or just goofing around they may lay back or flop to the side. This is OK as long as they still stand erect when he is alert. If they flop to the side Yoda style but stand good when he is alert you can do hand massage to get them to lay back when relaxed. This is done by simply holding each ear between your thumb and index finger"top and bottom" and massaging them back into the lay back position. This can be done as many times in a day you can stand it. Some people like this streamline look but it also shows off the designed crop when they stand their ears from this position. From your pics, it looks like this may be the case.
