We survived the crop, the stitches, the healing. We survived the stich removal. We went back for the taping and the vet uses glue and foam. She cut a leaf shaped foam piece and glued it to the inside of his ears, tucking the bottom down into his ear canal. She said it will come off when its ready and you dont have to worry about taping.

WELL. All was fine and dandy for almost a week until last night I noticed Mason shaking his head and spraying this stinky wet stuff. The vet kinda gave me the big OH WELL on the phone and said I could come in for an apt. but Id have to wait my turn. Basically being sarcastic and rude.

I went to our old vet who knows nothing about cropping and he took a look. Turns out all the fluid was soaking into the foam and he had an ear infection on that side. the foam was not stuck at all in the canal so he carefully removed it only taking a few hair with it. We have some antibiotic ointment to put in there and other than that the other ear is still foam glued and the infection one isnt.

Im kinda of ticked off about this. Can someone please tell me if I should just try to tape it myself or continue with this foam thing once his ear heals? Is it too late for us? His ears kinda relax out to the side but dont fold or anything. Do they harden up where they are attached to the head?

His ears sort look like "yoda" ears but Im hoping if I get them taped right and stick to it, it will work out. He's a little over 12 weeks now. Thanks you guys, I feel like a clueless jerk.

The Yoda look is good. I would keep up with the antibiotic ointment for a couple days without wrappings 'until it's not so irritating to the puppy. I'd  get to posting it up again soon though. I always like to change the wrappings at least every five day. For the infected ear you might want to try tapping it every day for part of the day, and letting it air the other part of the day.

It's odd he got an infection so quick. Did they clean the ear well before posting?

You cold also find a creative way to tape things up without covering the infected area. The main thing is keeping the ear upright and keeping it from folding.

They did clean the ear well before gluing the foam in place.. I dont know what happened but it was gross, poor guy. Heres an update:

His ear infection is much better. I have been posting his ears just the this website says only I do one thing different. I put a piece of foam between the ears to keep them separated. I noticed they tended to criss cross each other. They are standing up well and look so adorable I think! I just cant wait til the hair grows back and the weird bumps on his head go away.
