Bane is 19 months old now and already an accomplished helper canine. He's about 80 lbs, and from very good health oriented stock. My teaching style is somewhat unique in that I first teach the basic skills and then name the objects/places. I then test his skills by having him put together a series of those learned basics and ask him to do rather complicated tasks. Some of those have been just mentioning how I needed a pen. He went into the other room, took the one off the end table, and brought it back to me. I hadn't even asked for his help. He also has retrieved my laundry bag from my upstairs bedroom, a bundle of paper towels from my truck, and after making my backyard look like it had snowed by tearing open a bag of recycled bags, he brought over half of them back to me to rebag. These three things had never been shown to him step-by-step.
If you would like to see some of his vids, go to Youtube.com/Todax69. Excuse my poor vid quality and lack of pants in v4. Most of these were taken after teaching and before the training for proficiency had started. And if there is a way to post his pic, someone will have to school me on that.

Bane is beautiful.  I'm impressed with his abilities.

I love how he still has puppy tendencies in his shaking of your shoe before giving it to you.  That made me smile.

Thanks for sharing.

His is in the process of leaving puppydom right now. I do allow him to play a little just to keep things fun for him. The shoes however I have taught him to shake for a reason. We've had a bad outbreak of Stink bugs over the last two years, so by shaking them he tends to get rid of any hitchhikers. The rest of the things he doesn't hand me right away is more his teasing of me, which I consider more interaction instead of disobedience. I also watch carefully for games he makes up. They're subtle, but since he invents them himself I really cherish them. For instance, when batting balls to him in the house, he came up with this trick where he'll coyly place a ball behind me. When I turn to get it, he quickly swipes two balls from the pile in front of me and retreats to his post on the futon to await my next hit to him. Theivery yes, but oh so intelligent.

Hello Todax!

Checked out your vids. Awesome job man!

Can you go a little more into details as how you train him?

I have a blue dobbie. I posted a forum in this under Meet Ahzu if you want to check him out. Anyways would love to get some advice from you.

Thanks

Hey DKlock, just saw the post. Glad to help anyone if I can. Haven't gone to see your boy yet, but I will as soon as I leave here. So why did you name him after a sneeze? lol. Let me know what I can help you with and I'll talk you through it. As long as it isn't about breeding, I'm bashful.
