Found this site and I am new to it. I have an 8 month old red dobe and he is an absolute joy.
He really keeps me on my toes and is non-stop entertainment for the whole family.
I look forward to participating here and wish everyone a great weekend.

Take care

Welcome to the Dobie forum, i have found it to be very informational and helpful.  The people on here will help you with their advice on Dobermans.  I am glad to be a part of it now, the site helps me through the rough times with my puppy. I have a 7 month old male and his name is Snoopy.  It is just great to have the greatest breed of dog as a companion.  anyways welcome to the site.

Just a little more info on my pup. I never mentioned his name but it is Sabbath.
Last week he got castrated :( but has recovered nicely and is back to his usual obnoxious self again.
The vet was really impressed with the fact that at 8 mo. old he already weighs 89 lbs.
I really should have named him Marmaduke because that's pretty much the way he is.
He loves everyone, especially children. But I have noticed that he is becoming more protective
of me toward strangers. Anyway, enough babbling...I will post some current pics when I get a chance.

Jabberjaw - welcome to the forums. I have two reds, a 6 year old male (named Red) who has just recently been neutered, and a 9 month old female named Princess (the reason Red was neutered). She really has kept him on his toes.

Keep an eye on his weight. Red got up to 147 pounds and the vet was chewing me out for over feeding him and I told him he was only getting 3-4 cups a day. We sent off a blood sample and it confirmed a thyroid condition. He is on thyroid pills and still on restricted diet, he is now down to between 100 and 110. We will find out Friday when he goes to the vet for routine checkup.

Sabbath had a full blood workup about a month ago. He started having "Idiopathic Head Tremors".
My vet, fortunately, new about this type of condition that shows up in Dobes, Boxers and Bulldogs.
He did the blood tests to check for thyroid and hypoglycemia. He rarely gets the tremors and all I need
to do is rub his head and get some licks to the face from him and they're gone. His father was 115 lbs.
and is From Germany. I wasn't really looking for the Euro Dobe and I confess I was ignorant when purchasing
my little boy. I wouldn't necessarily call him a BYB but he doesn't show his dogs. He does, however. have a lot
of love for the breed and was concerned about the tremors. He offered to take the dog back and refund my money
and I said absolutely not. He is already a part of the family.

I would post a pic but I cannot access any photobucket or website pictures from work because they are blocked.
I will try from home when I get the chance.
