LOVE IT!!

If Eli had his way we'd have a Jeep just like that. As it is he has 3 vehicles, only 1 functional (his truck) the other two are an old saleen mustang and a GTO. Don't ask me years. I like to drive the mustang, reallyREALLY fast... and my dad ratted me out to Eli once that I did a burn out leaving his shop. 0;D I haven't been allowed to drive it since!

I also like to be completely ridiculous and host birthday parties for my dogs. (Okay, in my defense, it was a JOKE to have this but my mom brought the cake, and everyone brought the furry child gifts!) Miles turns 7 this April and I will be throwing another bash. Anyone wanna come? ;) Its the biggest turn out party to date that Eli and I have thrown.

Hey you guys.. as you know I am a writer.. I attend a workshop each Wednesday and I wrote this piece for review from some of the members..It's true.. I promise you each and every word of it!!

Chivalry is not dead: Sometimes it just gets stuck in the mud

Katie O'Brian-Robles

On a lovely Tuesday afternoon, with nothing much to do, Mike beams into the house, a welcomed interruption to the mundane chore of laundry.

“Honey, you know that road we always walk down? The one that leads to the arroyo a mile or so away? The rains have brought the most beautiful wildflowers. Let’s get in the truck and go find them. It’ll be fun and we can pick some of those pretty purple blossoms you like. "

“Baby, it's awfully muddy, do you think it's really a good idea?"

“Sure, where's your sense of adventure?"

Well no one has ever accused me of a lack of adventure and the choice of folding the towels or running off with my guy… Well, no contest.

So I packed up for a road trip including a bottle of wine, some nice glasses, a picnic basket full of munchies and a vase in which to put the blossoms. I’m thinking this just might be a good idea.

The day was sunny and bright and having a four wheel drive, we thought nothing of the mud we encountered. Wild flowers blanketed the otherwise dry and grizzled Baja and it truly was a glorious sight.
Halfway down the road, we heard the oh too familiar sound of tires spinning in a fruitless forward motion. We were stuck.

“WRRRR” go the wheels, “FFFFLLLLNG” goes the mud. We are half a foot deep in the nasty stuff.
Mike gets out of the truck and starts poking around the fields looking for broken tiles, old wood, anything that he can use to place under the goopy tires for traction.

I opened the wine.

"Oh I have an idea” (not a good one) “go get me some of those prawns"

"Prawns?? What do you want with shrimp and how are they going to get us out of this mud? (which is now half way up the wheels)

" No no no.. the prawns off the trees. The palm prawns!" (The man has a Master's degree in Education.)

Okay by now I've got the story half written in my mind and start giggling and hauling palm fronds over to the quickly sinking truck.

“This is not a good idea; I think we might need a shovel and some help"

So off he goes, my knight in muddy t-shirt, in the direction of guard shack.

I keep looking for prawns.

Twenty minutes later he’s back with the shovel, some ply-wood and Jessie. Jessie is one of the security guards here on property, drives a golf cart and carries a great big walkie talkie. He's also as useless as tits on a boar. But I digress. He sits on his cart and says:”tsk tsk tsk, you’re not supposed to be here and it’s really not a good idea”

We ignore him.

“Okay honey, when I say go, step on the accelerator and I’ll give it a great big push and we’ll be out of this mess in no time.”

I drink more wine.

I think Mike is enjoying it all and I'm at the wheel kinda loving the FFFFFLING sound. This IS an adventure.

With a loud “oooff” and a little more WRRRR we finally manage to extricate the truck from the quagmire of goop. I barely recognize my husband who is now wiping handfuls of mud and branches, not to mention some prawns from his face, but has a small bouquet of purple daisies in his hand. I'm in a helpless heap from laughing, Jessie is whispering something into his walkie talkie and ushers us back to the main road.

We finish the bottle of wine.

Oooo, I missed out on this thread with all the weekend Mardi Gras festivities...

I go to college, majoring in education. I want to be certifided to teach Pre-k to 3rd grade. I also work at a kindergarten. What can I say, I love babies...

When I'm not at school or work or spending time with my pup, I enjoy cooking. Louisiana does have some of the best food in the world... I like softball, even though I haven't played in quite some time. And I LOVE the river. My Spring, Summer, and Fall is spent on the Tangipahoa River and Lake Ponchatrain. It is my favorite place in the world. And I'm a big Tigers fan! I'm tailgating at every home game, and I try to make at least one away game a season. And I can't forget 4-wheelers/ATVs and camping!

Love the ATVs Jensen! I always wanted one...though I think an Argo may be more my style!! Hey a girl can dream, can't I? What do you do on the river? Any boating?

Mandy, that's awesome Josh used to rockcrawl - I used to subscribe to 4x4 Offroad and loved all those pictures but I don't think I'd have the balls to do it myself! I'll stick to mud and snow thanks! We don't have the Jeep anymore, we parted it out a couple summers ago...I think one axel is all that's left :( Every once in a while I catch Ray looking at lift kits and such online for his Dodge ram...poor guy needs a new toy!

THERE ARE OTHER THINGS BESIDES MY DOBERMAN?

Lol I wish it were like that for me. Just me and my doberman.

Well, for me, my first passion is singing and Choir, the second being Zelda. I LOVE to draw http://choopie.deviantart.com/ this is the site that I post most of my art on, but i haven't updated any art, just photos of zelda LOL. I like to sleep in my spare time between Zelda, Singing and drawing and reading. Currently, i'm reading Draw the Dark by Ilsa J. Bick and it's quite interesting right now if you like historic, mystery thrillers! Friends are also very fun. Both dog and human, though I sometimes wish I were around dogs all the time XD

I would love to learn how to paint properly and traditionally. Painting digitally is kind of odd when I don't know how to traditionally paint XD

I also love taxidermy; i own two rabbit pelts, one marble fox tail, a Zebra pelt that hangs on the living room wall that's older than i am, and a mounted Texas bobcat in the storage of our house lol.

Anyway, time to sleep rofl. ♥

Well, here is something new. Please don't get me wrong. I am not a gambler, but I have a passion for online poker-----PLAY CHIPS only. I thought I would check it out when years ago I saw the Bravo show-Celebrity Poker. I learned Texas Holdem. So, I found a free site and dabbled. I quickly became friends with some people. Pretty soon, we all saw each other every nite, playing poker and chit chatting. That was at least 6 years ago. Now we are all very good friends, sending holiday, birthday cards etc. to each other. We call each other on the phone quite often, and are totally there for each other in good times and bad. I play Blackjack on the rare occasion that hubby and I go to a real casino, and do pretty well. But I LOVE to play Omaha online. If you're lucky to get on a table that people are playing right, it's a real thinking game.

Before I moved down to this part of California, I used to ride Arabian horses in Sonoma and Marin County (every Sunday through the redwoods and on the coast) and was an avid line dancer. There's a great dance club in Petaluma if you ever get up that way Jes. Sometimes I get really homesick but alas.....

Now I seem to be addicted to this site, and of course my dogs!

So my other stuff is riding harleys w/ josh and we are avid boaters - we have a beautiful river (actually 3) here and we have some huge tie-ups and drink and eat and dance and enjoy our wonderful river all summer...

this tie-up had about 30+ boats by the end of the day

this is our touring bike, don't have pix on this computer of josh's bobber that he did

Mandy.. LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures of the tie up! We used to do that when we still had our boat, which we sold... to buy the house..., to flip...., to buy another one... to give 'You Know Who' a bigger yard.

We used to call it our Red Neck Yacht Club. I can still smell the Copper tone SPF 30 and hear those tops popping off the cold ones!!

Some truly memorable times...

It is such an awesome time- My dad has a 32' cruiser and tons of my friends have boats- My dad is upgrading this year and I hope to get out alot more than I did last year- I also told him the dogs are coming lol- Can you picture the kid in a life vest?!?!?!?

Wendy I love dancing! But for some reason, I can never get my feet to work when line dancing. My friends and I go to Fremont where they have a big warehouse / country bar with traditional line dancing and a mechanical bull. I always end up tripping over my own feet, I swear. But I was a belly dancer for about 4 years (got pretty good, too!) but you can't include your dog doing that so I switched to running.

Mandy love the boating pictures, we do that out here at a lake and people line up underneath a bridge for shade. We have a boat but Eli and his brother tinkered with something and broke it. They're great with cars but always seem to find an excuse not to fix the boat.

We also love to camp - however, for the last two years it seems our summers have been full of weddings (3 of Eli's 6 siblings got married all in a row) and then we bought our house last July. I'm hoping to get out to the woods this summer.

My name is Karissa and I'm 20 years old. I was born in Kalispell, MT. Moved to Helena, MT when I was 5. I currently work full time at Albertsons as a cashier. I really want a career that involves animals. I'm kind of embarrassed that I graduated in 2009 and I still don't know what I want to do? lol. I've taken some courses shortly after I graduated so I could become a dog groomer. I did work at Petco for like 8 months as a dog groomer assistent. I really enjoyed it till Petco got new management, and then everything crashed down.

Interesting discussion, it is always fun to learn more about people.

Kate - can you post URL for the web cast you have, it will be fun to check it out. You have a God given talent to write.

My first bike was Harley Davidson Sportster some 15 years ago for a few years, and last 5 years I rode Yamaha Vino, a little 125 cc scooter, super fun. Last July I got hit by a car that ran a red light, it hit me straight in the left side under my seat. I flew and landed in the center of busy intersection, came back to consciousness and prayed my socks off to God not to have anything broken. My arm looked broken. Long story short, after all scans were done, nothing was broken, not even a fingernail (I had no gloves on). My left knee was punctured and had to be operated to get it cleaned out. I thank God for saving me from death and healing me on the spot, because I know what I saw while laying there.

My Iron Pony last summer before I got hit.

No more motorcycles for me, since I do not want to have my kids go through this again. My daughter was petrified, and past out in emergency room when she saw me.

Me and kids a week after accident.

My interests include outdoors, I like hiking. I love spending timewith my kids. I love baking bread, and not just bread, but healthy bread that is made from home milled grains. Yes, I mill my own flour when I bake bread.

Me and kids hiking October 2010

I love my church, love to worship God, reading Bible. I love gardening, used to have 30 bush rose garden, love to travel.

Blade stopping to smell roses for half a second. To be honest, I had to bribe him to get in the spot close to bloom with the peace of lettuce haha

For living I work on websites and also create marketing materials. Right now I am finishing up my BA and got no time to do all I want to do, but it should be completed by next summer, and I will have more time for fun stuff again.

Originally I am from Eastern Europe, Latvia, and have been in Alabama for almost 20 years and love it here. I would like to retire and have a Bed and Breakfast somwhere on/by beach where is warm :).

I have 2 kitties, this is Viola. Other one is shorthair completely white, called Rosey. Blade thinks they are puppies and wants to play. We found and adopted Rosey while we were looking for dog.

Sorry I missed this the past month that I was gone. And I missed your question Sweetpea. Sorry if I get carried away with what we do on the water, but it's my favorite place on Earth. It's something I'm passionate about.

I live in an area with almost as much water as we have land. And when it rains enough, it's more water than land. We have Tangipahoa River (Tang-pa-hoe), Tchefuncta River (Cha-funk-cha), Blind River, Tickfaw River, Lake Ponchatrain, and Lake Maurepas, just to name the main waterways in my area, but there's so many more. We do everything on the water. We fish. We crab. We shrimp. We swim in muddy water where you can't see the bottom. We have "Redneck yatch clubs," we have real yatch clubs. We have bars you can only get to by boat, we have bars you can get to by car or boat. We jet ski, tube, ski, and wakeboard. We have camps where the summers are spent with the best friends and strangers in the world. We party all day long and usually all night long too. We wave at every passing yatch, ciggarette boat, skiff, jet ski, flat boat or pirogue. No one is a stranger, and everyone is a friend. We watch the sun rise and set again the Spanish moss covered Cypress trees and swamp. When we're feeling kind of crazy and a little bit brave you might even catch us wrestling a gator. The water is our lifeline. We have muddy water pumping through our veins. Which is something people didn't understand when the oil spill struck. It ruined people's way of income and their way of life. It is my favorite place in the world.

No worries! We northerners LOVE our snow...at least this one does!! :D There is nothing in the world like carving up a hill full of fresh powder on a board with the sun shining and the wind on your face, or flying over drifts at top speed on a snowmobile. You do make the water sound fantastic though, I can tell how much you love it.

ntd - what an incredible story! You are so lucky to have come out of that crash unharmed. Love that shot of Blade stopping to sniff the roses...that's something I should do more often lol.

I'm from Connecticut in the same house since I was 3. Served in the Coast Guard in the 80's. I was stationed on the east coast, North Carolina nad North. Lived in Hollywood, CA, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Long Beach, MS. Love dogs, riding my Harley, 4 wheelin, fishing on Long Island Sound or goin furthur out to the ocean.I am doing a ton of work on my house in order to sell it in order to relocate to sw, fl. I have no kids and single. So my dogs have all my attention. I drive a big truck so I have been all across the country, Been doing that since I left the Coast Guard. After I move I am thinking of selling my truck or just work part time and starting a buisness involving dogs in one way or another. Since losing Caine to cancer I've decided to take a turn in my life. I am thinking about an indoor agility training facility. Training your own, and having a trainer on call and having classes, as well as other activities, play time, dog sitting, etc. I have tons of ideas. I always knew cancer was there but never thought Caine would get it or any dogs that I have had. I never say owned they own me. But since losing Caine I vowed to make a difference, so I thought my having a dog related buisness I would have a niche for fund raising for the disease. I know it's very expensive and no income from it but I was thinking of adding a Dobe rescue. There are too many Dobes that need our help.

So right now all my time is going into this house so I can get out of here. I want to be putting christmas lights on a palm tree next year. I hate the snow, even as a kid I hated it.

Oh by the way Caine hated that bike.

Mine was built from scratch, it was titles as a 2000, I built it in '99. If you look closley you can tell it's no evo but a shovelhead. The only thing I didn't build was the motor. My next toy will be a quad after I move tho. I'm gonna want to put a doggie seat on it.
