What else besides dogs?

So what else is everybody into besides their dobes?  Figure this may be a good way to get to know each other a lil better.  Since we got Dakota, near 100% of my "free" (i use that lightly) time has been devoted to her.  But I enjoy fishing, going out on the lake, working on cars, (or fixing cars, as in my case lol) and just being outside in general.  Growing up in Northern New Jersey, I have always been around lots of people, small yards, houses close, everyone walking around.  Steph and I bought a house in Northwest NJ almost 2 years ago, it's so relaxing here.  Once you get a little west, it's like a whole new state.  Most people don't realize that there's plenty of jersey outside of Newark and the big cities, and it's beautiful here.  Where I live is like being on vacation, I would consider it similar to lake george without all the cool shops.  So it's a great change of pace, so relaxing.

So what about everyone else?

Trying to close on a new ( I use that word loosely) house.. It's in good shape as far as structure is concerned, but we want to do a complete renovation. The former governor of Baja lived in this hacienda style home at one time.. and we think it would be great to restore it to it's original 'glory'.

That means tearing out 3,000 sf of flooring, replacing with saltillo and talavera tiles. Sand blasting the overly textured walls, replastering, painting, refinishing all the cupboards, drawers and any other thing wooden. Creating a yard for Sofia as most of the back is stone and low walls. And then the landscaping.. holy moly.. the place has been vacant for three years... swallows have made their homes there in every nook and cranny.. and hacienda style is full of nooks, crannies, nichos and hidey holes...weeds have overtaken any semblence of lawn.. it's a mess!!! The poor old gal really needs a major face lift.. But it's what Mike and I love to do.. Just finished renovating the townhouse we now live in..

Other than that...phew!!

I do a lot of writing... magazine articles, news paper columns.. and have pounded out 16 chapters of a chic-lit romance novel. It's a full on estrogen fest.

Mike teaches Television Production and Video at one of the local universities and coaches American football.

We've started an internet television program about the happenings in Ensenada..It's mostly student based... have found some amazing talent here in Baja!! The shoots are fun and we get to see some really interesting venues and share all the good stuff to help promote tourism.

We both serve on the Board of Directors for the Baja Scholarship Foundation and in fact our big fund raiser for the year is this Saturday at the Bajamar Golf Course where we live. Golf tournament, dinner, silent auction. We will be filming on several holes and providing the golfers with their personal video.

It's been a long time since I took a nap!

a nap, they still do that!!  lol

I hear you on the yard stuff, we bought our house from an older woman who had been retired for some time, which basically meant TONS of work to get things in order.  What a long, crazy process lol.

Well...Where to begin. I like alot of different things. I guess when I am not on here, work, or trying to relax from working so much here lately. I can be found laying around the house with my dog attached to my hip. I love the outdoors when I am not so tired from work(I work in a Nursing Home on 12 hour shifts, sometimes 4-5 days a week. Seeing they are short handed ATM). I like to work on cars, fourwheeling. camping, fishing, and just spending time with my family in general. I love to read also when I can find time for it. I live in a small town in Southeastern Kentucky. It's really beautiful here, the mountains are a treat to look at especially in the fall and summer months. The hubby still wants to move to TN and we have talked about it on several occasions just havent' done it yet.

We spend most of our weekends either riding Motocross or racing the sport bikes at the street track.  We both instruct for a track school on the sport bikes but since that's only about one day a month the other weekends we pack up the dog and head to the MX track to play in the dirt.  Rocky guards the truck while we are out riding and by guard I mean he hangs out making friends with anyone that will come pet him..:)  He actually gets upset if someone walks by and doesn't pet him and will bark at them as they walk away...goof

So most weekends are outdoors on the bikes or at Tye's parents 100+ acre farm.  During the week, it's mainly boring - walk the dog, go to work, the gym, walk the dog again, play with Rocky and sleep / repeat...haha

I used to read alot but just don't find the time much anymore,  I spend time on a few sportbike forums and play on Facebook when I have time.  Several friends have dogs too so if we arent riding we are usually over at a friends or they are at our house with the dogs running around.

Kevin~ what a wonderful picture of the Dane and the Darling!! He ( she?) look like he (she?) really loves Dakota.. But of course.. who doesn't!?

Lori.. you said you go to the MX track.. Donde esta?

Sofia is the same way, if someone walks past the yard and does not pay the require homage ... she gets in a snit and will whine at them. It's really kind of funny as she expects everyone to adore her!!

Divas! Can't live with them.. wouldn't want to live without them!

ladykate,  MX = motocross  cycleranchmx.com/cycleranch_gallery.html   - that should give you some good pics of what we do all weekend. That's the track we spend the most time at.   I don't look quite as good as the guys in that pic though haha if I did I'd be racing more...

This pic is older and off just a small jump but it's of me..:)

We also spend time at the the street track on the sport bikes.  This is me in the pic..not sure which I love more Street or dirt riding...and luckily my boyfriends loves both just as much.

I live just south of Austin, TX and that track is about an hour away from me.  I've been riding sport bikes since I was 17 so,  well lets just say a lot of years ago..haha about 19 really.  Dirt biknig I just got into this year.  I picked up the YZ250F that I'm riding in that pick in Jan. I LOVE jumping and slidding around.  I repeatedly learn the hard way that cornering in dirt is the exact opposite of cornering on the street..haha  Got a few good crashes under my belt and off I go again.  That is actually a very small hill on the track.  You can kind of see one of the bigger jumps behind me in the background.  The really fast guys will clear that jump land on the downhill side.  I land about 1/2 way over at this point...

ladykate I see you mention re-flooring your new house..I may be asking you for some tips soon.  We had cheap linoleum that was starting to peel up in a few spots.  Well Rocky found them soon enough and needless to say there is just base concrete now.  We are looking to tile it but I haven't gotten very far with that yet.  I need to do some research and see if it's worth doing myself or just paying someone.

Yikes.. I looked again at the jumps, and my tummy just did a double gainer, I don't think I could ever be brave enough to try that.. It was an act of faith to get on the tea cups at Disneyland..

Just ASK me anything about renovation, remodeling and reconstruction.. It's what we love to do the most!! Just finished remodling our townhouse and bought a huge hacienda style fixer -upper.. the place needs total gutting and restoration. can't wait to get started...

Austin!! One of my favorite cities! We have a daughter who lives there. Don't absolutley adore your humidity though.. Gotta pick the right time of year to enjoy all the treasures it has to offer!!

Feel free to PM me any time.. I have pictures to show you of the most incredible flooring you could ever imagine. Labor is relatively inexpensive here and the craftsmen are all artisans.. They take incredible pride in what they do, and their tile work is a true piece of art!

Thanks LadyKate I will def take you up on that...we haven't started yet, it sounded like a good 'Winter' project to me.  Even though we don't have much of a winter in TX.   I need to first finish removing all the sticking glue and even some of the backing to the linoleum that didn't come up completely I'm told first..

Friend of mine mentioned a tool much likea shovel but it has sort of a razor blade type scraper end to get that off.  Then he said a solvent to truely clean it all up before you score it.

I stopped him at that point because it will be a month or two before we tackle it but it's good to know it's not gonig to be a weekend project, I'm thinking more like a month of weekends..haha

I grew up in the coalfields of VA, about an hour from Dobiegirl.  Moved to NW NC to attend Appalachian State (yep, the school that beat Michigan in football in 2007) and stayed.

Before losing most of my vision I played every sport coming and going, baseball, basketball, football.  I loved cycling, especially touring by bicycle.  Karen and I now have a tandem that we ride...took a 400 mile trip across NC to the beach a couple of years ago.

I've been a ham radio operator for 18 years, call sign WK4P, and since I can't play sports anymore I have gotten into radio contesting to feed my competitive bug.  We have a radio contesting club, Appalachian Contesters W4APP, and our favorite VHF contest spot is Whitetop Mountain, Va, at 5520 ft it's the 2nd highest peak and the highest road in Va.  Beautiful spot to play radio from.

We combine radio contesting with time in our old 1993 camper, taking it to various spots and using it as a base for our radio activities.  Freyja and I spent over a month in the camper this year.  The camper has bunk beds from when our children were young and now Freyja has taken over the bottom bunk.

Let me know his call sign and I'll check my log and see if I've worked him.  If he's active in radio, especially contests, I probably have.  I'm hoping to make contact with over 1200 different stations in this weekend's contest.  Give him my call, WK4P, and tell him to look me up on QRZ.  Freyja is my pic on QRZ.

I've lived in Indiana all my life, but have traveled to the East Coast many times.  I hope to retire and move to South Carolina in the next few years.  I've worked at my current job for 30 years, so I am more than ready to retire.  I do the GIS mapping for my county. (geographical Information System) and work for the County Auditor and Assessor.  I keep track of every inch of property in this county, who owns it, who sells it, who buys it, and keep the maps current for new subdivisions and new roads.  Needless to say, I love my job.  The only thing that would make it better is if I could take Ziva to work with me every day.  :)   My wife and I used to be foster parents for multiple-handicapped kids.  We did that for a dozen or more years. (We sort of got those kids that nobody else wanted, and they were a total joy to have.) During that era of my life, we lived on a 6-acre mini-farm and had lots of horses, chickens, ducks, rabbits, ferrets, and of course, Doberman Pinschers.  We had 4 at the same time back then.  Since those days, I just can't get by without a dobie in my life.

Oh, and my name is Paul.

I wish I had seen this thread earlier!  It's so cool to read what you all do and are interested in.

My name's Janelle, I'm from Ontario (Canada not California!!)  and so far looks like I'm the only canuck on here!?  I'm currently in college taking interior design, which I love, but before that I did landscaping for about 5 years.  My wonderful husband Ray is a plumber, and we've been together almost 5 years.  I grew up in a REALLY small town (40 people), and am totally head over heels for the country life - definitely not a city girl!  I love to be outside, swimming, running, hiking, fishing, camping, what have you.  I took up hunting about a year ago and am proud to say I shot my first deer this fall and now I'm hooked!  I guess you could say I'm somewhat of a tomboy.  I also LOVE winter - soon to be upon us!  For those of you from the south, if you've never seen a good snowstorm you have no idea what you're missing!  Of course winter is no fun unless you have a winter hobby - mine are snowboarding and snowmobiling, and of course, hockey! (well watching it anyway...i'm a terrible skater but an excellent fan!  Go leafs Go!)

Oh and I also love to cook (and eat)!  I'm no rachael rae or anything but I like trying new things, especially if it's a good steak marinade!

*Lady Kate - I think it's awesome that you and your husband are into restoring historic homes!  I would love to see some pictures of the renovation process - that's right up my alley!

Lori~ Where in PA?

I live 30 Miles south of Pittsburgh.  I love to read and to cook! My hubby is an avid Harley guy. So we take many trips to bike rallies. Love dogs and always wanted to open a doggy day care. My father insisted that was a terrible idea and  I let that dream go. Now there are 2 very successful ones with in 30 minutes of me... So I may go 30 minutes the other way and try and do it here soon. I went to school for Graphic Design - but it was way tooo competitive when i graduated and I work for my father now in our family business (coal mine and landfill supply to be short about it)

And here I am at 23. Living the good life. :)

My name is Corinna and I am 24.

We just moved to southeast michigan and don't really have any friends yet so as far has doing a whole bunch of stuff yeah that doesn't happen. Not to mention the fact that my husband works almost opposite schedule as I do, my schedule is all jacked up I work late nights, swing shifts and early mornings all in the same week. Come summer we will be pulling the motorcycles out of the garage. That is pretty much all we do during th nice weather, well other than take care of our girl! I just went and took the cover off of my bike to make sure she was ok...just in case you were wondering she said she is just cold and lonely...I told her it's almost time :)

Living in Michigan kinda kills outs door life in the winter bc is so dang cold and the days are so short you don't have enough daylight to do anything. Definitely getting spring fever over here.

So pretty much out life consists of working hard, taking care of our girl and riding bikes....yea yea were boring I know!

A new topic!

Lori I ride motocross too - it was what brought Eli and I together though with school and the new house our bikes are gathering dust in the garage.

I'm 26 - hah! Worked at a vet as my first career. I put myself through college and will graduate this Fall with a Biochemistry BS. I currently am working on a research project for the SF FDA and enjoy analytical chemistry.

I read, write, paint and run when I'm not working with my dogs. I live in Bay Area, CA! So I get great weather most of the year.

Eli and I have been together going on three years in June and will be heading down the marriage and kid path once I graduate.

So, that's me!

Good afternoon everyone.  Have really enjoyed reading what everyone does. I feel like such a slug.  We, husband Dave, dobies Tony and Tory, 2 Siamese cats Mocha(seal point)and Spike (blue point...my inheretance from my parents) and a "just plain gray" cat Earl.   live in upstate NY  Look at a map we are in the heart of the "fingerlakes region" between Syracuse (go SU) and Rochester.  We live on about 100 acres out side of a very small town.  The house sits back in the woods behind a 7 acre pond with a 1/4 mile driveway.  Tony and Tory are never chained.  I work full time running a kitchen and bath show room.  Dave is a retired carpenter, right now he is building his third mahogany boat.In our spare time we love to take the dogs and travel around the area.  Biggest problem, we haven't figured out how to take the dogs and a boat at the same time.  I love to cook, garden, and roam the woods with the dogs.  Mostly roam the woods with the dogs.  I also love to  read and we are bothe into antiques.  Dave is into trains, we have made a few trips to Pa. and have been to Bird In Hand, cute town, nice area.

I have 2 sons, one near by and one in NYC.  The one in NYC just gave me my first grand baby, a little girl named Maddy.

ooh, right now Tony and I are watching a possum outside our back door.  we have lots of wildlife around. Yesterday it was 5 deer and about a dozen turkeys.  you never know what will be eating outside our back door.

and yes Kate, I would love to read your novel.

and thanks Kevin for starting this it is very interesting

Maybe this thread will cheer me up.  I can talk about something else....

Let me see I am a working artist, from my home. I use acrylics and do special order canvases, teach art classes, paint drums (real drums like Celtic drums and Native American style); I write humorous stories for friends and family; embroidery; make cards; read; love PC games; work puzzle books; read tarot professionally at a metaphysical store here, I will read at home but prefer not to have strangers come to my house (and no I am not the reader with the sign "readings $5" hahahahah); I love to redesign and plan home remodeling projects with graph paper/ruler/pencil; consult on accounting issues; consult on organizing offices for efficiency.

When I am not doing those things my husband and I have a collection of muscle cars by Dodge and Plymouth and we go to car shows all summer long and hang out. We have 4 currently but have had as many as 23 at one time.  Cars were our thing. We love to get the convertibles out on a beautiful day or night and just drive. The dogs love it too. Balmy starry nights are best..

wow I'm busy......

I actually redesigned my old 1954 kitchen the drawer fronts had fallen off and the floor was torn up, oh it was terrible, and now I have a drop dead gorgeous contemporary kitchen that the cats love cause I had a 21" deep by 60" wide bay window put in at the sink so they can enjoy lounging on a cool slab of granite while the sun shines in as I work in the kitchen. I drew a huge southern style front porch out on graph paper and my husband built it and when the original owner of the house's son came by one day he was amazed and said it looked so right for the house he could not remember what it looked like without it and he lived here for over 16 years, that was a great compliment. So of course with that kind of encouragement I can't stop running through pads of graph paper drawing new designs for the only room left - the dreaded bathroom remodel - but it is fun to draw the options out. The neighbors have gotten tired of asking us what we are doing this time...there is always something.

At halloween we have a huge display in the yard that the kids have to walk through where we terrorize them. We have fog machines, huge props, a killer cemetery, sound equipment and as many as 15 actors it really is a wild night. The kids always come around about June and ask if we are going to do the Haunted House, I start working on it in August. We do have a good time. One time we had a skeleton drop from the ceiling, we've been in the paper several times cause ours is free. We are in NC and one person actually drives from Tennessee, one from Georgia and others from counties hours away. A testament to our spooky ability and art of creepiness.....whoooooohaaaaaaaahaaaaaa

I guess I will go see what other threads are going I am trying to get my mind off kee kee dee this is helping....
