So I know religion is not a good topic of conversation, but I found it interesting as I was browsing through a website this morning and found the title "judgment day, May 21, 2011." I thought to myself well that's this weekend what's this all about.  Apparently this man named Harold calls himself a prophet who believes the world will end this Saturday and those who aren't saved will remain on Earth in a hell-like state until October.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but what really gets under my skin is somehow money seems to be always involved.  A man who follows this group gave up his job and his family in order to help promote the day by driving across country with advertising vans.  He claims he spent his entire life savings on helping this group spread their word.  I can't help but be upest by the fact it seems he is being used.  Overall, it just annoys me to see individuals manipulate others to get what they deem necessary.

Sorry, if this is so off topic, but I was a little bored and there is always interesting news out there

I'm a God-fearing, Bible-believing person myself, and there is definitely a scripture in the Word that says something to the effect that "NO man knows the day nor the hour" where pertaining to the earth coming to a screeching halt and Jesus comes back.

OK...if the Bible says in   Matthew 24:36 that "NO man knows the day or the hour", well, then that's good enough for me to think that these people that are claiming to know, dont know as much as they think they do.

I completely agree with you, the funny thing is this man Harold Camping tried to predict the end of the world in 1994.  As you can see, we're all still here.

Hahaha---maybe if he just keeps guessing at it, he'll get close, anyway?  LOL

Scientifically, the world is not likely to ever end - but dramatic changes to it can certainly kill us off.

Any debate that is founded on nothing (and I love the biblical proof here) just gets me all levels of annoyed.

Another raging debate based off of monetary gain that has caused some serious direct harm to the masses: the study that vaccines cause autism. Millions forwent vaccines and now you see cases of whooping cough, polio, etc all medically preventable. The study? Took 10 years for a scientist to get the blatant truth that the study was rigged & funded by those to gain the most from it.

Hah! How's that for off topic? Believe what you want to believe but proving it's validity is something I think you should do, too.

Besides Harry being a lunatic, twice, how many kids have heard this story and are freaking because he has the direct line. My daughter was questioning the validity unti she heard the story about the '94 prediction. If she were younger(14), I'm afraid that logic might not have been attainable. I'm sure we've got a few sleepless and frightened kids. Wonder what Harry will put on his billboard space on May 22nd?

I've heard way too many people panicking lately about the end of the world coming, if it ends, it ends and there's nothing we can do right? I have seen a few websites where people are saying judgment day is coming and if you "buy this book/kit you'll survive!"

Haha... I laugh @ these people who think they know. Noone will ever know and that is the beauty of it... live everyday like it's your last, laugh way too much, and love like there's no tomorrow. That way you don't spend your time with worries and regrets.

Well well well...Lucky me I guess, I'll see my 24th birthday at least! (May 20th)

My guess is that man who gave his life savings is gonna have one royally pissed off family on his hands on the 22nd!  Maybe the 21st will be the end for him???  lol.

Not to go all Mother Earth on everyone...but maybe the people who are so concerned about the world ending should take a look at how we humans are destroying the planet, killing off entire animal species, and put their life savings into doing something about THAT.  Now THERE is something worth a few billboard spaces!

I enjoy comparing science and religion, very fascinating topic, with extremely different viewpoints.  Who's correct?  That's what makes it so fascinating!!  Totally off topic, but I find most interesting the views of science vs. religion in terms of fossils, dinosaurs, and things like that.

Anyways, about the end of the world... lol...  I'm sure since the begining of man, some yahoo always "knew" that the world was about to end.  With things like national news, television, internet, etc., it's just much easier to see these people now.  I can't imagine the world is just going to end on Saturday lol.

I hope it doesn't end on Saturday...I have a concert to go to a week later :O

The first widely promoted end of the world happened in the late 1800's when Haley's comet came close. Obviously it did not happen then either.

Then who can forget the hysteria of how all the world's mechanical and electronic devices would come to a halt because the computers were all based on the two digit code and could not handle a "00" for year. I remember one commentator saying when they were showing the Eifel tower still lit up at midnight (local) on 1/1/00 and said "well, at least the lights are still on".

Well, I can almost guarantee that the world won't end until at least May 2028.

That will be my last mortgage payment, so the world will probably explode the next day!!!

Haha... I hope the world doesn't explode tomorro... I have to get my class ring tomorrow!! lolz... I also have to start my military training tomorrow... once I get some good training shoes!! lolz

But, like Kevin said, Human beings have been predicting the end since the beginning... we might as wel be trying to predict the number of stars in the univers, or how much booze people will be drinking daily a milio0n years fromnow... much more productive.

I was on my way to work this morning when a radio station was talking about how crazy this guy is, apparently he is a rich business owner.  Also a local guy from NYC used $147,000 (all the money he had) to spread the word with signs around the city, what is he gonna do on Sunday?  I think that if God wanted us to know when he would end the world he would have put the exact date in the Bible, but he didn't for the reason that it would create mass hysteria and more bad than good.

I've been going around asking my teachers if they're prepared for rapture, and I've had some pretty intelligent conversations regarding the subject.

from Seiitsu: I've been going around asking my teachers if they're prepared for rapture, and I've had some pretty intelligent conversations regarding the subject.

No doubt that you got some interesting replies to your question.  I know that I'm "ready to go" if and when the end does happen, and if it's tomorrow, then so be it, but if it's thousands of years from now, then that's ok too.  I think when the end DOES come, there's not a thing that anyone can do to prevent it from happening.

Yeah, I've also wondered what are those followers of the man that started this going to do on Sunday when they're still here, with no homes, no jobs, no family, because they gave it all up to follow some weird man's dream.

I'm with you too, if it happens it happens.  My family and my dogs know how much I love them and I've done alright by them.  But as Seitsu said about the concert.... IT'D BETTER NOT.  I'm going to see the Moody Blues on Tuesday.  I can't believe I've ever seen them in concert before.

Actually I think they had said it was going to end at 6:00PM EDT on the 21st. Rather precise for there not being a calendar reference in the Good Book.

I feel for those who believed in that preacher and spend all their savings in promoting it. They forgot that a preacher is after all just a fallable human like the rest of us. Anytime one says he knows something so other biblical scholar knows, run. This guy had actually done this once before.

I agree, right now all of his followers are left with nothing.  In Staten Island, this poor guy spent his entire life savings promoting this event, now he commented he doesn't know what to say.  I think people should stick to their hearts more than using their head to make decisions.

I know this is an old thread  but I think about it is religion is whats killing this planet. Im a very spiritual person mind you but religion isnt about our creator*s* anymore its about whos got more power or money or "self centered righteousness"  For my people the native americans teach its about a change not an ending. all things change. if God is spirit as the bible claims and we are its children then none of us can truely die. Spirit never does. and to be born again and again daily in a new mind towards that goal for me is what I work for. not about one man or one religion or one doomsday mindset.
