Well here goes:  the bath is now down to bare studs, and the diagonal subfloor only - nothing else is in there....seems that after the water people left we had to begin to remove some tile to replace the sink pipes in the wall and of course removing tiles without the rest following on their own is impossible so we quit but then saw a bit more damage so husband pulled a piece of the plywood up on the subfloor and lo and behold yep lots more water damage, so the whole floor had to be stripped to the subfloor; in doing that the tiles along the floor/wall broke (our house had that tile that ran up the walls to eye level) so the tile at the floor broke and trying to cut those with a clean edge caused the rest to break and crack, then that caused the tile to let loose in one fell swoop and when those fell off the wall and in the process of that automatic destruction they took chunks of the plaster walls with them, meaning that all the tile had to be removed AND the plaster walls had to be removed. And the water we found was aimed towards the tub and the tub had had sewage back into it and the tub is old porcelain and that meant that the sewage had permeated the porcelain so I said "get that nasty thing out" allowing us to see the floor under the tub - so the tub is in the yard now, sink and toilet on the porch yeee haaaa.

I have already gotten the tile guy coming on thursday to install new walls and new tile for the floor and rather than put all that tile back on the walls we are just going to have it around the tub and on the floor.....we wanted a whirlpool tub but the room is so tiny that even in the current layout it didn't meet code and taking another 2 inches was impossible so nix the whirlpool tub; we did opt to move the toilet to the end of the tub so we could add a second sink next to where the sink currently was; the sink and toilet were side by side with the tub in front of them, so now it will be the tub and toilet side by side and a sink side by side....makes more sense....so the vanity is on its way, had to order it, the tub should be here tomorrow, we have the toilet, we purchased the tiles this weekend....the plumber will be here tomorrow at 10am to begin stubbing new plumbing for the tub (that plumbing was ancient and being exposed like it is it would be stupid to not replace it).

Been arguing with insurance about the cost of everything, we have paid out $6000 already just for the new pipe under the garage and removing the toilet/sink/hardwood floor in bath/fans and dehumidifiers.....insurance says the pipe replacement is too much money it's $5000 of the 6000 and they only want to pay $1000, I tried to explain that it wasn't just digging up a pipe this was having to go under the house, cutting a hole in our foundation to access the pipeline under the garage and then having to dig through 30' of dirt to get to the other side of the pipe....it's under a 3 car garage for pete's sake it won't be cheap to tunnel underneath that much space.....and they don't seem to think ANY of the things we are having to buy like tile or new plumbing has anything to do with the water leak.....I keep trying to explain we had a totally fine, functioning bathroom with no pipe problems UNTIL the water problem - removing the sink caused those pipes to collapse, and that required the tile to be removed and the floor coming up caused the tile to be removed that then caused the plaster to fall off, etc etc. and it is costing around $8000 to put the bath back together and that's cutting costs!! about 2000 of the 8000 is for extras I wanted like a proper shower head, a double vanity instead of a single, new lighting seems we had cloth wiring over the sink we had and that has got to be replaced, more outlets since there is only one outlet in the whole room so after taking out what we WANT still leaves 6000 for insurance to cover......the adjuster is coming out to assess the situation on Thursday too, so it will be a busy day

And there we have it - the nightmare from hell.......sorry for the long vent but that's why I may be scarce for a while I will be in plumbing nightmare......I have to round up 8 cats each day not easy when some crawl under the sofa and the rest are on top of the kitchen cabinets.....who wants to come help hahahaha and in the middle of all this I have to somehow get Ben to the oncologist and Monkey Face has bloody stools again so he needs a check up.....are we having fun yet????

Wow Tal!  I'd come help if I could.  We have a old Victorian that we have totally renovated and updated.  Finished it last summer and lo and behold, my husband gets transferred.  So we have made a new offer on another 100 year old house.  Here we go again.  lol  But I definitely feel your pain.  It's fun when it's all done and you can sit and admire it though.  You are definitely a superhero in my opinion with all you do for your family of fuzzy lovies.  :)

What a nightmare is RIGHT!! Remodeling and renos can be so stressful..especially when dealing with insurance companies.. Dang Tal.. this is just too much! Is it your only bathroom? ( Hoping there's a second one you can use while all this is going on... ) otherwise.. HOLY MOLY!

Will check in to see how the oncologist appt. goes for Big Daddy Ben and hope Monkey Face is doing better..

Yes.. I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could.

sending love and prayers

Hi Tal-So sorry this is happening to you, with so much going on it has to be incredible difficult. Deep breaths...I'm praying all goes well and the insurance company figures the error of their ways and take care of this. Prayers to you, Ben and Monkey Face, wish I could come to help too but I wouldnt be much help at all!

OMG Tal, how did I miss that.  I know what a nightmare plumbing can be.  I hear it all the time at work " We just want to replace the toilet..." and it's even worse when there has been a leak.  Don't know why everything has to be so complicated.  Try, at least, to have fun picking out paint colors.

With your talent for colors I would love to see pictures.  I hope you're doing some bright vibrant colors, like we have seen in your coloring and painting.  You have sooo much talent I really hope you're using some of it.  I am a firm believer that you should decorate for you, and the bathroom is a good place to express yourself.  Not everyone would want a whole house of those bright colors, so splurge and do what you want.  Short story...Several years (and 1 husband) ago I wallpapered our bathroom with cat wallpaper.  Steve (husband #1) only complained until  I mentioned I could that I could do the whole house in cat wallpaper.  lol

Good luck with you project, and ya know, you con post pictures

hahahaha, chris that's funny, I did paint a mural on the hall wall one day while hubby was at work and he complained about it, not cause it was poor work mind you but the subject matter bothered him with dead bodies hanging from the trees, a graveyard etc. I will post it here later.....and I told him be careful I could paint ALL the walls in the house hahahaha, now after all these years he LOVES the painting as do all the guests.....

As for the decor I had a vision in mind and it is coming through as long as the vanity doesn't suck up too much space we had an 18" this one is a 21 1/2" so it is bigger and it is a double where we only had a single. I have chosen all linear lines and modern decor, tile that looks like hardwood floor in the color of dark dark walnut it's almost black, the vanity is black with a tempered glass top and the accent tile for around the tub area is tempered glass with the greenish color, and the brown/black of the vanity and floor, I have chosen to have the accent tile laid low just a row above the normal tile at the tub surround so as to keep the eye low and not high, keeping eye low will keep the space looking larger.....I did take interior design and interior decorating in college and LOVE to do this and would love to have my own business doing it. I have chosen a  greenish gray color for the walls and we have recessed LED lights on dimmers for over the sinks, tub and toilet "room" that way you can have mood lighting for a bath :)) I will take pics and post before and afters......thanks for the offers of help just offering makes me feel better about the workload ahead.

here's the vanity comes with the mirror which I don't need anyone want a big mirror with a shelf???

My mother in law just hung up from talking and I explained how EVERYthing in the house is gonna have to be cleaned including the walls, mouldings etc. from the sheetrock dust when done and that nothing in the house will be left untouched with cleaning and she never once offered to help me yet she said she was gonna go rake leaves for neighbor who was too tired to do it herself.....HELLO I need help, she will never ever help me, instead she says "I just don't know how you do what you do with only one leg" well it might have something to do with no one will help me and it has to be done so I do it might take a long time but who else is there to do it??? she drives me crazy and remarks like that when I am talking about what's ahead of me just make me angry I know that's not right, but I get mad at her for leaving me alone to do it and helping those that can do it without even being asked, I have asked her outright and been told no.....so there you have it a nice rant/rave about the motherinlaw

later guys plumber is here....

My goodness, so very much heaped up on your plate!  It honestly sounds, though, that while it may be horribly frustrating and exhausting, that in a way it's been good for you.  It may be the misperception of dealing with written communication, but on the whole you seem upbeat and energetic, in a 'whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger' sense.

Also, if you're serious about the mirror, we'd be happy to give it a good home lol...  been wanting a good sized mirror for a while for our tiny little living room to try and open it up more.

Tal, is that a Ronbow vanity? very nice.  Sounds like the bathroom is going to be lovely.  I knew you had a "flair" didn't know you had the education, good for you, glad you're getting to use it.

Now, mom in law, they are such a challenge. My ex-mil was the perfect mil, she never interfered, she never came over, she never called, we never saw her unless we went to her...perfect.  Who could ask for better.

Tanna is right, you do kinda excited about the whole thing, and besides if mil helped, you would just have to go behind her and do it right. Chin up, you're stronger than you think, you can do this.  you go girl.

That's your pep talk for tonight, get some sleep, give everyone hugs.

Chris it's a Virtu, solid oak with a 7 layer finish, healthy built, I didn't realize though that it was going to weigh in at 358 pounds!!! that's as much as the old cast iron tub that just got removed, so the tile guy is going to make sure the floor is secure enough to hold it tomorrow, good grief, and it comes totally assembled so my poor husband is gonna have his work cut out for him with this one we have a tiny hall with no way to wiggle it in the door so it has to go in on its end....hope that glass counter is wrapped really well and glued in good!!! I called them and the girl assured me it was made to tilt on end without a problem.

Tanna - the mirror is a problem for me I will be checking with my husband about what he wants to do with it he always wants to keep stuff I want to let go :(( but if we decide to send it away here is the size - Mirror with shelf measures 63-Inch wide by 32.2-Inch high - what state are you in I can't remember.....

As for the attitude - all my life I have been told "you have a great attitude" but hey all my life people assured me I was going to die from age of 18months until I turned 16 then they stopped saying that hahaha, so I guess that does give me a brighter outlook than most, this is just a bathroom and the horrors will pass, its material and that's not important, aggravating, frustrating, and annoying only because it keeps me from the fun things :)) and material stuff is not tremendously important. It's been great to reconnect pardon the pun, with the electrician we used for the kitchen remodel he's funny and we have so much fun while he's working I even stuck a "panic" button inside the breaker box and told him if he needed me to push that button, hahahaha, so today he played with it about 5 times just for jollies its loud and obnoxious so it was funny....

As for the MIL she cleans houses for a living and is a stickler for cleaniness she would probably clean Mr. Clean given a chance hahahaha, so yes I could use her help.....but she told me today that we needed to do something about the back deck that we don't use (yes we do use it, she just assumes we don't she makes things up like that) but she said when she was here at easter she picked up the outdoor rug and looked under it !!!! and it was keeping the wood damp and that would rot our deck boards and I needed to make sure my husband her son, moved that rug!!!! hello!!!! it had just rained for 4 days and had rained easter morning!!!! sorry I didn't have time to blow dry the deck before her visit hahahaha - she looked under the deck rug, seriously??? what are you thinking woman???   and then tells me to just close off the office and our bedroom and my art studio and forget about the sheetrock dust, WHAT??? does she think we live like slobs or that we don't care??? I'm not closing off rooms to hide that dust it needs to be cleaned away crazy woman.....I mentioned I needed to get the porch scrubbed and repainted and she got offended and said "well now I helped you scrub that porch!!!" I said "yes you did and I appreciate that but that was over 10 years ago it needs it every 3 years and it's been 4" ...

Ok so tomorrow at 8am I get to wake up at 6:30am, me who stays up till 2-3am and gets up at 10am and also be able to have brain engaged to discuss this deal with the insurance adjuster that will be here at 8am....she's supposed to cut a check tomorrow too, she better have the same figure in mind I do, that's all I gotta say hahahaha

oh! the tub is in and holds water that is good news....no walls or floor but the tub holds water hahahaa

later guys
