I might be opening a can of worms here, and a few of you may be members of PETA, but does anyone other than me think they go way too far sometimes? I remember they threw a fit over a commercial that had a monkey walking out and pushing down a plunger to launch confetti in the air. They said it was unethical to use a monkey like that. While I'm very supportive of the efforts to end animal cruelty, I think when they throw fits over stuff like that, it makes people not want to take anything they do seriously.

some of PETA People go too far and are exttremist...that is not good. But its not all of PETA just a group inside of the organization.

Yeah, what sucks is that they are really working for a good cause, it is just those extreme cases that make a lot of people not want to take the group seriously at all.

Hi I am a member of Peta and they protest that sort of thing not because the monkey is doing something like that on tv but the fact that the treatment off camera is not in the best interest of the animals protrayed in commercials; it's the behind the scenes issues that they take issue with not the actual act in the commercial. I can safely say that when I have called them they have been very interested, articulate, kind, understanding and will actually take action and believe it or not it is still a place where a human answers the phone on the second ring. Any time you have animals involved with humans where humans focus is on money typically the animal is not in the best of care and is in the perfect position for abuse, since money usually comes before compassion in money making projects.

Typically there are extremist in every faction of any large group and Peta gets alot of bad press when one radical or a couple of them do something ridiculous, the media finds out who that person says they are affliated with and goes after the big man so to speak. Having visited their website on a weekly basis I can also say that their website does in no way condone ANY of these radical things we hear about; they will however, show what organized groups in other countries are doing to stop abuse etc. and some of those are alittle on the gory side and in your face. But they don't encourage that.

Their website is very "clean" not gory, it is bright cheerful and has excellent information on what to do if you see abuse and who to contact; what to expect when you contact someone locally; how to provide for your animals in your will; how to add one meatless day to your diet and lots of tiny ways to help the animals, even a cruelty free shopping mall where you can find everything from make up to plants for outside from merchants that pass a rigorous exam about animal use in their products and end up being designated as cruelty free; very interesting, love their website; they have links of course to action petitions and such if that's what you want to do but if you are looking for options other than leather, down etc. they have info on how to find it.....along with info on how to protest it.

Hope that helps.....it shouldn't be a can of worms so don't worry about asking, I used to feel the same way until I found out about the off camera conditions then I became alert to animals in commercials....with computer generated animals now there really isn't a need to use a real animal and put them through the stress of on set noise and hyper stimulation that can lead to unstable behavior in an animal.

I guess it is just the extremists in the group, but they kinda ruin the average person's view of PETA, you know? If you ask the average person on the street what PETA is, they just think of the crazy members. They ruin it for everyone, just like in all kinds of groups I guess.

hahhahahaha Ziva's dad I agree

All those radicals do ruin it for the rest of us, I mean if you ask me and I am a member what's the first thing that pops in your head it will be the media's coverage of the radicals and all that smeared blood stuff it's called shock treatment and I guess it works cause the media is all over it but that's when in my opinion bad press is just that - bad press - some believe any press is good press - not in the case of trying to convey a serious message with shock, doesn't work, it turns people off; that's why if I really want to know what they are up to I go the website and ignore the media.......education is how I like to enlighten people not shock value ........
