I just got to sit here and catch up on most of the posts from the last few weeks and I must say it is nice to read all the stories, see the pictures, and add to my Doberman experience!  Especially after my extremely hard exam today... which made me want to take a stiff drink and cry... haha.

I get to finish up my week with light studying and then I'm on spring break! So excited.  We had our trip cancelled (we were going to road trip with the dogs to Sedona, AZ) and instead will be working on the house.  I'm still interested in taking Steve to the mountains for the day or so... so expect some pictures of the brute.  He's filled again.  I kinda miss him being a little squirt.  Any fun suggestions for things to do with him since we'll be home?

Anyway! Thanks guys.  Glad I found this Forum on a random google search.

YAAY!  You're done exams!!!  WOOO!!!  I know that feeling :)  And if you need a drink afterwards, well...you deserve a brew or two!

Hmmm fun suggestions...Well if it was me I'd be sleeping in everyday haha but I'm sure that's not Steve-o's idea of a good time!  Definitely go for a trip to the mountains!  And runs, but I know you guys do that lots anyway.  Maybe take him somewhere he's never been before, just so he can check it out!  I donno.  I'm still in study mode, my brain is fried therefore suggestions are not overly creative.

I always forget you guys have longer semesters, my sister is at Calvin College in MI so I should remember.  I only have 4 MORE WEEKS TILL SUMMERRRR!  (not to rub it in or anything)  ;)

And the thanks should go to you, Jess!  I always enjoy reading your posts.

Congrats..Glad your exam is over.. now you have a lovely spring break to enjoy.. Too bad about Sedona.. one of my favorite spots..but the Bay Area is wonderful too.. Why not take Steve and Sir Harry to the Redwoods. The energy there will equal the red rocks and you could make it a quick touch and go and STILL work on the house. How do you feel you did on your final?

P.S. We're glad you're here too

Sweetpea you're lucky!! I don't end until May 22nd ;P
Btw I have seen audo cad (is it autocad? My iPhone hates me with the autocorrect) and it's pretty cool. What do you do with it exactly? I know Eli uses it for his planning...

And yes Kate maybe we will go redwoods. I was thinking a weekend in Mendocino. We did that last year and really enjoyed it. Poor Harry is not fit to travel.. Got a call he had massive diarrhea / vomiting today.. His age is showing :( but Miles "Davis" loves the beach and I want to see what Steve thinks of it too.

Oh Jes, good for you!  What a relief.  Could you do me a teeny tiny favor??? If you go to the redwoods, tell them how much I miss them!  LOL  Oh, and on the working on the house thing, remember my post about painting?  Steve would be more than happy to try and help!!  Don't worry, it's only latex paint, and eventually it'll come off.

Have a great spring break Jes!  Don't just have a drink, go have some wonderful chocolate something!  Oh, I love to celebrate with chocolate!!  And when you're talking to the redwoods for Happydance, tell them, even though I never seen them, I think they're beautiful.  You guys will have so much fun!  And working on the house will be rewarding in it's own way, too!

Aww poor Harry. :(  I hope he's feeling better soon!

I use autocad as a design tool, which is essentially what the program is designed for.  We do floor plans, elevations and other various construction drawings, it's actually a lot of fun, except when things are due and you're under the gun to get them done!  Sitting in front of a computer for 10 hours straight is not my idea of a good time lol.

The distraction factor for me in front of a computer is unreal.  I try and do most of my calculations and planning by hand and use Excel for data analysis.  Excel is actually a really cool, diverse, program but the latest versions are missing abilities the older versions had.  Kind of backwards, if you ask me!

And at first Wendy I thought you were going to ask me to ship you some wine and I was all set to do it!  We like to go to the Anderson Valley Brew Co and they are dog friendly.

If the rain keeps up, I'll get my way and finally be able to paint a bathroom.  If not, I'm out in the yard finishing it up.  We left about 1/4 without grass and we have to haul dirt out and put some crushed granite down for paths, plant some creepy-crawling plants, and make a garden box.

Thanks for the hurrahs guys! I was just glad to sit down and not think of school for a good few hours yesterday.  ;)

Oh  my Jess.. I feel your pain... We've  been renovating for almost a year now... The only  thing we've left 'original' is the ceiling and some walls.. All new plumbing, lighting, wiring for the lighting  and huge trenches all over the 4,000 square feet of house, trying to find an elusive leak. Re-laying new copper pipe and PVC. Re-plastered ALL the walls ( the ones we left standing as some others have  been torn down.) Removed every door to every cupboard and closet ( 40) sanded them down to the surprising beautiful mahogany grain and now have the  happy task of staining ( did you know doors and drawers have TWO sides???)

Next step is the flooring... OMG the flooring.. must order the Saltillo tile from Tecate..lay it, glaze it. Voila!

Paint is ordered.. a pretty light caramel. I'm exhausted when I think of the scope of work STILL left to do.. but it IS fun and when we're done.. it will be our dream home.. ( right now it's our nightmare)

We are so fortunate that our contractors all share our vision and they truly love the house as it has so much history.. The former governor of Baja resided there at one time. ( word has it he kept one of his la-la's upstairs  in the soon-to-be retreat/library.)

Now all we have to do is name the place.. Villa Mal Sueno is heading the list.

Katie, you know we wouldn't mind viewing a few photos of the casa!! Every time you write about it I feel the most splendid beauty you are restoring.

Jess, Wishing you a fabulous break, with weather to do all! Enjoy, Enjoy! Your busy schedule deserves a HUGE Hold :)

What a perfect place for the Diva!  All this remodeling is inspiring!  Maybe I'll start a thread on home improvement over in the other things category titled:  What to do with rough wood paneled walls??

Lady Kate - Love to see them. Already developing a few imagined!!
Mandy - I have so many repairs to do here, not to mention all the want 2s! Guess I will watch it fall apart board by board. I seem to be changing gears in the aging process. Never thought it would happen. Ouch, moan, groan, ugh!

We could start a DIY thread. I've gotten very crafty in my thriftiness. We are building our own table and benches to put in our sun room since our house has no where to eat!

We had bought the house after a quick flip by previous owners. Lots of things done wrong. It's frustrating. We put in our backyard before we got Steve. That was a process as the yard had been a dump site instead of paying for garbage. The crap we found.. I tested out dirt for lead levels (cos I am really cool like that) and though within legal limits it was way high for residential soil.

Shall we share all our "at home project" images? :)

blue.. what a great idea.. I've poured over books and designs for about four years now.. until I've come up with what we really really think we love.. however. open to new suggestions..Sometimes one can get caught up in an idea that just rules your judgement..Like a beautiful brass sink.. it was sitting inside a powderoom in gorgeous colbalt blue tile.. I love the sink, but the powderoom made no sense as it was right in the middle of the house.. so i salvaged the sink.. gutted the powderroom, now Mike has his man-cave...

If we had a thread... Like: Ask the Expert

we could all volunteer our expereince with things like plumbing, foundation layouts.. LANDSCAPING.. OMG I made a deal with Mike that he could  have the outside if I could have the inside.. he's Queen Palming us to death!!

IO no particular order.. the back of the house before it's landscaped and painted and wroght iron added to it

The courtyard beFORE it's been trenched and landscaped..

the interior.. you can see the brick arch we're doing in the dining area.. and Mike's man-cave that used to be a bano.. beyond is the kitchen and kitchen dining area and a huge pantry...

now letssee if I can load these up for y'all to see.

Jes., when I first moved to California, I almost rented a house in the heart of Alexander Valley.  Such a cool old farmhouse in the middle of a vineyard.  Everyone, forget the Napa wines, go Sonoma!!!

Heck, there looks to be enough room for all of us to bring our sleeping bags, blanket & pillows, or whatever & have a slumber party next to the arch...  which also happens to be next to the cantina!

Katie, it's beautiful. I'm as green as the lawn! It's just a few steps away from magnificent. 3-4 months? You must be very eager to get in! And what a place for entertaining! And Living!! I can't tell exactly where the boundaries are... Is the guest area on the left or right?
Oh what is going through the Diva's mind as she takes inspection of "la mujer"?

yes.. yes... and OH MY YES.. Bring your kids, and paint brushes.. we're going to start the first coat in about a week.

The house is a big U shape with the courtyard in the middle.. guest quarters are separate from the main part.. but just a walkacross to the cantina.( and there IS a bar in the courtyard AND the back yard. ( never too far from the tequila) it was designed as a party house and held a lot of receptions.. most of my neighbors have been in the house and have attended a lot of the functions that were held there over the years.. Oh the stories they can tell. They get wilder as the years go on. everyone is more than welcome to come over and play. Wendy.. I'm going to PM you RIGHT NOW..Gotta hear about these sinks!
