Well, I did it, completed my first tri!  I had a swim time of 19:44, bike 49:05 and run 31:31.  My transition times were 2:34 and :50, for an overall time of 1:43:40.  I came in 8th in my age catagory and 203rd overall.  My goal was 1:40 for the overall, so I came pretty close, something to strive for next time!  I can definitely see how these races are addicting!

Now for the photo evidence - sorry some are a bit blurry, apparently I was too fast for the camera

The before shot...I'm on the left

warming up for the swim - that's me in there somewhere!

Coming out of the transition for the bike (I'm in the pink shirt)

Runrunrunrun!

Aaaand the after shot! Sufficiently exhausted lol and staring into the distance...pondering my next race perhaps??

Thanks guys!  I'm looking into doing another one in september, and I'm hoping to get my time down to 1:20 by next summer...and also buy a road bike.  I'm at a serious disadvantage with my mountain bike, especially on the hill climbs!  People were flying past me!  The camraderie was great though, everyone was so friendly and people encouraged each other as they went by.  Lots of "good job's" and "you're doing great's" exchanged, especially during the run.  Even people taking time to thank the police who were directing traffic as they went by!  I was never athletic in high school or grade school, so this is an accomplishment for me.  It feels good!

That's pretty awesome, I've always wanted to do a triathlon. I currently road bike and am training for a 240 mile ride next Spring/Summer. I used to do Crossfit at a local gym and will be starting that back pretty soon. They actually have a team that does that an triathlons. Congratulations though, that's a big accomplishment!

240 MILES?!  WHOA.  Now THAT's impressive!  Over what kind of time frame?  Don't kid yourself there Phi, you could probably do a tri in your sleep!  My bike was only 20k, I think around 12 miles.

LOL, sweetpea it's over 4 days and it's not really a race. So the average speed is maybe 18 mph. However since I live in the flatlands around here I will have to ready for the hills up north. We'll be riding into Washing DC for Police Week next year. There are about 300 officers that ride in it each year representing a fallen officer with a bracelet on their wrist. It's called the Law Enforcment Unity tour and besides riding we get to stop and spend time with the kids, wives, and family of this years fallen officers. But regardless the 240 mile does intimidate me a little. But that's why I'm starting now :).

Still...impressive nonetheless!  That sounds like it will be a great ride.  Very meaningful for yourself and the other officers, no doubt emotional and very appreciated by the families of the fallen.  I know it's a year away but make sure you take some pictures and let us know how it goes!  And good luck with the training :)
