We used to do a whole 1/3 acre of halloween stuff, graves, cemetery, and then each year the rest of the haunt the themes changed.....so this is really really scaled back!!! It's kinda sad since it's just the two of us which is really about 1 1/2 people cause of me on crutches but we did the following and it should do I guess, looks better at night:

Hope you had fun trick or treating at my house!!!

As you can see what looks a bit bright and glaring in the day time is needed to keep it visible at night, you have to know what things will look like in the dark to make it work. I was building coffins for a masoleum one year and it was to have a blacklight glow - turns out that those pink insulation panels at lowes turn gray in blacklight, but in the daytime those suckers were pink and looked weird....hahahaha

This is NOT up to the quality of what we usually do, this just took an hour and half to complete whereas we used to work for a solid 3 months so very very scaled back. But love it anyway......

Sampson was ready to kill that swinging ghoul at the steps that hangs he was really flipped out by that thing

I miss the days of having 15 actors and doing the whole 6 car garage and yard - we were in the paper and on TV - we were the local "place to be on Halloween" I would be at the grocery store and people would say one of two things -

1. I know you you have all the cars

OR

2. I know where you live - you do that huge haunted house each year

we used to have the whole street lined up with people sometimes 350 people would walk our yard and garage in 2 1/2 hours usually it was around 250-300; some people came from as far away as Georgia and Tenn. one guy said he saved up all year a dollar here and there so that on Halloween him and his grandson would ride all the way from middle Tenn about 6 hours away just to come to our free haunt.....he said it might sound silly but he couldn't do much for his grandson during the year but the dollars would add up and he could buy gas and they would make it a whole day adventure...... but when we scaled it back he said he would most likely not come anymore, we said we understood and felt really bad that we took that adventure night away from him :((  we usually started prepping for the event in June, this little display in the pics above is what we might have in just one of the scenes and we usually had around 8-10 scenes since we had 15 people to spread out, so this is REALLY scaling it back. We NEVER did the chainsaw or blood it was just your quiet inner fear that would get you......we did have one guy that would chase people but he was the only one, and people LOVED him.....

supposed to be bitterly cold and possible snow so we shall see how this works out

Oh my gosh! What fun! I wish I lived somewhere where people were invested enough in the area to decorate for the holidays.

We had a fair night tonight, it was very cold.....the kids did come by but not alot.....those that did come by I could hear them all the way down the street talking to their friends and saying "hurry we have to get to "the halloween house" " one kid would say what's that, the other would say "it's a house that has tons of decorations and they are creepy and scary, they have lots of stuff, hurry" and others could be heard saying how much they loved our place......

Then the adults could be heard talking about it, and some would come up and tell me that they specifically made a point to drive to our house for treats, they plan on it every year!! it's quite amazing and humbling to be told your house is a talked about and PLANNED destination in a home where the family is deciding where to trick or treat. We can be trusted to be nice and kind but scare the crap out of you and we have the best treats. No cheap stuff here, they get hershey kisses, reese's cups, peppermint patties, baby ruths, nestle crunch.....all those items that when I was growing up were longed for yet too expensive for anyone to give out free......they get those

alot of people when they walk up with their kids will say how much they miss the old days when we did up the huge haunt, it's nice to hear that people really looked forward to it and planned on it and miss those big events......it's also sad to think we are disappointing some by not having those big nights....

Wow Tal,it seems like you and your family are providing an excellent Haunted House and do not listen to those who yearn for the old days, it is indeed this year very grand and very generous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love all your designs, all of your decorations are quite tastefull and not tacky plasticy stuffxxxx

we used to get alot of our props from Spencers and Universal Studios commercial prop catalog so yes it was quite the event......spencers is no longer here not sure if they even exist anymore......and universal studios is pricey.......each year we would allot ourselves $1200 to add more items to the displays but in the past 5 years we have not added much at all we are just using what we had.....I donated a whole pickup truck load to a friend and still have probably 3 more trucks I could fill up.....but I kept the really good stuff :)) the really creepy things......so we shall see next year......
