Every year San Jose, CA has the biggest doggy event around and this was our first year visiting.

They have cool events like Owner/dog look-a-like contest, tail wagging contest, costume contest, etc.  They also have kiddie pools filled with water and a misting tent for pups to cool down in.  As well as vendors galore, selling all things dogs love.  There were flyball, rally, agility, and herding demonstrations.  Harley and Ellie were busy eating grass while Kevin and I watched the herding demonstration with the sheep.  We got a good laugh because all the shepards where howling when they saw the sheep.  Harley and Ellie got to walk through one of the fly ball courses.

I couldn't help it, but we had professional pictures taken of Harley and Ellie at the event....I'll post those as soon as they are available.  They will be our Christmas pictures this year.  Green background with both dogs wearing a red ribbon.

We saw every color of doberman there except blue.  Red, black, fawn, and albino.  I had to go up and pet the albino doberman puppy, I have never seen one in person before.  He was WAY too young to be there.  Probably 6-7 weeks.  Yikes!

Harley was little nervous at first, it can be kind-of a stressful event for a dog, but we met so many of our doggy friends that he soon loosened-up.  He got to rump around with his friends Archie, Saki, and Nemo.  But by far, the BEST part of the day was when he let kids pet him.  Lots of them.  One at a time and different times throughout the day.  He was such a good boy!  Lots of little boys came up to him, because they wanted a dog just like him.  And two sets of parents asked us what kind of family dog he was.  I was so PROUD!

Needless to say we didn't need to go on our evening walk that day.  They were both out like a light when we got home.

I tried to take pictures, but they came out awful.  I'll post the one semi-decent one later.

Like I said, I am a TERRIBLE photographer with my fingers and shadow all over the place.  But I still wanted to share. Isn't Harley being a good boy letting that strange dog smell him?

Looks like so much fun! We do all the events supporting dogs in the city. Believe it or not cities have $$$ to educate about proper dog care (dispose of waste the right way, protection laws, city permits!). :)

Glad you guys had a good time. I got pictures taken of Laith at one. I felt sort of weird at first, but it was to go towards the American Cancer Society and the Humane Society. All in good fun!

Like Laith said, it all goes towards a good cause.  I think the money from this event went to the Silicon Valley Humane Society.  They have this beautiful brand new facility that is nice, clean, and organized. It must take some $$$ to keep that place running!

What a good way to spend a Saturday!

That sounds like tons of fun!  It never ceases to amaze me how much people push the young puppies.. into diseases... around other dogs... exposing them to so many risks.  I feel like asking sometimes, "Would you leave your 3 month old son/daughter on the grass and walk away?" because its almost as dangerous.

Anyway... LOVED the photos.. and the story.  So glad that Harley let the kids pet him, that's huge!

His face is absolutely adorable with the floppy ears.  :)

And Ellie, of course, is just darling!

These people must of spent a fortune to get a white doberman puppy and then to expose him to 3,500 dogs????  Thats how many dogs go this event.  My husband was actually kind of upset and almost said something. Anywoo...  It was a blast!

Thanks for sharing a great story and photos to match.I really enjoy posts about happy dogs with great parents who clearly care for and love them.Unfortunately, there are irresponsible owners like this poor albino's.Just hope he doesn't catch anything while his immunizations are building up in his system.

6-7 weeks?! I couldn't even take Laith home at that age!

Isn't it sad?  Like Pat said, we can only hope the puppy didn't catch anything.  It was also a super bright day and he also needed sunglasses (those blue eyes).  He kept turning his face into the owner.  I can only assume it was because he was shy or the light was bothering him.

Harley came to us at about 6 weeks.  The people who bred him only cared about money and lied about his age to get the "production line" moving.  TERRIBLE!  He came to us soooo young, I wasn't even sure he was a doberman at first because I kept thinking, "He is so small for 10-week old doberman."  Turns out he wasn't close to 10 weeks at all.  He went from being taken away from his mother, to inside one of those window boxes at a pet store, to being inside someone's home for week, to finally landing with us.  His life has been good and settled since then and he is happy.

I definetly recognize a 6-week old doberman... is wasn't that long ago since Harley was that age.  Now he is about 50 lbs and still acting like a loon, but we love him so much!

Oh my! I hear horror stores on here all the time. My situation wasn't ideal looking back. Laith was pretty chunky when we picked him up. A good 15lbs. But did have a terrible cold!

I am glad he found a great home with you guys! :)

I can only imagine that poor little puppy with those eyes/coat. Laith can't even deal with sun on his back now. lol. But he is a dramatic goofball.

Thank you all for the concern of Zero, he actually is 11 weeks and 5 days in counting, he's a healthy puppy and had all his shots before going to the event. The vet did mention that it would be fine to take him and start socializing him. We had a wonderful time, him just being a puppy he just wanted to meet every doggy their. Being an owner of previous dogs and Dobermans I do consider my self a very responsible Doggy mom (owner). Puppies can catch anything even in ones own front lawn/backyard thinking its safe from exposure to diseases, but theirs always that stray dog or cat leaving a few surprises for you on the grass, other than your own pet. The Albino Doberman is not a common dog in our city, so of course many people had questions and concerns about him. I made tripple precautions of his safety and well being since I do consider him part of my family I made sure that nothing harmed him in anyway. He stirred up quite an attraction at the event, but to me he’s just my silly little explorer. Thanks again all for your concerns.

Dolfine143, I am so sorry to have misjudged the age of your pup!  I really do apologize!  He was beautiful and I am glad to have met him. Harley is probably not a standard size, so I should not of compared the two.

Best of luck on your newest family member and sorry again!

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Also, the people on this forum are super nice and welcoming and only showed concern because I gave them the wrong information.  I hope you stick around, share stories, give updates, etc!  It really is fun and rewarding.

Doh, I'm gonna have to be the bad guy here.  First of all, Welcome to the Forum.  The bad new is... your pup is not fully vaccinated yet.  I think maybe you miss understood your vet.  Their final parvo combo is at 16 weeks.  Please find the thread. "Parvo and why we vaccinate".  Thank you for posting the newspaper article, looks like it was great fun!
