I kind of laughed when our Kiwi Ria suggested Sofia might be a therapy dog. When ever I have an occasional arthritis flare up.. so does she.. if I'm watching a touching movie, and sniff at bit ( yeah.. well what do you expect from a romance novelest?) she will come and put her head on my lap. Yesterday Mike hurt his back coaching his line backers.. ( Come on Coach!! You're not 20 yrs old anymore) He was in considerable pain and just sprawled out flat. so was she..Can our doberdocs really have sympathy pains? There are many times that she shows extraordinary empathy. It was interesting at first.. now it's getting sorta weird..Anyone else have a super intuitive dobie?

Hi KT
For sure they do, last week i damaged my toe whilst shifting the dog kennel (Q has never been in it lol) didnt look too bad, bit of blood and pain,(few curses) ??? Stuck a dressing on it and forgot about it. :) But Q wouldnt leave it alone...kept sniffing, sniffing, sniffing all week. Yesterday it exploded with all sorts of nasty gunk...now on high dose of antibiotics for cellulitis 8)

They can smell the infection. They can also smell certain cancers as well. Their nose, although not as sensitive as a bloodhounds, tells all.

However, sometimes they don't come through. I have been down all day sniffling with a cold. Have I gotten any sympathy from my pair? Not in the least. Princess has just been a wart all day. I sit down at the computer and suddenly this pointed red nose slips under my left elbow and flips up. I have learned in the last six months to never have a cup or glass with any liquid in my left hand. There's just no telling where it might wind up.

If that doesn't work, then a 72 pound head is placed in my lap. At least it feels like 72 pounds when she presses down hard. She will simply NOT be ignored. Finally in desperation, I kick the two of them outside for an hour or so.

So the Coach gets home from the doc ( laser treatment and Vicodin) feeling much better.. Sofia is outside rolling on the grass kicking her legs up in the air like a young colt! It's uncanny!!  ???

Jeez Rgreen.. sorry you've got a cold.. get better soon.. You can borrow Sofia, she'll squeeze herself in beside you and lay her head on any part she can reach and stare at you, willing the cold to go away.. It works. Is Princess really 72 pounds?? She's all grown up now isn't she.
Ria.. Laser treatment.. It's amazing. I have a doc in Ensenada who uses it to help arthritis, strains, sprains, and even disc problems. I have no clue how it works, just know that 20 mins and forty bucks later, you walk out of his office feeling like a kid again..
