I understand and use the whole pack leader figure in establishing that I'm the leader but what about other canine pack members and other dogs in general.  Soleil is friendly in greeting a friendly dog and very tolerant and playful with my other dog but recently when we visit another house she is not so tolerant with their dog.  (We go once a week) I can take anything away from her food, toys whatever but if a dog tries it.... she lets them know that stealing from her will not work.  She is all show (or at least that's all its been so far) she sounds far worse than it is. She has never drawn any blood and i don't even think she is using her mouth but if it happens it sounds like an all out dog fight.  What do you do in cases like this, do you let the dog establish dominance and only intervene if it gets beyond your level of acceptable behavior? The other problem I have is its not my house... and not both my dogs... I have heard mixed opinions on this and I an unsure what to do.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.. Thanks

She's just showing that she's worth having around. Entering another pack, even for a visit, is a tricky thing for dogs. They test each other. Soleil is just showing that she's not to be pushed around and is a valuable asset to any pack.

When she gets nasty though, it's good to correct her. It's your job to stress about who is accepting who - not hers. She just needs to be reminded of that. Otherwise visits can be stressful and this type of problem can get worse.

If you see the other dog once a week, you should be able to correct that one's behavior too. People can be strange about their dogs though, so careful not to hurt any people's feelings by trying to shape their dog into a healthy tempered one.

Personally, If I meet a dog twice I consider it my obligation to make it behave when I'm around. Most people appreciate this and learn a bit watching me make their dog relax and not make everyone in the house miserable for a time.

Well I get another shot tomorrow we are going there for Turkey day... I hope all works out... about 90% of the time they are good but that last 10% keeps me on edge.  I am pretty crazy about people teaching my dog so I understand and will try to be discreet.  It's seems to always be the female dogs that she has issues with.  Its almost funny but it is both of them that start it ...We will see! Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the response! :D
