We just finished our 5th (out of a total of 6)class in beginning agility tonight. Next week is the final class.  DJ was a rocket! The course was more complex than it had been before, incorporating all obstacles that we have worked with for the first 4 weeks. She had to go over the dog walk, then sit in the pause box for a full count of 5 seconds, then quickly into the tunnel (which DJ has literally mastered now, and zooms thru it long before I can run to the other end). From the tunnel, we went through a series of 12 weave poles, then through one tire jump, pivot to a bar jump and pivot again through a 2nd tire jump, and ended with going through the chute. DJ was amazing! (Not competition level, of course, but for a shy doberman that wouldnt even stick her nose into the tunnel 4 weeks ago, she was fantastic). We ran this course several times, and even ran in reverse order, beginning with the chute and ending with the dog walk. Man, she has really 'found' her confidence this week. The instructor bragged about her the entire hour, because she had improved SO much. You should have seen her flying through the weave poles....of course, I was still 'baiting' her with treats to follow in order to go back and forth through them, but she found her 'gait' and was almost jumping through the spaces, both front feet at the same time, going right to left to right, all the way through them, as fast as I could run and keep a treat in front of her.  I'm so glad I am taking her to these classes...she has come so far in 5 short weeks.

Paul,

Way to go DJ!!!  Kaiser is loving it too, we are on week 3 - second class.  Isn't so much fun!! : ).. Kaiser is like a horse ready to go out of the gate!  I think I am going to have a harder time remembering the course than he is. (for sure) I think Doberman's are such wonderful natural athletes, he isn't as fast a his collie counter parts but he moves with such grace I love watching him.  He is fearless and enjoying it some much.  He to, is faster than I.  Ehhh hmmm Kaiser will do anything for cheese.

So happy our pups are getting to experience this.  I just watch him and think to myself "ain't he something special"  I am such a proud mama!!!!!

Mary, EXACTLY!

I'm so busy watching where I'm supposed to be going next, that all I really ever see of DJ is the top of her head or her rear end, when she runs ahead of me into the tunnel.  We have a couple of Labs in our class that have been in agility classes before, so they always show everyone up, if you're counting points or speed, but I'm not...it's just for fun as far as I'm concerned, and DJ is really beginning to love some of those obstacles.  I think her favorite might be the dog walk...she flies up and across it, and would be perfectly happy if I just let her run back and forth across it for the whole hour.  My wife usually goes with me just to watch, and she told me last night that DJ looked like she really knew what she was doing all the way through the course, and how impressive she looked when she was going through the poles. I did notice her front feet were totally synchronized as she ran through them, and I was smiling like the Cheshire Cat while running her through them.   We have classes outside (it's starting to get kinda cold here already) and the sun actuallty starts going down about a half hour into our hour long class, so photos havent been turning out well.  I'll see if my wife can try to get at least one or two good ones before it gets too dark next week....our last class.

Glad that Kaiser and you are enjoying your classes, too.  I would recommend basic agility classes to anyone with any dog, it's such a great bonding experience and the dogs get a chance to learn new stuff and have fun doing it.  GREAT confidence builder for them, and it tires them out mentally and physically.  DJ came home and crashed on the couch.  Slept like a rock all night long last night.  That means, today, she will be recharged and full of energy!

I would love it if you could post a video.  I would love to see DJ in action. I would love to get Axel in some agility but its not to readilly available in my neck of the woods so let me live vicariously through DJ.

Wow way to go DJ!!!! she just keeps going like the energizer bunny, there is nothing she can't do!!!! Ben says to let her know if she doesn't stop with all these accomplishments then he will have to get up and try to do something important and he really doesn't want to have to do that...hahahahaha

Ohhh, sorry guys.  The last class was Nov 23rd, and it was cloudy and getting dark by the time our class was getting in the swing of things.  My wife tried to shoot a short video clip but everything was too dark and blurry to even see what was going on.

DJ did get her Agility 1 Completion certificate, though.

Wow well done. Feel like DJ is the super-achiever of the pack. I'm always curious what she's up to cause I know she'll be doing something impressive. I still laugh when I think of her coming at you with the knife......
