Hi Everyone, I just read Dobiemom's post and Harley's bio and the captions under the pictures cracked me up. Her one caption reminded me of all the different names we have for Ginger (like Dobiemom, we have names, too, for different things she does).

Here are some of Ginger's pet names that we call her:  Missy Lou, The Lou, Louie, 'Dis Baby (because we got her as a puppy and she was younger than our other dog, Lexy), Goosebear, Legs Louie (because she has gorgeous gams), Tootsie Face (because her feet are beautiful), Mommy's Baby, Daddy's Girl, Snarky Fark, "Silly," "Pretty," "Beauty."  I'm sure there are some that we forgot!

What nicknames do you all have for your dobiekids?

Kate, that's all?  You don't call her any other silly, goofy name?  Oops, I misspoke - I know you could never call her Highness anything goofy, but you know, names that you whisper to her or call her when she makes your heart swell with love.

I don't have that many "pet" names for mine, I guess because guys generally don't do that. Princess gets called "Miss P", "Pretty Girl" and "Baby Girl". Red gets called "Big Boy" and "Clifford" (as in the big red dog). On occasion when he does something silly I tell him he is a "goofus".

Lady Kate - hee, hee; I knew it!    Awwww; these are very fitting names for your baby!

rgreen4, you are right; I think this is a "girl" thing.  I talk a lot of baby talk with Ginger ('cause she's a baby!).   :)

Princess is also my baby. Especially when she lays her head on my leg and looks up at me. If I don't respond to her, she starts increasing the down pressure on me until I do. I still have trouble reading her. Last night I though she wanted out, and went to the back door and opened it. She looked out, turned around and went toward the bathroom. Then I understood - the water bowl was empty.

And of course since I keep the cover on the porcelin well, when the bowl in empty they can't get any water.

I call my boys bub, boogaloo, mr magoo, etc.  I usually call the girls chickie, chica, baby girl, honey, sweetie, etc.  Those are just the general ones that apply to any of them. But separately ...

Karma = Karmie, Karma Corn, Karma Chameleon, Karm, and sometimes Sadie by mistake because she looks a lot like her half sister, Sadie, that died at 12 a few years ago

Rory = Ro (and that's about it, she's deprived)

Zeke = Zekey, ZZ, Zeke the freak

Kismet = Kizzy, Kiz, Kizzy Kiz

Shelby = Shelby!  She doesn't have any nicknames!

Royal = Mr Man, Handsome Man, and sometimes Wonder by mistake because he looks a lot like a male named Wonder I lost to lymphoma a few years ago

Moxie = Tick (she is usually attached to my leg)

Copper = Copperhead, Coppertone, Coppertop

I do confess to also in error calling Red "Hansy" after Hans von Tigre, my first red male that I had a puppy at 8 weeks in the summer of 1984 until I lost him to kidney failure in Novermber 1995. I have only had three males, Hans, Kaiser Wilhelm von Tigre (Willy) who was a black and rust male out of Hans' last litter in 1994 and lost him in 1999 to cancer. Then I got Red (Princz Erich von Redmon) in May of 2003 as a 12 week old puppy.

Of course when I do that, I stop and fondly remember my constant companion of so many years, so many years ago. Then I recover, stroke him and call him my Red Man and we go on.

They are all so deserving of our immense affection, and the ones who have passed still remain in our hearts and memory.

Harley got Harley Horse from the cramp you get Charlie Horse, or Hobby Horse, like a toy horse a child would ride..from that we go to Horseington, or Ton of Horse, I also call him Donkey, cuz he is about as big as a Donkey. I also own 3 rabbits, and you know when rabbits sit with all their feet curled under them, and they look like a chicken all nestled? Well, thus I have three chickens and a horse as pets..

I started calling him Boog or Boogie, from the cartoon movie Open Season with Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawerence (who voiced Boog, the big bear) which turned into Oog or Oogie, then Goog or Googie, Oogen Mcdoogal, or McGoogen ( I know someone with the last name McGoogen, so it just fit into the natural progression of these nicknames) Googen gets turned into Goojen or Hugen, or Hugington, when anyone asks how Harley is, we always just answer "Huge." or a running joke with my husband and I, if one of us is home and the other is out, and we call eachother to check in, we ask things like "How's the size of the dog?" the other will answer huge..cuz he is. Googie Face is pretty much the common name used.

I like to give him belly rubs and he will roll over and take it, all whilst baby talking and asking "Whose Mama's Big Baby Boy??"

If Harley is licking himself, or me and I have to "yell" at him to stop, his name is Licky McLickster.

Sometimes he gets called "Eh Dog" I don't know if anyone watches SouthPark, but there is an episode, ( you all might think i am crazy...and this may be true) where the local chinese resturant owner is hired to build a wall (great wall of china ref) to keep out rapists, criminals etc....well again ref great wall, a band of mongolian always come to break down the wall. Well he is going to pour sweet and sour pork on their heads, it ends up on his head and it hardens so he can't move....a passing stray dog walks way, and in a quite stereotypical chinese accent, with his head hardend in sweet and sour pork he says "Dog, eh Dog, c'mere dog" and it so SO funny to me. That's how i get his attention sometimes. eh dog.

AND WHO HAS A VOICE FOR THEIR DOG?? Certain looks they give you, or actions, you just have to verbalize it for them. I often get told "Mom, I'm a good boy mom, and I love you mom." He likes to say mom over and over.

We need to have kids soon, cuz I am seriously obsessed with Harley...luckily all our friends only have dogs too, who are their "furry children" and they have the same type of thing...random nicknames and antics..

I keep thinking of more!! He rarley gets called Harley, unless he is being told a command or getting reprimanded.

He is Regal Beagle or Regal Eagle, cuz Dobermans are just so regal!!

Googenmeister.

If we are on a walk and he stops to sniff something for too long he is Sniffy McSniffster.

He likes to pee on everything during his walks so he gets called PeePee Head, "C'mon PeePee Head" or Tink.

oh oh oh... I just remembered what one of my neighbors nicknamed Sofia

The Barroness Vonne Stubblebutte

DobieMom... I don't think you're obsessed with your regal beagel Eagel. Who sometimes goes by the name of McSniffster. No not at all..now if you were rubbing his belly and asking him who's big baby boy he was...I might think... wait.. .... nevermind

Speaking of a McLickster - I often ask Red if he provides towels with his baths. Princess on the other hand is very selective - I do get to get a quick flick of the tongue. Red is known to my friends as the "Attack Tongue".

These are all pretty funny!

Ginger is very stingy with kisses. My husband does this ritual with her breakfast and dinner.  He kneels on the floor with her and makes her sit.  Then she has to give him three kisses, which he counts out.  It never changes after hundreds of times doing this.  She'll bark and fuss, go get a drink of water so she's slopped, come back, sit down and eventually comply because she knows she won't get her dinner until she does. When we're just hanging out, we'll purposefully ask her "kisses?" and she'll turn her head away ever so slightly.  We'll beg her just to mess with her and I know she takes pleasure in not doing it. She is a pistol!

It's cloudy and rainy here. Ginger is in a snit because I am posting.  (She doesn't like it when I'm on the phone, either.)  Life doesn't get much better (although it sounds particularly nice where you are, Kate!).

It's hot and muggy here - miserable. During the summer months, I try to hibernate in the house. I had a heat stroke while in the Okeefenokee in 1979 and have not done well in the heat ever since.

Princess decided this evening that she was going to be a lap puppy, all 70 pounds of her. She crawled up into my lap unassisted and on her own. She then snuggled up against me and tucked her nose under my right arm. If she had laid down, she would have been like Cindy who used to do that. I had to coax her down after a bit. Red was looking jealous and there's no room for a 100 pounder in my lap, with or without the 70 pounder.

Awwww, I love it when they snuggle, although 70 lbs. is a baby Huey!
