It's been a while since I have posted any pics of my lil girl, so here they are!!  Been having quite the time, Dakota has become quite the lil outdoorsy girl.  We've been doing some hiking in the mountains, and she is really at her best when she can just run full out, and go explore.  We've been doing very good with finding various items that i've hidden, she will poke the item with her nose and sit when she finds it.  Seems like everything we try, she is good at, and she is the most amazing puppers ever!

Enjoy!

That look would melt anyone's heart. If it didn't it would because they didn't have a heart. Thanks for sharing all of them with us.

Thanks guys!  The one with her out in the field, looking back over her shoulder at me was when we went to look at some property in upstate ny with a buddy.  110 acres, 2 lakes, trout stream, woods, and open fields.  She was in absolute heaven!  Everyone couldn't believe that I could just let her run around and not be too worried,(other dogs were left home... should tell you about that lol )  but we looked at 4-5 properties, and her recall never failed once.  She loves being out in the open, and she goes into super obedient mode.  Even walking through the woods, a simple let's go brings her running back.  Still, every day, she never fails to amaze me with how smart she is, and how well behaved.    Now we're just waiting to see how she likes the snow!

Her look in the one in front of the fire says....Oh daddy thank you thank you for lighting this warm cozy fire...I'll love you forever.

Just a thought.....since we all love sharing pics of our kids maybe we could start a new forum topic for everyone just to post pics of there kids on there.  So there all in one place for everyone to enjoy!

Yea, she LOVES sitting in front of the fire!  Definitely one of her favorites!  If there's a fire lit, good chance she's laying on her pillow right in front of it...  If she's not on one of our laps!

Thanks!  She's actually quite small, a little under 19" at withers.  I don't think she's going to get too much bigger, if at all at this point though.  Her body has completely changed over the past few months though.  She's a very happy pup too, tail is always up and wagging!

She's beautiful!!  You must be so proud!!  Do you have any idea as to what she might be crossed with?  Her fur looks like it's a bit thicker than the typica dobe, which I'm sure she'll appreciate once the snow flies!

Great pics, thanks for sharing!  I love the one where she's checkin out the water!

but but but... look at how deep her chest is getting and you cannot mistake those exclusive dobe-dots over her sweet eyes.. I'm thinking if Dakota was cropped and docked, there'd be no question of her background.. Kevin.. any thoughts from you and Steph?

Have you ever asked:

Most of her looks, attitude, behavior, etc. are all dobe, that's for sure.  Intelligence, problem solving, general behavior, is a no brainer.  Just her size, some of her coat, (she has a tan belly, different than her other markings, plus it's longer) etc. is certainly not dobe... There's other things that give it away as well.  If you look at her from a confirmation standpoint, she's like half and half when you really start to get into it.   I would say she looks pretty similar to a 3 month old uncropped pup.  But we have no idea what she is mixed with.  Her energy level is slightly lower than a purebred dobe as well.  (not by much! )

I've always been curious, of course, but it's really not that important to us, we love her, doesn't matter what her dna says!

I was just curious too, and of course it makes no difference!  Some of the best dogs I've ever known have been mixed breeds.  You've got yourself a beautiful girl, and by reading other posts she definitely sounds like one of the smartest pups!  :)

Dear Dakota,

Seems like ages since we've had a heart to heart, Diva to Diva chat.

Of course it's very simple to get Kevin to do anything and everything you wish.

All you do, is sit properly ( shoulders back, chest out.. you know the drill)

look directly in his eyes, and blink slowly and demurely in his direction ( study those nasty cats he keeps..although a royal pain, you can learn a few tips from them)

If that doesn't work, lower your body to the floor, while crossing one paw over the other and lay your head down on top of them, never breaking eye contact. Keep staring.. whoever looks away first is Alpha..

The Kong is yours!

Hi Sofia!    I have this silly man wrapped around my paw.  I can pretty much do anything I want, because I have found that my shrimp cocktail pose is magical, especially if I do it on his lap!  What a sucker.  I don't even have to do anything, just walk over and sit on him.  Next thing you know, he forgot why he was mad at me!  Silly humans are so easy.  I have him trained to take me outside, play with me whenever I want, give me treats, he's so simple.  I trained him so when I sit down, he has to come give me some loving, and I can get him to drop whatever he's doing by putting my head on his lap.  Only took about 3 tries for him to learn that one. So far, in just a few short months I'm pretty impressed with how the training is coming along.  He learns very quickly, and very rarely makes mistakes.  When he does something wrong, I try to take it easy on him, because I know he doesn't really understand yet.  We still have a few issues to work on, but overall I couldn't be happier with my human!  Thanks for all of your hhelp and tips, they have worked beautifully so far!

Your long lost cousin,

Dakota

Sofia,

One concern I have with my human, he tends to sit in the "office" and just stare into space at this little thing on the desk...  I can't figure out how to stop him from doing this.  He'll just sit and stare for a while, and sometimes he'll start laughing, or say "that's cute".  The only thing that works is when I stick my head on his lap, and look at him with super big eyes, like this:

If I catch him in time, I can get him to not go sit and stare...  But if I don't catch him, he'll just sit there for a while, it's like he's in a trance... I guess this is fine when it's just us, but I don't want to be embarrassed when I have my friends over.  I'm not sure what to do.

Love,

Dakota

Hmmm Dakota.. that does seem to be a problem with a lot of our humans. What's with that?

I truly enjoyed your letter and your progress is enough to make me sit up and throw out my chest( which is quite formidable if you haven't' noticed) and dober-grin with pride

As my first protege I have to say I couldn't be more pleased. You've come along in your Diva training just as I thought you would and it's with great affection I just want to guide you a little further.

With Royalty comes responsibility. Your mission here on earth is to love, protect and cherish Kevin and Stephanie with all your great heart.. The cats can go take a flying ____ oops.. not very lady like is it..? sorry..

They will give you shelter and nourishment, adoration ( natch) and the tools to achieve greatness. In turn you will honor them and respect their habits, which I know seem a bit odd and some times amusing ( read: that funny looking box your Dad stares at) Your friends will understand as that's what we do best.

So go my little one. Wrap them around your paw, bat your beautiful eyes, lay your sweet head on any available lap.. They eat it up and will be yours forever.

I look forward to another progress report in due time

P.S. If you can manage a disdainful snort..( took me months to perfect it) That will do wonders! The look on their faces and the smiles it produces is worth the effort!! Work on it.

Thanks!  I snort sometimes when they make me practice laying down too much...  Why would I have to practice laying down, how stupid do they think I am?  And sitting??  Please!  I'll have to try working on that snort, maybe they won't make me lay down so much if I snort before I lay down!
