Hope everyone had a great weekend! It was just me and Rubes so there were an epic amount of snuggles happening (didn't hurt it was cold and rainy all weekend).

Rubie is just getting through her first heat and although we didn't have any incidents at home with her acting differently, we've been avoiding the dog park so she's getting restless. We did take her yesterday and it seems she's conveniently forgotten her recall skills so we'll be making sure to reinforce that in the coming weeks. I know there is a lot of debate about how long you should wait to get them spayed (vets say 6 mos, a lot of 'dog' people we've spoken to say 18-24 mos and it seems like ther as many opinions as ther are dog owners) but not sure the BF wants to deal with wiping bloody dribbles off the floor again so we'll see. Happy October!

My recommendation on spaying is to let them go through one heat, then wait 3 months and spay at the point that should be the middle point between heats. This timing will give you the best chance at avoiding spay incontinence. There really is no need IMHO for them to go through more than one heat - it is not like waiting for a male dog to mature.

Yeah, I think we'll look into getting that scheduled for early next year. You want to do what's best for them but literature is contradictory and there are so many opinions! I also don't want to put her through any more weird hormone spikes.
