This is getting bad and I could use some ideas. Seriously, Axel has outsmarted all of us. I took him back to the vet and he looked at his knee. He said it didn't look too bad and he only removed one staple but loosened two more so his assistant removed the loose staples so there wouldn't be any foreign matter. Keep him on antibiotics and keep it clean. These are things I can do . I can also keep him seperate me from the other dogs . So I take him home and put him in his kennel. I'd take him with me but I had to go to physical therapy because I'm rehabbing a bum knee. Well I'm gone 1 1/2 tops and when I get home Axel has inverted his cone so now it looks like a skirt and he's opened his knee. By this time my vet is closed. I use the emergency number. My normal vet is on vacation so this doc is new too me but slowly becoming my new BFF. I sent him a pic and yes , he's going to need it stitched. It'll happen Monday . I then went to tractor supply to see if they had a better cone. I got a different one and I pray it works. This doesn't need to be so hard. Say a little prayer for Axel and me. The vet said he heard dobes were smart but this is a first for him too.

You need a serious big boy hard plastic cone.  I think this came from Petsmart.  This one is semi transparent so Zeke could still maintain a little vision.  Nobody was too happy with setup, but it accomplished the purpose.  Had to remove it for food and water.

I now have the exact cone as dogman but it's not working either. Axel is beating the crap out of it by banging it on everything. I got the largest one PetSmart offers and his nose is just before the end and his tongue and his double jointedness is working against me. I'm seriously at my wit's end. The only time my eyes aren't on him is when I'm sleeping. I'm not getting much sleep. I'm taking him to my regular vet tomorrow. He's been on vacation. I'll keep everyone posted.

You might have to get some meds to calm things down.  Around here there are emergency vets to go to on weekends, though they are expensive.  Hope things work out.
