Hello,

I just wanted to take a moment to say hi and comment on an excellent new tool, in this forum, for the Doberman community.I'll be bringing home my 4th Doberman puppy in the last 17 years very soon. It's been 7 years since I brought home my last one and I've been looking to see what new things might be out there for us Doberman people.I've been browsing this forum over the last few weeks for new tips and ideas about caring for, and raising a Doberman puppy.I've enjoyed the posts and pictures of all the beautiful Dobes on here, and I've added a few of my own that I was able to find.

My new little boy is named Brody. He's just over 8 weeks old and will be coming home on 9/20 after a brief extra stay with the breeder while his ears are done.I've had both cropped and uncropped Dobes and I must say I prefer the look of cropped ears.I feel bad, but look what we humans will do for vanity.Anyway, thank you all for the interesting posts and I'll try to return the favor when I can, with my own tips and advice from my years of 'Dobe' experience.

Patriot - welcome to the forum. My condolences on Jake. I know how tough it is to lose a Dobe that you have had for a long time. I got my first male Hand (also a red) as an 8 week old puppy in June, 1984 and lost him to kidney failure in Nov, 1995. He was my constant companion through 4 houses in that time frame. Each one is unique, but the ones with us a long time leave more memories.

Hopefully, you will have Brody in a long meaningful relationship.

So glad you've decided to join this forum. There are so many people here that love the breed just as much as you do and are so willing to help with any questions or concerns you might have. You  have a lot more experience with Dobies that some of us do...please feel free to share.

Much love and lots of welcome

Hullllllu to u all! My dobe is not purebred so you may not appreciate me being a member, however, have many canines over the last 50 years, I believe they all deserve love and our devotion!  I got my Dobie mix quite by accident!  I have a 30 yr old daughter(black labs) and a 12 yr old son who is now mature enough to have a pet.  Long story short - in July, we bring home the puppy from the shelter that simply stole his heart...male puppy, very small beedy almond shaped eyes with the most inquisitive cock to his head when you speek to him, a red nose with black on the sides and the strangest little triangles on his chest and butt!!  First comes paper training, and I've never been successful at this and most were inside/outside dogs as they grew, so like everything in life...it all worked out.  We used a newspaper to get the scent on the first "accident"    ...this puppy trained himself after that- simply becuz HE GOT IT!!!! He knew what to do.....   Goooooood puppy! The neighbors are saying "oh he's gonna be a small one.  No bigger than Mike (Sanchez)  - who is my SchipperkeXGods love pound puppy of 2.5 years, who plays with Ozzy constantly on our little "ranch" and is teaching him how to be a good dog -- (Mike also talks, and twirls becuz he is a bright fella also!).  AFter a couple weeks of getting to know Ozzy, I began his sit training...  he already had it figured out from watching Mikey!  So im thinkin to myself something is going on here...hhhmmm!  wonder what kind of dog this is???? Not just ANY pound puppy, this one. . .  In the past i've had blac labs, dalmation (purebreds), border collie, sheep dog, Standard Poodle(purebred) and Akitas, also purebred.  The regal poodles and the Akitas were certainly very very intelligent, but this dog is wise!!???? Thus begins the computer research and the growing spurt....suddently the puppy is getting a good diet and starting to look like"Clifford the Big Red Dog"   and THEN i see the scissor bite...My best friend 20 yrs ago had a rust dobe and I always admired her and thot i would love to own one some day....GOD IS GOOD!  I am blessed to have a a bouncing baby boy .. . .and I do mean bouncing!!!  who has alll the dobe personality traits and these long spindly legs...(the other half maybe German Shepherd, maybe chow chow cuz black spot under tongue) - as he has a soft black saddle down his bac  leading to a classic uncut dobe tail...with just the right/curl arch.  I can see him growing every day...he is now snuggeled up to my feet under the computer table.....it has taken him a while to begin to REALLY bond I think bcuz he was a roaming stray when the dog catcher got him...thus begins our Dobe adventure...now where did my garden shoes go????  Shalom -- Ruth and Noah

Eversole - Welcome, we are not purebred snobs here, there are several members who are owned by a Dobie mix as well as those of us who are owned by purebreds, and some who are owned by rescues that appear to be full blood. If you wonder why I say "owned by", just wait, you will find out by and by.

Andrea20 - Welcome also. I was fortunate to have had a Fawn decades ago and have actually never seen another in the flesh, just pictures.

our girl is a mix, with what, have no idea... but her attitude, intelligence, and general behavior are purely dobe.  So don't feel "left out" about not having a purebred, there's a bunch of members that have mixes, and they are equally welcomed.
