Pet Profiles

Hey all, I am new to the forum. I just wanted to introduce my puppies.

This is Loki (13 weeks, almost 14).

And this is Phoenix (15 weeks).

Welcome, and cute pups :)

Are they both male? What made you want to get them at the same time? Same sex aggression can be a problem with this breed from what I have heard on the forums and read elsewhere. Littermate syndrome is also a point of concern, which I believe can occur with puppies of the same age who are not biological littermates. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable with this breed can comment or correct me if I am wrong.

Good luck!

Edit: I just saw your other post that one is a female, so that's good :) I would still talk to some of the more seasoned Doberman owners around here regarding littermate syndrome. Recently saw it in two Doberman turned into our local shelter who were picked up by a rescue. The male is skittish and afraid without the female, who totally overcompensates and is borderline aggressive. This is not how you want your dogs to be.

Sgourle, thanks! Honestly, I was stupid and did not research same-sex aggression, even though they are the opposite sex or even consider anything of that nature. It wasn't until after we brought them home and came across this site that I hear about it. We did crate them together at first but have since stopped and we don't allow them to eat out of the same food bowl. I also try to prevent them from taking each other's toys. I also try to give them separate time apart from each other to bond with them individually and to keep him from being dependent on her. Overall they do pretty well together and apart. In our heads, we were thinking they would be better if they grew up together, but afterwards, reading this forum, I'm second guessing our choice. I would love advice from anyone who does have two around the same age.
