Well I found two listings for Doberman puppies and after talking to them, one of them said they would not sell me the dog unless I could come and meet them and the puppy's parents first (they were not pro breeders, they were two genetic Dr.s that let there dogs have puppies. They were expecting 6 and got 8, so they had two unaccounted for and i was lucky to get one). I knew that was the one for me. When I drove there was a huge (the father) black dobie in the front yard. I started to have second thoughts becaus he was very intimidating. The put him in the back and I came into garage were two little blue puppies were playing. We talked for at least an hour and they kept asking if they could introduce the dad to me... Still too nervious. Then they said well meet the mom. I never knew she was in the garage. She walked up to me smelled me and sat right next to me. The owners finnally got me to let them bring the dad in and.... Well he ran straight at me (at this point I was not going to get a doberman) and began licking me and rolled on his back and was just a 150lb puppy. That was what the owners wanted me to see, that they were harmless.

She has been wonderful. We have attended Puppy School and now we are doing pet therapy training. We still have the typical problems... pulling on the leash ect..

This website is great. the people are very thoughtfull.

Would love to see more pictures of Harely.. I've only  met one blue dobe in my life. She was in a dog park in Pasadena CA and took air like you wouldn't believe sailing after a frisbee.. the most amazing streak of blue lightening I've ever seen!!

I love the fact that you're doing pet therapy with her.. They are so intune with people and sense the most incredible things.. Good job!!

JWC0037 - most definitely welcome. I love the picture of Harley on his back on the couch with his head hanging down - so typically Doberman.

Your comments on meeting Harley's sire are also typical Doberman, as you must know by now with Harley. As strangers approaching his home his dut was to protect. Once you were invited in and "approved" by his humans, all was good. The unique aspect of the Doberman is they read you. If you are comfortable with the visitor and welcome them in, so will Harley. If the visitor makes you uncomfortable, Harley will position himself between you and will warn the visitor to stary where he is. I have seen this time and again. They truely do earn their keep.

BTW - This is the second Harley on this site. Interesting name.

Thanks for all the welcomes.. Actually Harley is a Female. I know the name fools people. She is amazing, Lady Kate she can jump like a deer. I have never seen anything like it. She is very friendly and everyone stops to see her. She does bark at everything in th back yard on the otherside of the fence. I will definitly be posting some more pics.

I have actually seen a young female with a running start, jump and clear a five foot fence. When she launced and sailed over the fence, it was poetry in motion. Obviously the over sized (like my 105 pound Red) cannot do that, but the ones that are around 70 pounds are amazing.

Another treat is to see one at full gallop. Now I get treated to this periodically when I take Princess and Red out back and let them run. There is an area about a acre in area they get to run and chase each other. (I have 4 acres total, some in woods).

Welcome from another new kid on the leash!  You're going to love this place.  So many nice folks and great advice and help.  The only problem I have is trying to meet and read everyone's posts!

Keep the photos coming :)

They seem to have weeks where they change daily, even morning to night!
