Howdy Y'all.

This is Spartan. He is 14 wks now and my first dobie pup.

We had adopted a blue dob that was 4 yrs old and had her till 13 yrs old.

We just had to have another in the family.

Spartan came home at 3 1/2 wks old because first time mommy quit feeding.

Had ears cropped at 12 wks. Vet doesnt like to crop until after 3rd round of shots to help prevent infection. Posting starting after stitches came out. Not going so great, the tips don't want to heal and the posts had rubbed sores in the bottom of both ears.

Are you taping into the canals ? If so don't. What tape are you using? I wrap the bottom of my posts with moleskin because my boy gets post rub that irritated his canals. With the sores at the tips put some gauze on them then wrap. Also baby powder on the backs of the ears will prevent hair loss.

And that really young to have gotten him from his mom and from his litter mates he missed some crucial learning curves from his mother and siblings such as bite inhibition. So hopefully everything goes ok with that. You'll have to teach him now. That's sad she stopped feeding him :/

Thanks for that info on baby powder. and yes the lady that was showing us did't use any gauze or anything in the canals. i even asked as i saw to do that on youtube vids. Just sticky side out on the whole post. Not going to do that again. I can do it better myself now anyways.

That's great yes do not tape into the canal that would hurt. For tape I use zonas by Johnson and Johnson its porous and works great.

what a precious baby! I like the crop style I think you will have an easier time getting them to stand. Please keep us posted.

Good luck with your baby - I will say that selling a puppy at 3 1/2 weeks because the mother stopped nursing them is horrible! By 4 weeks, most puppies are just about weaned onto real food anyway ( I make a mush from my puppy food soaked in water and mixed in a food processor with milk replacer). Any decent breeder knows that they are going to spend some bucks on feeding puppies from age 3 weeks till they go home at 8-12 weeks. Puppies need to stay with their litter till at least 8 weeks of age to learn so many things. I'd hazzard a guess that you did not buy from a good breeder - so make sure you do a ton to socialize your puppy.

These are 3 week old puppies getting their first meal - within about a week they are almost done nursing on mom.

Socializing is going fine. We have a year old terrier mix and currently puppy raising/potty training a 10 wk pit for my wifes grandfather. Spartan is also having play dates with his sister that some friends of ours have. They look like identical twins.

He could care less about the cats he has been around and warms up to strangers quickly.

HI there and welcome to the Forum.. He's a darling little guy and I'm glad things are going so well..

Please be careful with the socializing with other dogs until he has  all his shots.. He's got a couple of strikes against him starting out so soon.. but sounds as if you've got things under control.

It just makes me so angry to hear about breeders who make excuses regarding the dam not nursing so they have to find a 'suitable' home for the pup. . 9 times out of 10 it's not true.. they're just lazy and don't want to be bothered with the slurry necessary to insure a healthy baby.

I think you're going to give Spartan a good chance of becoming a well balanced dog.. Almost like a rescue of sorts... bless you.

Please keep posting progress with his ears.. I've never been through the cropping process so all I can offer is" Patience.. patience patience."

Saludos from sunny Mexico

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Here is an update. Spartan had a good 4 days posting ears with a foam block. i've uploaded more pics in the album. Im really liking how its going. I was not to confident about tring to get show ears and my wife doesnt like the super long look, but we agreed to have a medium show blend. Hopefully not as long in the posts with a little show class. 4 mths old now.

Welcome to the forum!!

keep in mind that socializing needs to be more than just a couple of close buddies, not having been with mom till 8-10 weeks can lead to issues down the road....when all the vaccines have taken hold be sure to get the little guy out and about meeting and greeting lots of people and keeping a safety eye on greets with strange dogs for sure cause there is still parvo and some other diseases you don't want to be around, but lots of socializing and obedience training in classes might help to meet new and different dogs - I don't recommend dog parks as alot of those people are idiots and do not watch their dogs and it could lead to a bad experience that your pupster might not get over.....people are too busy with their heads in the phones texting to watch their dogs interactions - that's just my two cents worth on dog parks.....not to mention eating stuff they shouldn't and so forth.

Good luck and post pics

We have a group that is very active with AKC events and training. Im planning on meeting them and getting started. The dog parks I thought i would use on the outside and on a leash or long line for training with distractions. Im cautious with them also.
