Hello!

So Karma, as many know, is a Dobe mix. We had thought she was a lab mix but as she gets older and bigger, she is making us think it may be different.

One very unique trait is her curly tail. Is this normal for dobe puppies? I posted the pics so maybe we can have fun trying to figure this out. My husband thinks her dad was some kind of chow mix. :)

Here is Karma's tail close up. It is this curly all the time.

Here she is at full view. She is very active and the only time I could snap the picture was when I caught her stealing the bigger dog's food.

Looks like she may be a chow mix... especially with that pretty reddish hue in her fur. Skyler is dobe/lab/shar-pei... be prepared for an intense, lovey dog... with maybe a little shepherd in there!!! lol She looks a lot like my friends dog, Rocky... she bought one of those dna tests online and the results came back that he is Dobe, Rott, GSD, english mastiff, and, strangely enough, pomeranian. Not that I put a lot of stock into them, but if you don't know, those little dna tests can give you a little insight into your dogs lineage.

CURLY TAILS UNITE!!! lol

Cute!  What color is her tongue?  Most of the time Chows and Chow mixes have black tongues.

Wolfgirl:

I will def look into the DNA! I simply ADORE her little curly tail and yes, she is very very needy! She loves attention and loves to be talked to...yes, talked to! She will just sit there and look at you as if she knows what you are saying. She cries when she wants attention but she does have a temper on her. She is Miss Sassy Pants around here hahaha!! Not aggressive but will bark at anything and anyone who walks near our yard and even barks at dogs at the vet...ugh! But she is such a riot!

Funny you mention her coat because her coat was all black when we brought her home at 7 weeks and she only had a little white strip on her upper chest. As she is growing it is getting that redness.

Ginger:

Her tongue is pink. We thought that as well, but its pink. :)

Hi

As you probably know, tail docking is now banned in the UK so you see lots of Dobes with tails and I have seen a few that curl right over like this.   Some have nice tails that sit like this but others have tails that just don't seem to know what they are supposed to do.   I'm getting used to Dobes with tails now though.   Our little girl was born in Ireland and was docked but I believe it is being banned there too.

Scotty,

Wow I had no idea about the banning? I am in the states so it is ok here. We got Karma at 7 weeks and her owners had no intention to sell the dogs or dock or crop anything. They just wanted them gone since Karma was part of an unexpected litter.

That is good to know! Zo is over 1 year old and is also a Dobe mix (dobe\rotti) and his tail was not docked. His is the "confused" tail you described..hahaha! It lays like a wide "U" and very awkwardly. We laugh because he wags his tail and knocks over everything in its path..LOL!

So far most dobes you see in Ireland have docked tails and floppy ears. The Bill that will ban tail docking is in the Committee stage at the moment and generating a lot of controversy however it looks likely that it will go ahead and the Veterinary Council of Ireland has ruled that tail docking should not be performed by a veterinary practitioner, be that for cosmetic or so called ‘prophylactic’ reasons in working dogs, and any vet performing this procedure is liable to investigation and censure by the Council. Thus if a vet is that if asked to dock puppies’ tails by a client they must refuse to do so. So far though, most of the puppies being sold in Ireland have docked tails so not all vets can be complying with this rule....

Other options could be shar-pei, basenji, the chow, finnish spitz, lots of options for curled tails would have to see the face to see if there is anything that stands out. What a cutie though!!! I bet it's cute to see that tail wagging :))

Tali: her face is more Dobe than anything, I think. Her ears are big and floppy too. it is so funny to see it wag because it stays curled unless you are giving her a bath...thats when it will fall as flat as it can since she strongly dislikes baths. Check her pictures out and see her "widdle face"! :)
