Hey everyone! so, there's ONE week left till I go pick up Bo, and i am soooooo obsessed and excited and pretty much time isn't passing fast enough. i've exhausted my laptop with all of the research i've been doing trying to prepare and trying to pass the time. All that's left to do is do a final prep of the house, get the last bunch of toys and supplies, and of course pick up that beautiful pup. i can't wait to give him a happy & healthy life with tons of love. How did  you guys stay sane in the days leading to getting your new pup? its like waiting for your due date to come around when your pregnant.

Never having experienced the condition referred to in your last sentence and only have had to wait to pick up a puppy once, I'm not sure I can give much guidance.

Is this your first dog as well as your first Doberman?

hi zak_n_bo

i know how it feels to get a new pup to home. i felt the same way 45 days back when i got spicey home(not exactly as u refered in the last sentence lol ) give your pup whatever she/he wants .and a last line of advice what i learned from this community is give your little cuty pup highly nutrition food with a little love.

last but not the least "welcome to the community"......

this won't be my first dog (my husband's), but defn. my first dobie. as to the last comment, i have a 1.5 year old son and another one on the way, (plus a puppy) so i'm kind of in that "momma mind" mode.

Varun, thank you for the welcome. i love that name "spicey". does it fit his/her personality?

zak_n_bo - congratulations on the 4 footed addition and the pending family addition. You better inform your husband that he is going to have to be hands on with one or the other.

congrats, and good luck!  Dobermans are the best, make sure to give them the love they deserve, and ask those questions!

That's going to be quite the handful, a baby, a newborn on the way, and a pup...  hope the hubby is prepared for that one, because the pup is going to be immensely more work than the kids for a while lol.  It's easy to forget about the dog in such a busy home, just remember that we affectionately call our dobermans velcro dogs, and they need lots of attention, and like to always be around.  I would recommend setting some type of schedule of who does what and when, will make things much easier.

Hey!! Two new babies!! Congratulations and lots of good thoughts going your way on all accounts..

Having a 1.5 y.o. AND a new pup AND of course a new little one is going to be a huge effort.

We'll be here for you with any questions or concerns re: the busyness ( it's a word) you'll be experiencing.

Welcome to the forum and we're looking forward to a lot more news. when is your 'human' baby due?

hey everyone! i'm sorry i haven't been active recently. I finally picked up "Max" (short for Maximus) about 2 weeks ago. oooh yea, my husband and I could NOT settle on the name (even tho i wanted bo) so we finally had a 3rd party decide in a completely non partisan fashion (my son picked the shortest fry which was "max"). lol. well, Max is a suiting name for him i think.

anywho, he is the sweetest and goofiest lil pup ever! its actually quite funny because he's supposed to be a big bad doberman and all he wants is to have his tummy rubbed. haha.

things are pretty hectic here at home between my son and Max. they love each other a bit too much i think because they both cry and whine when its time to nap or be apart. but it is rather cute. he hasn't cried through the night since his second day so that was a relief. He's learned "No Bite" pretty quick, and "Come" and now we're working on "down" and "sit". we've got good days and bad days with walking on the leash. Its like he'l listen until he wants to do something else, and then he's doing his best to drag me forward the rest of the way - no matter what i do. he certainly is rather bull headed sometimes.

Lady Kate, i'm due to deliver Dec. 14. So, i'm about 7.5 months along now, and i've never wanted or needed more sleep!

"Max" is a great name, too.  The 'no bite' command is a very good one to start out with, since he will be playing with your 1.5 yr old.  Welcome to the site.  Photos of kids and dogs are a requirement.
