Does anyones Dobie sit on them?!?!?

Rex, is literally a velcro strip to me (which I've read they are all like this), But I find it hilarious that if I sit down (on the floor), he will come sit on my lap.

I have never had a dog do this before and other people get a kick out of it! I was just curious if this was a trait of Dobies.

Yes my dobie likes to literally LAY ON TOP OF ME. She does this on the couch and especially in the bed. I have a queen sized bed and Brea likes to lay right in the middle of the bed. When I tell her to move, she gets up and then lays right on top of me. I have never slept with any living being that is such a bed hog. I love my girl dearly but she can be a real pain sometimes lol.

Chevy used to always sit on me if I was on the floor. Now that she is older she will sit beside me and lean on me.

Rex, is a bed hog as well!!! I have to keep my bed up against a wall, he gets sooo close to me, I would end up on the floor! haha

I never really got the whole sitting on top of me thing!! I mean really you dont need to be that close to me :)

I just love having a doberman, there such a great breed!! so protectice, but yet sooo sweet and gentle with the family! Perfect dog in my eyes!!

Definitely. Tia isn't a fan of being carried, but Kayenne loves it, and I do still pick her up sometimes...Not outside anymore, but inside I'll tell her to "Gimme hugs" and she'll crawl up my body and I'll stick her on my hip...Because the dogs aren't allowed on the couches, she doesn't usually get a chance to sit in my lap, but I occasionally humour them and sit on the floor so we can 'have hugs' and play rough.

She's about as much of a lapdog as my little Skinny Dog is. Star jumps straight from the floor onto my back and sits on my shoulder like a wobbly-parrot. I don't think Kay could do that.

HAHAHA thats great! I dont think Rex, would like me carrying him, nor do I think I could carry him :)

Rex has never really been a jumper even at a puppy, which I'm so THANKFUL FOR!! I couldn't imagaine a doberman jumping up on me! AYAIYAI! But, he really doesn't like to get his front legs off the floor. He'll let you do it, like if I'm kneeling I'll put his arms on my shoulders, but he wont do it himself.

I can't beleive you can carry your dog, I'm still laughing about that!!! hahaha What a site to see :)

Brea also likes to lean on me . She'll lean on the people she likes. She also likes to put just her butt on the couch. I know other dobies do this and I get a kick outa it everytime. She looks quite comfortable as well.

Oh my gosh...yes! Chico isn't supposed to be on the furniture, but if I pet him while I am on the couch he slowly inches his way closer then he will jump up on his hind legs with his front legs on my lap or on my shoulders (he gives the most human like hugs) and slowly but surely he will get one leg up and then the other and he'll be on my lap. He thinks I won't notice if he does this step by step. I think it's endearing so I entertain him.

My B/T female sat on everyone's lap.  Especially new people or people afraid of dogs.  Daymian only gets part way on people.  He's just too big to fit.  But he is polite and waits to be invited.  What a gentle man.  However he tends to do the flop or drop manuver.  I think all his legs colapse at the same micro second so you get to feel a 5 or 6 on the richter scale earth quake.

Ginger lays right on top of me, too.  I love it!  She covers my face with her head, too.  If I try to move (so I can breathe!), she'll move too.  It's a game we play together.  She is so funny!

This is Shelbi on my husbands Link's lap.  She and I have a routine that we do so she can get in my lap, but we end up chest to chest, as she has to let me put her paws on my shoulders and I say "Hup Hup" and she uses her hinded legs to hop up on my lap, then of course the licking and hugging commences.

Just big lap dog puppies.

Rocky will sit and lean but we've never allowed him to sit on us.  He's just to big and his boney elbows really hurt when they dig in to you haha.

He is almost always in the same room and often will sleep with his back to me slightly touching but even he doesn't like to touch much more than that to sleep.

I wish I could say the same... Rex, wants to be right next to me all the time, Including when we sleep. I would wake up in the middle of the night sweating!!! I eneded up having to just use a sheet at night :) He's my heater!

We've never allowed him on our bed.   He earned his rights to a chair at about 6 months in the living room and the couch at about 1 year.   He's now allowed on the bed only if one of us is in it.  I usually go to bed before Tye so he'll hop up with me but he knows when Tye comes in he hops right off and goes to the couch.   2 people plus his 80lb butt is just too much for sleeping...

Him sleeping on the bed is my fault. I just wanted to snuggle with him when he was little. :) I'm very lucky he never got into to anything or had an accident, because he was never kenneled at night.  Shame on me I know. But I made sure the room, was puppy proofed and the door was shut :)

He wasn't every allowed on the furniture, but my mom would find him on the couches and she never had the heart to move him off, but becuase he is so big and we have a leather couch, he isnt allowed on them anymore.  Every so often will come home and there's little black hairs on the  couch and its warm in one spot! haha

He has a dog bed on all three levels of the house and uses those for the most part, but when it comes to bed time, he hops right up with me :)

Its just him and I right now, but if there was two, Plus him in my bed, he would have to booted to the dog bed. HA

Oh, Gingersmommy, you are so right.  Lots of nights I go out on the couch because of the 2 heating pads that sleep with us.

Tory will sit on the chair, sofa, bench, what ever ( see pics!) She has a back problem so she only sits when she can sit on something.  Tony is the first dobe I've ever had that doesn't back up and sit down, he does, however, lean on anyone who is handy.  Tony was the last one in bed the other night and when he couldn't find room to lay down, he got between Dave's legs and "plopped" down there.  I thought it was funny, Dave still hasn't recovered  ;)

Thank goodness Ben doesn't want to do this, good lord that would be terrible, hahahahaha, I would be squashed flat, he does snuggle but wants his own stretch out room.....whew more power to you all for being able to hold that much weight and boney legs poking you.....:))

Hickory67, love that picture!  That is one of my favorite things about Dobermans, they are like giant stuffed animals. I can do anything to Ginger and she will sleep right through it.

Yes, Deeks loves to sit on our lap where ever we are, chair, couch, you name it.  He sits on our lap and his front feet stay on the floor.  He is a goofball!

I love my big red dobie, we play on the floor... each member of the family has a little play time each night with him but... I don't allow lap dog sitting... or couch, chair ect... Not the bed either. I have invested a small fortune for his own dog beds in each room, for his comfort. He is to big to be up on stuff.

I know I'm a stick in the mud.

HAHAHA, no your not!!

I have never had a dog on the bed, furniture, lap etc. until Rex. and I have told myself I will never let another dog sleep with me. Your sheets are dirty, you have no room to sleep, and he has ruined our couch :(

Thankfully he doesn't do it much. Most of the time he just comes up and buries his head between my knees for me to scritch his neck and ears.

I love the pics! Rolo would love to be a lap dog and sits on me when I am on the floor he tries to jump on the sofa but is not allowed as our cats need a safe haven! He is getting so big now that he doesn't really fit and I have short legs so we don't make a good combo really!

Hickory67, that is a brilliant photo!

We decided that Monty would not be allowed on the furniture.  Didn't last long.  He even gets on it in the office. (those chairs aren't comfortable)

i was about to ask the same thing. our Leonardo is 9 weeks now, and whenever we are on the floor he comes and sit in our lap, i didnt know if i was getting to low into his zone and breaking the boundaries. but it is just to darn precious. now he even does it on the edge of his bed, or outside on the step into the door, like he needs alittle seat.

Tayoh is the biggest lap dog.. If I'm sitting in the floor, he's in my lap, either sitting or laying. If I'm sitting in a chair, he'll sit on my legs/feet. If I lay down, he'll sit RIGHT beside me, lay beside me, lay on top of me, or sit on me. Today, I was laying in the floor, and he sat.. on my head... and wouldn't move for like 5 minutes. All the while, I'm freaking out and throwing a fit. He just kindof looked at me like "what'd I do?" lol. I love it. (:

While it's unfortunate that the house rule has become "no dogs on the furniture", I encourage my pup to come cuddle with me whenever I plop down on the floor with him. He loves to curl up on my lap either there, or when we're in the car. I'm hoping he still likes to snuggle as he gets older.

When he can't get on my lap, he often likes to sit or lay down at my feet.

And I don't care what they say... my office chair is MY OFFICE CHAIR... I sometimes pick him up and let him snuggle while I am there, too, hehe.

Hehe, everyone's stories are so great!! My dobe is the same. I throw Charlie a toy and he'll come running back and just lay in my lap chewing on his toy. He's perfected the sense of letting me sleep in before it's time to go out in the morning. As soon as I roll over when I wake up, Charlie's face is right in mine letting me know that it's time for his morning bathroom break. Other days he'll just crawl to the top of the bed when I wake up and cuddle into my side. It's just too heartwarming :)

Sorry to post again so soon, but I had to share...

...last night during a puppy class, the trainer told us to sit on the floor and give our pups a couple feet of leash until they settled down. Everyone else's puppies eventually layed down in front of them, while Riley decided to back up and sit his rump down on my lap instead, everyone laughed and thought it was adorable.

hahahahaha too funny, I had a rhodesian ridgeback that did that too; and he got to where he would sit on the sofa that way he was not allowed on the furniture so he kept watching us and then one day he put his butt on the sofa and set his front feet on the floor and we had to let him stay there since we was trying to be human - he was a trip......dogs are so funny.....they love to make us laugh....

Dobes love to sit in your lap, or failing that, sit on your foot.

Princess will jump up in my lap (75 pounds) and Jake will climb up in my lap (80 pounds). Sometimes Jake will climb up when Princess is already there. Thank goodness it's a strong chair.
