Last night before I went to bed I went over to close the door on Mia's crate. However, she was half in and half out. So, I left her and figured my son would lock her in when he got home.  I get up this morning make the coffee, switch on the light and go over to open the crate door. It was wide open and there was Mia inside looking at me. OMG! I start scanning the house for destruction, nothing out of place! This is my goal to just leave the door open so she can come and go as she pleases, but 6 months is a little young.  So, she either did not know the crate door was opened, was too tired to chew something up, or I'm not giving her enough credit.  I think I'll close the crate a couple more months though.  She ran out the front door with my new tennis shoe and I had to chase her down, and that was before my coffee this morning. Gotta love her!

I tried leaving Ella out for short periods when she was about 9 months old. She did great for a while, I guess because there was enough newness to occupy her mind. Then she started being destructive again, so back to the kennel she went. I have an extra bedroom at my house, so now it's her room and she goes in there when I leave. She's been in her room for a couple months and hasn't torn anything up. She's 16 months old now.
