Well I just picked Athena up from the vet after her spay and gastroplexy.  At first she was absolutely crazy and I basically had to physically restrain her so she would hurt herself.  After we got home I gave her a little food and helped her on the couch and she could barely keep her eyes open and snuggled right in.  She is resting soundly and barely even looked up when the phone rang.  I am happy she is calm and relaxed wouldn't want her to pull anything open.  I am so glad she is ok...I was so worried and not going to lie still a little concerned.  I realized I definately can't have kids if I worry so much about my puppy! LOL  I'll keep everyone updated.

Thanks for updating.. You're a GREAT Mom.. Athena is good practice for you!!

I think you'll be surprised as to how quickly she'll recover.. We had Sofia spayed a year ago and it seemed like she was up to snuff and stuff within a week.. They are very stoic.. ( more so than I am, that's for sure)

Yeah...I am just glad she isn't fighting me too bad about staying calm, still, and relaxed.  She also had a gastroplexy on top of the spay.  A procedure where the sew the stomach to the body cavity so that her stomach can never twist (the dangerous part of bloat).  So her incision is about twice as long with a little more going on inside.

And as for kids I think I'll keep my for legged ones...they always love you always want to see you and it doesn't even matter if you didn't buy them a new toy.

Good Morning C_F~~

How is Athena today? ( you know if she's in distress, your vet can give you some pain killers.. not only will it releive her incison area, it will keep her calm)

Let us know how your girl is doing

Athena is doing pretty well.  She has mostly been sleeping and very attached to my hip...hopefully she'll let me get some work done today! (moving in 8 days)  I think she is having a hard time knowing when she has to potty.  Yesterday she had two accidents on her way to the door, I think she physically couldn't hold it.  And she has been asking to go out right after she came back in...like she feels like she still has to go.  Hopefully that will pass.  I always insist on pain meds whenever one of my kids have surgery...can't bear the thought of them in anymore pain then they need to.  I'll post some pictures of her passed out on the couch a little later.  Thanks for thinking of us!

Control is a problem right after some surgeries, for both animals and humans.

Well looks like Athena will be going to the vet in the morning.  SHe has a hard protruding lump right next to her incision about two inces long by one inch wide....doesn't look right to me but it doesn't seem to be bothering her

Good that you're taking her back..has she loosened some stitches?

No all the stitches are still in place, just the large protruding lump (almost like a hernia on humans just really hard)  she doesn't seem to be in any pain maybe just some discomfort.  So we'll see what the Doc has to say.

Just got home from the vet and he is not concerned with it.  Said it looks like some normal swelling...I asked him if it could be a hernia and he said no hernias can be pushed back in easily and then I asked him if it could be internal bleeding and he said that if it was it would most likely be softer and very bruised.  So he said he wants to see her again on tuesday.  She is acting pretty normal...laying on the floor devouring the greenie treat I just gave her.  Let you all know if something changes!
