I had a 13 year old Sheltie who passed away in February. I had gotten Ella about 2 months before Angel passed. The last picture I have of Angel is of her and Ella playing tug of war. It was taken on my phone and kind of blurry.

I love the video. Before long Athena is going to out grow dharma and give her a harder time.

Thank you. It was really sudden and she was active and happy until the night she passed. She was my first dog. I got her when I was 6. Losing her was really hard but having a puppy to take care of helped make things easier.

Hah---love the way Athena puts her big ol' foot on Dharma to try to hold her back.

Be careful, though, this is how Ziva and my little terrier Lilly started out. Playing tug of war, each one wanting desperately to "win the game".....then when Ziva got more than twice the size and weight of Lilly, and Lilly did her little growly thing in Z's face, telling her "Bring it on, Big Stuff"....Ziva was glad to oblige and came back at her with teeth and the fight was ON.  Not a big fight, but a fight just the same. Lilly is the ONLY one of my 4 "Littles" that ever seriously challenged Ziva.  The others either ignore her or lick her face and sleep on her and just basically love her to pieces.  It took me six months of separating Z and Lilly during play, removing all toys that they love to fight over and monitoring them like a hawk before i could slowly allow them to start playing together again.  And still, "tug" is not a game I allow them to play together.  Not saying that all dobies will react that way, just saying "watch for the signs".  I know lots of people that have big dogs that play tug with their smaller dogs and there is never an issue between them.  Hopefully, your Athena and Dharma will come to a mutual agreement that it's just a game, and can enjoy playing without it turning ugly.  I hope so.  :)  They are very cute together.  One of my favorite things is big dogs and little dogs getting along together.

Thanks for that advice . I do monitor there play time. And watch any agression Actually I have to make dharma the boston behave sometimes cause she gets aggressive. She is alpha so far to Ahena. My Ananda who passed away was always gentle natured and never bit at anyone but I did always watch and was careful even then.. They have to go out to potty and thats when play time starts. At 5 oclock or before its a "I have to go play' time or they drive me nuts. I hope Athena never is an agressive girl but so far shes sweet as pie of course shes a baby yet but many times there personilities start even young.

You didn't, by any chance, know the story of Andrew Lewis, do you?His dog has perfectly healthy & happy, but died at the age of four. Andrew discovered it was his dog's food that killed him. No lie, it's a true story.

Diamond dog food is what fed for years and You might see my post of my album on photobucket. Never had problems but thinking back I did have another dog die of bloat but it was almost instantly . I think hers was from water. It was a hot day and I went outside to fill up the dog water buckets and its kinda cold coming from the well. Tasha was one that ate very fast as well as ate fast. She drank like crazy,. . I went in house for maybe 2 min walked back out and she was on her side with her belly big as a barrel and she was dead. I know water can bloat and kill now then just food. so be careful. giving very cold water to a hot dog. maybe?

It reminds me how hard it is to just relax and be at peace with my new puppy. I have had so many dogs I still grieve over and miss and I hate it when I have to let them go .. MY mind says its part of life but the more it happens the harder it is to let go. But I do. Sometimes I hug Athena and Anada comes up in my mind and I cry a bit .. But thats part of the grieving process I know. Its been only 2 months since she crossed. But I dont believe that they are gone forever which is a plus. There spirits are with me always now.. :}
