Hi.  I just found this site today while looking through some doberman information I pulled up through Google. My name is Paul, I live in Indiana, and my doberman is Ziva.  She just turned 1 yr old on the 17th of September, so even though she is as big as a moose, she's still a puppy.   I'm working with her every day after I get home from work, and on weekends, because we have an appointment this coming Saturday to take the AKC C.G.C. test.  I'm 99.9 % confident that she will pass the test.  She is a very sweet and gentle dobie---unless she sees a squirrel....or a cat.

Hi Ziva's Dad; welcome to the site.  Your girl is a beauty!  She must be a good girl to be taking the Canine Good Citizen exam - I am impressed!  They are so intelligent and love to learn and please that they are just ripe for training.  Good luck on Saturday - keep us posted!

Thanks for the warm welcome!  I have looked around through a lot of this site for the past couple of hours and there is a wealth of information here! LOVE IT.  Yes, Ziva (sometimes I just call her "Z") is very well behaved.  We have 4 other dogs at home, all small terriers, and our last dobie passed away just a little over a year ago from cancer.  Ziva was never intended to be a 'replacement' for my beloved Darmok, but even with other dogs around, my house seemed empty without a doberman running around in it.  So we looked up breeders that had puppies available and went to check her out and totally fell in love with her parents and with her when she was 8 weeks old.

Welcome to the forum Ziva's dad. I cant wait to hear how your CGC test goes. I think it is fantastic that you have taken the time to do this with your girl. We do it with all of our dogs. The last one passed hers at the young age of 6mo. I'm not so sure her son, my 9mo old male could do that right now but he will be going through that class in Jan.

It's hard to tell from your picture if Z is black, red, or blue. Please let us know  how your test goes and good luck you will do fine.

Thanks, everyone. Ziva is black and rust, that photo happened to have a very bright sunbeam shining down on her head, and I thought she looked like she had a halo.  LOL  If I can figure out how to add gallery shots, I have a ton of pics of her, from 8 wks old till now.

Hey NCIS fan!! welcome to the forum. Ziva is an absolute beauty.. I love the picture of her tracking.. It should be entitled. "Workin' on it boss!"

Please keep posting pictures and stories. I know she cannot take the place of Dar, but you know what.??? She might just help fill the hole in your heart. Give her a chance.. she will with you!

Ziva's Dad - I bet the ankle bitters were surprised when that little puppy started growing stilts. But looks like they get along well. I love the pic of her on the couch with her two buddies laying on her. She is a beauty.

I know from experience the hole in the heart will never close completely, but the new girl will make her own way. We can tell from the posts that she is already doing that. Each one is unique in their own way.

There will be times that she will do something that will trigger a memory of Darmok. You won't be saddened, but the memory will come back in warm feeling. Every once in a while I will call Red, "Hans" who was my first red male, and whom I lost at the age of 11 1/2 some 15 years ago. Red at times is a goofy as Hans was at times, and is always as loving.

Ziva is so beautiful!  I love all of the activities you have her in...we are looking for something to get Athena into but haven't found anything yet.  Did you find a breeder in Indiana or somewhere else?  We live in SE Michigan and its always nice to hear someone who found a responsible breeder in the area (who knows Athena might need a brother) Did she pass her test?
