Hi everyone! My boy is almost 3, and he has had bumps on his chin for over a year that get tore open whenever he plays with his friends. He then bleeds everywhere (not much but when he puts his head down he leaves his mark) has anyone else had this happen? I've tried Vaseline and neosporin at night but I've never seen a difference. Any tips?! Not something I'd take him to the vet for because they've never mentioned it and it doesn't seem to bother him. It just seems like the skin isn't as rough as the rest. Any tips??

I don't know how to add a picture to this so I will try to post in the comments.

My first thought is....are you feeding him out of a plastic bowl?  It kinda looks like a contact allergy. If you are, try feeding him out of a stainless steel one, and wash it after every meal.

He has a stainless steel bowl, I will start washing it after each meal and see if that helps!

My Tiberius will get those exact boo boo's.  It is usually caused from using a plastic water bowl.  Yes, even if you switch to stainless steel or use it already, wash that bowl every day.  I use Neosporin on Ti's chin and they go away pretty quick.

Yep, chin pimples.

Use stainless steel bowls and wash them frequently. The other thing to do is to wash your Dobes face after he eats.  My boy got chin pimples occasionally when he was young - even with SS bowls. I used the little alcohol wipes and wiped his chin with them after he ate for a few days - this always cleared it up.

Hello everyone one, I might just be late to this thread since I just joined, but this answer might still be helpful. I also had that problem chin bumps and they would bleed sometimes and I did take Duke to the vet...
She said right away that it was dog acne. To use people acne medication cream that has benzoyl peroxide in it like clean and clear. We treated it and it cleared it up that was months ago and she said that it comes and goes so it did come back recently. I'm in the process of clearing it out again and it's almost gone. My suggestion to apply it is when they are sleeping on their side. It dries on the chin within minutes and goes to work otherwise if you apply it when they are up like what Duke was doing is rub his chin on his chest and was taking the cream off right away... anyway I hope that this information can be of help to someone

Plan to give your suggestion a shot with my allergy girl and see what happens.

He chin looks looks pretty much just like the one in the picture above and the Apoquel she takes for the allergies does nothing for it. Fixes her feet just fine but does nothing for her chin.

This is for the moderators, I had written a pretty long answer on this last post. Using the reply button and half of my answer is showing again...the other half is gone... anything that I'm doing wrong?

A habit I got into due to the same problems on other sites / browsers -

I open up a notepad and copy / paste to there before hitting save or submit. If things go south I still have my text and do not have to type it out again.

I like the preview button at this site as well. You can see what the post will look like before you submit it.

Hi dobermanguy, okay I'll look for the preview button thank you for the tip! My other little trouble I'm running into is when I'm uploading pictures they are way to big...I have no idea on how to resize. Is it done in the imgur app? I crop them but still too big:( any tricks there? Thanks in advance.

Just an update on Duke's chin acne treated with clean and clear. I had forgot to mentioned that I also wipe his chin after his 2 meals with baby wipes fragrance free with aloe.

Okay I'm including the before and after pictures. This was about 3 weeks apart. At my visit to the vet last week for an unrelated problem now were dealing with a yeast infection in his ears. She told me that it won't hurt to keep applying the clean and clear still after it's gone to prevent from coming back again and again. This treatment was his second time around and this time it took somewhat longer to clear...let me know if your girl problem is getting better with the treatment please!

Before I could try that I took her back to the Vet for a checkup and discussion about how much Apoquel she was taking for her seasonal allergy stuff and we bumped up her dose a tiny bit. Still plan to buy some clean and clear soon and give it a shot but for right now with respect to my allergy dog that had the worst chin problems - A or so week of her being on the right dosage of meds solved all of her issues.

16mg a day just didnt seem to be cutting it (likely due to how freaking BIG she is LOL!) so we bumped her up to 24mg a day. A 16mg pill in the AM and a half pill in the PM for 24mg total per day. That seemed to do the trick and cleared up all of her skin issues fast. Can tell she just 'feels better' too as she has been wearing her big sister out wanting to play constantly!

This is her sisters chin:

Not bad but still a few pimples. This girl is where the clean and clear is going to be going first. Will be really happy if I can get that chin perfect without needing pills.

Hi Dobermanguy, yes bumping up the medication really cleared it up nice it's perfect. The clean and clear should work wonders for your other girl's chin, she has very little pimples compare to what Duke had. Thanks for the update and keep us posted!

It looks a lot better!
