Well tonight was another tragic issue - Pepe Le' Peu the chihuahua went out on leash with my husband to potty and began spinning in circles then lifted his right back leg and began screaming......carried him in the house, got him on the sofa rubbed his leg out seemed that his kneecaps were ok, he does has luxated patellas, so I wondered if it might be his hip, put him on the floor to see if he could walk it out he did put the leg down a couple of times but couldn't put weight on it, he then began screaming again, oh my god the screaming is unbearable...

Off to emergency - had x-rays, no kneecap issue except both legs are "out" equally so it's not the knees, no hip involvement either, so it appears it may be a cruciate tear !!!! in my little 16 year old!!!! OMG

Pepe has: a severe heart murmur, congestive heart failure, luxated patellas, seizures, and a collapsing trachea, he's blind now and hard of hearing.....and now this????

He has been sent home with meds to control pain and anti-infammatory drugs, if he is not trying to use the leg by monday or he is continuing to scream in pain there are only two options - surgery or euthanasia!!! his heart murmur most likely rules out surgery and we cannot expect a blind chi to learn to walk on 3 legs.....

please say a prayer that this is not the end for my little guy......I just had to lose 3 together less than two months ago seriously the universe could give me a break

Side note: while pepe was screaming Sampson was worried about his little buddy and was head butting my arms to try to make me stop touching pepe - he thought that I was making pepe scream, he was going to help his little friend......what a great boy sammie is.....how could anyone toss him away like they did, but that's their loss my gain.....

well update today - he has turned over several times in his crate without screaming he woke long enough for me to medicate him and get him outside to potty we have to carry him without hurting him which for me as a leg amputee on crutches is hard.....I did manage and was able to sit down on the porch step I had him rolled up in his blankie and was able to drop to the floor before he realized he wasn't being carried anymore, we scooted down the steps and he was able to stand to pee so that's good, he was trying to walk on it some - that's even better - I am praying that with alot of quiet rest he will heal and we won't have to say goodbye this week.....it looks a bit promising right now

I know what did it, I racked my brain last night wondering how since he has not jumped on the sofa or off it in several years now - but I do put him outside on his lead on the porch (due to the hawks) and he enjoys porch time while I clean but recently he has been jumping at the door and barking so he has over used those ligaments and tendons in his back legs so here's hoping we caught this before it became a runaway train......

but I do know this is the first sign of his demise that's just how it happens, you get little illnesses body problems etc. so this is our hint that he's really on borrowed time

Thanks for prayers and wishes for him he needs all he can get

Tal.. I am so sad to read this.. life just keeps handing you so much to deal with.. I hope our constant prayers for strength in coping; help just a bit..

I have an idea... why not use those potty pads they offer for little dogs.. that sure would save some wear and tear on YOU..in and out and up and down those stairs is dangerous with a bundled up Pepe..

I know you can't make him better.. but bless you're heart.. you will make him FEEL better..
