Everyday I see new members joining.  I hope that all the recent discord on here doesn't sway them.  We were all at some point new members, and were warmly greeted.  There are wonderful people here, very knowledgable ones, and mostly all avid doberman lovers.  We all have the love and protection of this most amazing breed first and foremost on our minds.  I lurked long before I ever joined, and learned an amazing amount about the breed.  That's what this forum is about.  Knowledge, love of our dogs, and sometimes some great friendships!

well said happydance!

I've been on a lot of different Doberman Forums in the past 10 years, and truthfully I don't see much in the way of "discord" here.  I'm not sure what people expect from a group of people - there will never be 100% agreement on anything - other than the fact that we all love Dobermans.  If I see someone who is doing something that is bad for the breed I love or dispensing information that I know to be bad/false/dangerous/just plain stupid... etc.... I will speak up.  I'm not looking to be be "mean", but truthfully I care more about the dog themselves than their sometimes thin skinned owners. Those who know me and some of the other experienced people on here know that we are not looking to create problems - and don't create problems on other forums we are on.

You don't have to present your information in a demeaning manner to make a point.  I correct people all the time who don't quarantine their dogs and walk them because I see parvo every day and I do NOT want people to have to experience that.

Educating people is far different than being rude.

Fitzmar, I don't think this was meant as a "we all like sunshine and rainbows and if you beat your dog that's OKAY" kind of thread.  More along the lines, that if you ask a question or are doing something with your dog, we aren't going to belittle or degrade you.  I have found your posts informative and very helpful and am glad that we have you on the Forum.  You're right, it isn't as snarky as some of the other Forums, but thats because we try really hard to keep it that way.

Absoultely Fitz, I agree. If anyone here sees something wrong, we will chime in.  Jess and I have been in the veterinary arena for a long time, you bet we'll post, and none of us will stand for abuse or stupidity in any way.  It was just to say a welcome to new members, and for them not to be scared off, like in other forums.  It's our way of educating them gently.

I just want to say that I thought I was welcomed pretty warmly, sure a few remarks beacuse my dog is not the usual dobie, but felt pretty welcomed regardless.

I was welcomed with great warmth - I was looking to get a doberman and wanted to get situated with a group before she came home so that I would instantly have a source of information and support for those days when you just don't know what went wrong. Sadly I didn't end up with my doberman I ended up with a Rottie and guess what - this group didn't care they were just as happy as if he were a doberman!!! And thanks to the suggestion from here I chose the rottie over the doberman for alot of reasons posted elsewhere. But I have never had anything but cheers and excellent information to draw from that is universal to all dogs and training. And now Benjaman is an honorary Dober dog yayayayaya having belonged to lots and lots of groups online and in person in the physical world I have not seen this amount of comradary and friendliness. It is amazing how people can get, when I was president of our car club we actually had people drive over 1 hour to a meeting just to complain about green ink in the newsletter! I threatened to get a stack of t-shirts that said "official member of the piss and moan club" to hand out to those folks. I definitely am happy to be a part of this group. Education, protection of the breed and then happy family. Everyone seems to have the same priorities - the dogs - which keeps things smooth and friendly.

I don't think I said welcome to whitedobelove or talisin - since this is a thread about new members...

Welcome!!  I've loved being on Gentle D.  Haven't been on a lot lately b/c we started back to school and have missed some of the stuff people keep talking about.  Maybe better that way!!

Talisin - we view Ben as a chubby natural eared Dobe.

WDL - Isis is just color challenged.

We have a members who have some height challenged Dobes (Dachshounds) as well as normal height Dobes. While we are primarily Doberman, we don't exlude their cousins.

Hello and Welcome!  Feel free to start a new thread and introduce yourself and post some pictures!  Tell us all about your pup.  Now about the dobe$, that's a very good question that has been asked a bunch of times before as NONE of us except the mighty webby knows the answer to.

Wow...okay another one of life's mysteries I guess.  Thanks for the warm welcome!  Well, as for me, I'm a new doberman puppy owner.  She is my first one and I'm nervous and excited.  She's about 9 weeks old now.  That's about it, sorry for slack on details I'm still getting used to all this.

I never figured it out either.  I have done searches through old threads to figure it out, but I think it is mystery.  AlphaAdmin probably has something clever in mind for those.

I first thought thats how much people spent on their dobes... silly me!

Good Lord, I wish the dollars I have spent on my Dobermans was that small. Once, years ago, a receptionist at my vets looked up something and commented to me "so far you have spent $ on your dogs". The amount was over $5,000 and I had no idea. And that was over 15 years ago! I could find it if I queried my Quicken files, but I would rather not know the amount.

My babies are worth more than that though.

Dobiemom05 - with a 9 week old, shortly you will begin to understand why we call them little devils. When she begins to bite you, and she will, just pop her on the top of her nose with two fingers and say no. You won't hurt her with a two finger pop, and mama Doberman disciplines her litter by hitting them on the nose with her paw.

Hi, I am new here (sort of been lurking for a couple of weeks) and I see some "intersting" posts.  That being said, I will tell you about my wonderful male black/rust boy "Count Basie".  He was 2 last Thursday, and is the sweetest boy...loves my family (I have 4 young grandaughers and the happiness he feels when they are here is amazing to watch).  He is very active and quite handsome, and, I fear a bit overweight (95# or so)...we have got to stop letting him "lickie" from our plates.

"Basie" is our second: we had Pele for 11 years; he passed 2 yrs ago of DCM and we still miss him.  How different he was from Basie cannot be expressed in just a few words, but they both epitomize the best qualities of the breed.  I am so in love with the breed, but often find myself tongue-tied to explain their quaities to those who seem "on alert" when Basie is in their presence...oh well, too bad for them!

As soon as I learn how to post pics, I will do so...hopefully,there are instructions somewhere on this site.

I look foward to learning and sharing.

I know, what are dobie dollars?  Two good things in life dobermanns and dollars they should go hand in hand. lol  I wonder that too.  I was thinking it meant how many times something was viewed.  Just took Kaiser for walk.  He's six months this week, sometimes when we walk he raise his hackels for a bit and nothing is around?  He has never met anyone or thing he has't liked.  Does anyone else have this experience? thanks and welcome all new people. I am new to this to and it has been a positive experience.   I love seeing pictures of everyones babies!!

Well, you get Dobe$ every time you post, so I think it's just something that keeps track of people's activity on the forum.  On other forums there are points or badges or titles you are "awarded" once you post a certain number of times, and I think the $ are this forum's version of that.  It's a way of being able to tell which member are very active and/or have been participating in the forum for a long time.  Also a way to help tell if someone is a troll b/c people who come around just to stir up trouble wouldn't have a lot of points/dollars/whatever b/c they tend to get banned before they can accumulate them and would have to come up with a new name and start from zero of they want to continue to stir up trouble.

Welcome, Michelemerc and Basie.  Your story about losing Pete is so sad.  I also lost a sweet sweet doberman girl two years ago to cancer, and my current girl, Ziva just turned two last weekend.

Hope to hear more from you about Basie.  Great name, btw.

Hello All,

New to the forum, from Alberta Canada, have a 10yrs young red male and a 4(?) black female rescue, my Dad also has 2 dobes.  Some of the stories here are funny, esp that destroyed couch (sorry to the owner there).

Looking forward to being part of this online community!

Hi my name is Kayla.

I am wanting to get a puppy (not for a couple of months at least!) and am looking for a male isabella fawn. I just love the color. It is hard to find a breeder here in Michigan! Even in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio! I dont mind going a little ways to get my puppy but not too far.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Also can anyone tell me why you shouldnt get a White Dobie?

I keep seeing that you should never get one....but why are peoplebreeding them then?

A think they look stunning, I know they arnt one of the main colors of the Doberman...

Thanks

Z-factored (white) dobermans can have MAJOR health issues, and to risk your dog having these issues just for a color?? It's wrong.

Plus, any one purposely breeding these dogs isn't a reputiple breeder in the first place, and you shouldn't get a dog from them anyways. It's one of the ways to distinguish a byb/greeder from a true breeder.

Also keep in mind that the fawns can have issues with their skin and hair.  We had a rescue fawn male, Clyde.  There's a picture of him in his pet profile.  His fur was much shorter and thinner than our new boy's.  It was very thin under his front legs and on his belly.  And some fawns get very bald and/or have skin allergies.  Responsible breeders don't breed for color.  And I think I read on this site recently that there's a genetic test for the dilute colors, so some breeders are not even breeding dogs that may produce dilute puppies.

I do love the fawn color too though...if only b/c I have a soft spot for it b/c Clyde was our first dobe.  I would rescue another one.

Wow.. all the new members here and I'm sorry I haven't been on the Welcome Wagon

I love the Gentle Doberman Forum. Not only have I learned things I never dreamed of, I have made some life long friends and appreciate all the posts received.

It has become almost a family, if you will, and we are here to support and respect your differences, opinions and thoughts.

We don't' always agree... that's what forums are all about; and I for one, am grateful to everyone who shares my passion for the breed and teaches me something I lack

Enjoy, post pictures, ask questions and have fun!

Kate and Sofia

Why do people breed albinos?  That is easy..... GREED!!  They for sure don't care about the breed because if they did they would not be deliberately breeding for a genetic mutation like albino!!

KKolberg2007 - actually my almost 3 year old red female, Princess, came from Michingan. But they are not breeding anymore.

There is a current litter in Ohios that just passed the 6 week age. There are discussed here:

http://www.gentledoberman.com/forums/doberman-pinscher-discussion/doberman-pinscher-puppies-sale/litter-akc-dobermans-ohio

and are shown on Facebook here:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Craiglows-Dobermans/167567813324662?sk=wall

They look good, and of the litter of 10, 6 are already reserved. I beleive the available pups are 1 black male, 1 red male and 2 red females. (If everything goes according to plans, I will pick up my little red male this weekend. He will be my 14th Doberman stretching over 29 years.)

Thank you everyone! I appreciate all the information!

I was just curious about the Z Dobies. I wouldnt ever buy one for their color. Poor things!

I have been readikng about the skin issues too on the fawns...thats why im torn between getting one and a black and tan. For some reason I dont like the tan coloring...the just remind me of hounds.

If there is anymore information that anyone could give me that would be greatly appreciated!! I definitly like this forum!

Hi I am a first time doberman owner, I lost my shepherd mix five years ago I cried a river and after my grief subsided I found that I really missed having a large dog around, she always made me feel safe. After visiting a friend who had a doberman and researching the breed I decided to get one. It was hard finding a breeder near by and then finances prohibited me for a time. Well I am happy to say that good things come to those who wait. I now have a lovely girl named Jade. I am amazed at how quickly she has stolen my heart!! I look forward to learning all I can here.
