Hey all,

A quick update on my doberman search. As you know I said today I would be meeting a special needs Italian Greyhound.

Several of you mentioned a rottie being a good choice so I contacted a local rescue about a possible rescue who was labeled as a possible therapy dog. They responded this morning and she fits what I am looking for except they need to really cat test her and they even offered to borrow a pair of crutches to crutch test her. Boy what a difference in this rescue over the doberman rescue I had such a nightmare with. Also the greatest thing is that the dog is only a little over an hour away. So my husband came in from work today and we discussed it, decided to go see the little italian and let them know I had put out a request for a service type dog.

We had the meeting with the Italian Greyhound, he is adorable, very very fat but adorable, loves everybody and everything but very bonded to his caregivers.  This is the rescue organization I worked for until recently, when they moved out of my area. Anyway, he is really bonded to them, they said he jumps on the dining room table, the countertops etc. I was stunned - and they said he would jump down - without breaking his legs even with all the weight. He was not really interested in us and was focused solely on the house where the rescuers had retreated to to let us have time with him. When I told them I was looking into a service dog and gotten a reply today, they were excited for me and will keep the little greyhound unless he absolutely has to find a home at which point they will notify me and see where our family is at that point.

Been back in touch with the rottie foster parent and she is excited so we are working on the rottie and her personality traits and all that good stuff. Being so close by I can take the chi and collie to meet her before up rooting her.

Thanks for reminding me of a rottie and encouraging that route, she is a slim trim rottie but nice looking girl, about a year to two old. If I can figure out how to post a photo I will put her pic here, her name is Kee Kee Dee.

I know you will make the perfect match. You're doing the right thing by taking your time and doing your homework.

For some reason. I think I'm leaning towards Kee Kee Dee.

but you haven't met her yet.. it should be an instant karmic connection IMHO

Good luck and thank you for the update

My sister has a Rottie/Shepherd mix and he has tons of energy, is lithe, and is a total lovebug.  We babysat him a lot in our home before we got Steve to see how a big dog would fit in our lives.  He gets hot in the summer and passes out on the cool tiles and would gladly sleep the day away on the couch with you.  But he'll get up and run 4 miles with me and Steve, play with Steve in the backyard all day, and romp around greeting everyone.

I love the picture!!! What wonderful faces!!!

I really wish I were getting a doberman but I am do my research and MY wants will not be my deciding factor, I will go with what is best for a dog and me - after all we have to tolerate each other, hahahaha,

As much as I adore dobermans one might just need more physical input than my body can provide, and I am not willing to do a dis-service to the dog. So rather than get a fur baby and find out I can't provide proper exercise and all, and knowing that I would never give the animal up, then we would both have a less than ideal life. Not fair. See I keep telling myself this even with the keyboard - a doberman doesn't need ME, a doberman doesn't need ME, I will keep saying this and writing it a hundred times on the chalkboard till I learn......

I think the chalkboard might be in trouble... lolz

Thats what I had to keep telling my self when my mom told me she didn't want a dobe a year ago. I circulated through every breed I could think of and only a few even came close. When My mom finally gave in... My search began!!!! Your search is only beginning and will continue until you find the perfect boy or girl... just keep on keepin' on.
