We don't have that problem because our entire family, mine and Eli's, are animal people.  I don't have any friends that aren't animal people, either.  Actually, when Miles got hurt and I put it on Facebook I was surprised by how large of a response I got from people I knew long, long, long time ago.

But it still gave me a chuckle and thought you guys might like to read too.

Happy Sunday!

Nothing annoys me more than when people come to my home, then complain about and or act negatively towards my dogs. They are my kids, you don't like them? Then I probably don't like you much...

I love this...its so true ^.^

One reason my late sister and I liked to visit each other so much was that we would take our dogs with us. When she came to visit she would bring her three Min. Schnauzers and when I would visit her, I would take my three Min. Schnauzers. Shortly after she moved in to her new house and I was visiting, she and I were sitting in the kitchen talking. It was quiet and peaceful as all 6 of the munchkins were sleeping in their crates.

A neighbor from across the street came over and commented how quiet it was and wondered if her dogs were gone. She said no, her three were in their crates in her bedroom. Then she added that my three Min. Schnauzers were in their crates in my bedroom. You could see the wheels turning as she added up the numbers. Then she said, you mean you have 6 dogs in the house. She replied yes, and then added that I had not brought my two Dobermans, and when she visited me there were 8 dogs in my house. At that point her eyes appeared to glaze over and she went into TILT mode.

BTW - althoughe sis is gone I still have 5 dogs, although Princess has replaced Betsy in the count. For a while after she was gone, I actually had four Min. Schnauzers as I brought her old male back with me rather than see him go to rescue. I figured he would last for about 6 months, but in fact he lasted three years. It was not a question in my mind as Tim had always gotten along well with mine when he visited here and mine visited there. However, they really don't like the Dobermans too much. Min. Schnauzers are such snobs.

Do love the sign though and really agree with it 100%.

love the sign... we have actually converted 2 female friends.  They we both "afraid " of big dogs, but once they got to know Tony and Tory, they became their biggest fans.  It's hard to be afraid when Tony comes and puts his big head in your lap and wags his nub, or when Tory backs and sits next to you on the couch.  And I have only known 1 min. Schnauzer, and she was a great gal, kinda timid, and didn't do stairs, but still a little lover

Love the sign

I have one posted on the outside of my front door that says "All vistiors must be approved by the Dogs".  Most everyone that knows us, KNOWS we have dogs, so it's ok.  My daughter used to have a boyfriend that would come here and sit on the couch and watch the dogs out of the corner of his eye like he was scared that they would shed a hair on him or something, and when the dobie would walk over and lick the back of his hand, he couldnt wipe it off fast enough!  I just smiled. Needless to say, I never liked that guy and was SO happy when my daughter dumped him.

True character does tell in the presence of discerning Dobermans.

At that age, I might have been very nervous around a Dobie as it seems that when I was working installing Air Cond. ductwork it seemed that on every job there was a huge Doberman next door that clearly wanted to eat me for lunch.

I now realize they were just making sure I knew that the fence meant I was not wanted on the other side. Of course after 28 years with them I have become very accustomed to their true nature - cuddle babies. Princess as of late has displayed a desire to sit/lay in my lap and be a cuddle baby - all 72 pounds of her.

I have that one saved too, it's quite the classic.

now that I'm getting married I get constantly asked if we are having kids.  I tell them I'll have children the day it's legal to tie a baby to the back of the pick-up  with food and water, and go ride for an hour at the track....until then I'll stick with my dog..

LOL Lori!

Princess is such a doll... :)

And oh my.. I couldn't imagine having anyone last very long with me or my family if they weren't animal people.  I've always had a zoo in my adult life, I couldn't imagine anyone NOT being okay with 2 cats, 2 dogs, ferrets, rats, birds... I had quite the influx of pets when I was teching.  0:)

Eli met me when I only had two dogs.. and he thought that was a lot.  He's capped me at three dogs and no cats or any other furry creatures.  We'll see.. I figure if he gets to have more than three cars I should be able to have more..!

Bbroyles - my late sister had a very unique sense of humor. She was visiting one time when we were having a lot of rain. The guest bedroom is at the end of the house where the land drops off a bit and has a slight depression. In times of heavy rains, I get water standing there for several days.

She went into the bedroom and it was raining, so I asked her to look out the window and see if there was any water standing. She called out she wasn't sure, but there was a fellow setting up a sign saying "Boats for Rent". (Translation - there was a lot of standing water).

Another time she was visiting for my birthday in 2003. I came home from work and came in the house. She asked me if I noticed the mailbox. Of course I came home on autopilot and paid absolutely no attention to the mailbox when I turned into the drive. So, I replied "No, why?" She said she had put a black balloon on it in honor of my big 60 birthday. My reaction was "YOU DIDN'T". Then she started laughing. She had put a red, white and blue balloon celebrating the 4th of July (which was the next day).

We were always threatening to send each other our dogs when they were acting up. I would call her and say that FedEx was bringing her a box with air holes in it. She would ask how many this time? I would say something like "it's a very very large heavy box". She would then respond back with "What has Red done now?". Then a few days later she would call me and say the same thing. I said, Oh, I'm sorry, I haven't given you my new address - I've moved" and of course I had not.

We both enjoyed having a good time and enjoying life. We both like telling each other jokes and having a good time. We both enjoyed our dogs and made no bones about it.

R Green,I enjoy reading your stories!
I can just see the uniformed FedEx man, clipboard under one arm, looking at a washing machine sized box, punched out with holes. You're at the door talking to him about the holes. The box wiggles a little, startles him, he falls clumsily over it which causes the lid to fly off. As he gets to his feet and staightens himself... Out Pops Red! Never to be seen on your route again.
I miss your sister!

bbroyles - when we were kids, we fought. I was the brat little brother, and she and her BF were good to me. How many guys taking a girl out for a date take the little brother with them He did several times, and they got married and had about 20 good years. The last 12 not so good with alcolhol problems resulting in his passing in '85.

She had always loved dogs and animals, but he did not so that is when she started getting dogs. Although they had a few before then, but they were never in the house. When she was on her own, she got one of the puppies from Windy's first litter. Gretyl was really good for her and she really loved that dog. She then got into Min. Schnauzers.

absolutely hysterical, love it.

I felt so bad the other day - an insurance agent came to the house and although I knew he had pets, I did notice that he had on a wonderfully costly black suit and he walked right in the house where we have a microsuede chair that has a kitty blanket on it for the cat but we can then fold it up and move it so company can sit in the chair without hair - well you guessed it he sat on the kitty blanket and had a very white fuzzy butt when he left the house, saying all along that it was ok. Gotta love that insurance guy....

The motherinlaw well she's a different case, she didn't visit for years because she felt animals belonged outside not in. But when we refused to put the animals out and sent her home instead she began to tolerate them, she even wants us to bring the chihuahua to her house when we visit.

And just recently, November, the one friend that I could go out with, (alot of people feel conspicious with me and uncomfortable so I don't have a ton of friends to go out with) we were in my car it was 90 something degrees, had the top down on the car and I saw in the middle of a concrete island at a redlight a homeless man with a kitten on his shoulder, it had a halter on but was about to have heat stroke, having animal hospital experience I recognized the signs so I whipped the car around and gave him the bottle of water I had and told him to give it to the kitten. About a mile down the road I told my friend I was turning around and I would like for her to get out and ask the man if we could have the kitten to take to the hospital she refused, I said ok if you won't ask for it free then I have $300 in my purse offer to pay for the kitten and you can go as high as $300 and I was horrified when she still refused.  I told her if she wouldn't do it then I would have no recourse but to stop my car in a lane of traffic and leave her in the car while I got out my crutches and went to him - which was safer her or me out of the car - she still refused I said fine, hold on tight cause here we go - got turned around and the man was gone much to her relief. Afterwards when I dropped her at her car I told her that I guessed I had failed to inform of her of my car rules so I would do it now - anyone that gets in my car is expected to be ready at any time to jump out of the car and assist any and all animals in distress and if you refuse to do so then you are no longer allowed to ride with me cause you are then in my way. Well the end result is we no longer do anything together - we speak but that's all. I told her later that I was shocked that she would choose not to help an animal when needed, she never has addressed why she won't but at least I don't have to argue with someone about jumping to rescue a needy animal.

Animals are my priority in and out of my home, people know this about me they either like it or stay away, I even have a gothic fairy plaque that shows the fairy pointing away from the front door and  the plaque says GO AWAY hahahahaha. I think I will print a copy of this sign and adjust it for my car rules, hahahahahaha....
