I lost my Tory today.

Oh God, how do I do this again.  I lost my Tory today.  She had arthritis really bad in one hind leg.  This week her front legs started giving out.  I had to help her outside, she fell a couple of times, face in the snow.  She wasn't eating, not even canned food. I should have taken her in last week, but my son and his family were here this week from NYC and I wanted him to be able to say goodbye.  He went with me to take her to the vets.  Thank God,  he carried her to the car, then into the clinic. Tor had trouble standing, it was so bad.

So, Tony's been a little whiney the last week or so, I have left Tory's bed where it always was, will be interesting to see if he uses it, he never did before.  we'll see.  Here's a picture I took this morning.  The sparkle had gone out of her eyes.  She was the best girl dog I ever had.  God speed Tory.

This breaks my heart to hear this.  I know exactly what you mean when you say the spark had gone out of her eyes.  My Darmok was the same way when the cancer tumors took over inside of her.  It's so hard to let them go, but on the other hand, it really IS the kindest thing you can do for them when it gets that bad.

You have my prayers, Chris, and I'm quite sure that the prayers of many will be going out for you tonight and for many days to come.

Chris, I too am just sick and heartbroken for you.  I have no words, just sending love and big big hugs.  You are very courageous, and somehow you'll get through.

Sorry for the loss of Tory, we also had to make the same difficult decision with our old Red Dobe on Saturday so I totally feel your pain...but it is an important part of being a pet owner, we have to relieve their suffering...my guy had a nerve root tumor that had gone into his lymphatic system and was dragging a front leg, amputation not possible since it was in the shoulder (and not practical on an 11.5yr old Dobe)

I like to think my Dad's dobe (my dog's uncle) and our friend's two dobes were waiting for him (and your Tory) at the rainbow bridge...

Take care...

There are no words to express this sort of heartbreak.  And hard to type them in any case with tears fogging things up.

Just know she waits for you with sparkling eyes at the rainbow bridge.

Dear Chris, Chris' family and Tony,

All our hearts are with you in this difficult and sad winter.

We wish you healing and glad days to come as spring arrives and the sun warms up everything. You did good by Tory, she is in the happy hunting grounds with all who were there waiting.

best and kindest wishes,

 woof from Bella too

The last thread was a happy one...  was that her in the hat?

Sorry doesnt even begin to explain how I feel for you and Tony. Its been so awful for you the last six months. All I can suggest to you is to cling onto Tony and just love him. You two need each other now more than ever. I will keep you and Tony in my prayers that one day you are reunited with your loved ones, animal and humans on the other side.

Chris, I am deeply sorry for your loss!  I know how hard it is to lose a cherished member of the family and only time will heal the hole left in our hearts.  I say ours because I know many on here probably read and replied to your lose with tears welling in the corners of their eyes, just like me.

My best to you and yours!

So sad to read this post. Its so hard to see them go to sleep that last time. Our little Jazz went to her final sleep last year and I wouldn't wish this on anyone. My thoughts are with you all. Thank God that you have Tony and that he has you. What really helped us was thinking that they're in a better place with no more pain and effort and age. Just all the balls, toys, hugs and cuddly blankets a dog could want. We'll pray for Tory. Lots of love Grainne and Reggie.

Thank you all so much.  Tony and I are, again, trying to find a new normal.  Too many changes too quickly.  I so appreciate all of your kind words.  You can't possibly know how you have all touched my heart.  I sit and read your comments and cry for the caring and compassion you all have, not only for me, but also for my Tony.  I have a lot of great friends, but very few of them have asked how the dogs are doing (and only one asked about the cats).  But, you guys, above and beyond.  So, again, thank you my friends.

hugs to you all, and the pooches,

Chris & Tony

Chris, I too am here by phone.  I lost my husband, my 15 year old Border Collie and my 17 year old Golden within 3 months.  It was hard to put one foot in front of the other, felt like I was in a great abyss.  But I did, and you can too. Cry my darling, cry alot.  Tony is there for you, love on him, he needs it too.

Oh my I am SOOOOOO sorry to hear about Tory!!!! When the spark leaves their eyes it is so heart wrenching so heart wrenching.......I cry for you, Tory and Tony oh how Tony must be wondering what happened.....I send my thoughts and prayers and will light a candle for Tory......I know when Goofy died I left his beds out in the house and Ben chose one and only one to keep as his own, it was sad and happy at the same time to see Ben in Goofy's bed, maybe Tony will find Tory's bed a comfort like Ben did Goofy's.....hugs to all and know I share your pain and grief

haven't been on the site much in the last few weeks and I'm so saddened by some of the news.  I just finished reading about Ben and now this...talk about being kicked when you're already down.   I hope you find the strength to get up and enjoy life again soon...

Thank you everyone for your kind words.  We're doing okay, or rather I'm doing okay, Tony is a wreck.  He was always very needy, now he is beyond needy.  I am trying to type and his head is on my hand.  He is spending his days with my son so he's not home alone all day.  he has never been home alone.  I did go out to dinner with some of Dave's friends Saturday night and left him home alone.  I came home and he was back in the corner trembling, just like after we lost Dave.  I hate to leave him, maybe next time I'll take him and just leave him in the car.He does enjoy that.

I know I can't answer each of you seperately, but I do want to say,

Julia, that was Tory in the hat, Tony had one on too, but his slipped off his head.  I knew that she wouldn't be here for her birthday so I did want one last picture...

Kim, I am sure Dave was waiting for her with open arms.

Albertabluesky, I am so sorry for your loss also.  Buddy will be at the rainbow bridge waiting for you too.

Happydance, I have been doing one foot in front of another for a long long time.  How did you survive 3 of them so close together.

Tali, Hugs to you and Ben.

Everyone else, thank you, thank you, thank you my friends.  This has been a hard year, you are all my inspriation.

my love to you all

alberta - I am SO SORRY I did not see your post about losing your baby too!!! Oh what bad news all around to hear of so many crossing over.....that sounds very painful what your baby was suffering with, and 11 1/2 wow that was great in itself,  times like that it does keep guilt from creeping in which is what happens to me, when it is so obvious that they are suffering you know you did what had to be done, for me my animals don't give as certain a sign as your's did and it leaves me wondering if I did the right thing, just know you did.....it is so hard to say goodbye regardless, the pain is so viable - take your time and grieve, some people don't understand that a day, a week, or even year from now something will trigger a crying spell or a sad moment but we understand....this forum is great when you lose a companion.

Chris, stay strong, alot of losses, I can only imagine how badly Tony wishes he could talk and ask questions, poor baby, all those he loves are leaving him, and cowering and trembling in the corner how sad for him that his world has changed and he doesn't understand.....you guys will get through this together, hugs to you both....
