We had our AKC CGC test last night, and the Deej passed with flying colors!  She was the first one tested, and all the other dogs and their families were seated outside the ring area, so it was like performing in front of an audience....just a tad intimidating.  ;)

DJ did every command I gave her on the first verbal cue.  No treats were allowed to be used, or even anywhere on me.  She's had this 'shy factor' all her life where she has to know someone for quite some time before she feels comfortable enough to let them touch her without moving her head away from their hand when they reach out to pet her, or even stepping around behind me if someone approaches her.  We've worked really really hard on trying to overcome that over the past few weeks, and she did great during her test.  She allowed the examiner to touch her, pat her head, rub her cheeks, rub around on both ears and look inside them, pet her on the neck, chest and back, lift up her lips to look at her teeth, and even offered her left paw to the examiner when she had to touch her front feet.  DJ is 'left handed', so she continued to offer the left paw, even when she wanted to see the right one, but she didnt shy away when the examiner stroked her right leg and took her right foot and lifted it up to rub her toes.  She did her sit/stays and down/stays perfectly.  Recall was picture perfect.  Didnt flinch an inch when a metal bucket with a big wooden spoon in it was dropped behind her (distraction), did the forward, right turn, left turn, about turn and stop on loose leash better than I expected her to do.  Walking through the 'crowd' of people was no big deal, until one of the smaller kids decided to run and skip (she wasnt supposed to do that, but hey---it was a kid) and DJ jumped at the end of her leash because she wanted to run and play with the kid, but a quick leash correction got her right back in focus.

I am telling the truth here---she was so much better than the other 2 dogs I stayed to watch test.  SO much better.  She really made me proud.

Way to go DJ and congrats!

Next you can go for "beginner novice" or if you're feeling really good "novice A". Both can get her some more alphabet soup behind her name.

Congratulations DJs Dad, you did a excellent job.

There is a Rally-Beginner class starting up around the end of this month that I am considering.  No titles there, but maybe something to do just to keep her wheels in motion for good instead of evil.  LOL

Oh Paul  I'm so proud of the both of you and how hard you two have worked. Axel is doing his third class and it's getting harder for the both of us but we press on. You and DJ are my inspiration when things get hairy. Seriously, I read your threads before each class. Keep up the great work and maybe one day Axel and DJ could meet and people could see two well behaved, smart Dobes.

Thanks, all you guys.  I love the support we give each other here!

We found a new thing to try coming up in a couple of weeks....Rally-Obedience, or "Rally-O".  One of the training facilities we have gone to for other things is starting a 4 week Rally Novice class, and even though I had heard of it before, I wasnt sure exactly what it was.  I looked it up on google and youtube, and found it to be something I think we can do and would very much enjoy.  Nothing physically strenuous on my part (Gettin' too old for running thru agility courses, now) but would offer some intense mental exercises for DJ, which, I have found to be just as good as physical exercise to wear her out. Got to keep her mental wheels turning for good instead of evil.  LOL

Will keep you guys updated on our Rally-O classes when we start doing them!
