Hey GD members!

I really hope you guys can help me out! You see we are planning a vacation over sea's to Ireland for at least 2 whole weeks, this coming fall. And I have absolutely no one I could trust with my little poodle, Chickadee for that long. I have a terrible time trusting "anyone" with my dog, as I hope you can understand.

I live in AR, so if you guys know of any really good bording facilities nearby, or it wouldn't have to be a special bording place, maybe just someone who could care for her during that time. The problem I have, is I know there are many people who love dogs to death, but that's not what I want. I need some who understands dogs for who they are, like AresMyDobe, or Gun_slinger2006, those are the kind of people I believe I could trust with my dog!

I don't mind traveling a couple states away, after all we are flying way farther than that! At least I have a nice amount of timers work with!

Oh gosh I'm flattered lol I do not blame you what so ever for wanting to make sure your dog is in the best hands ! I barely leave my guys ... Mostly cuz I'd miss them so much hahaha there is only one person I leave my pups with and its my mom, she understands how much they mean to me, she even lets silly Ares sleep in her bed with her :) I wouldn't want to take them to a doggie day care because I wouldn't want an injury or worse .. Heard to many horror stories. I would look for a training facility that actually knows there stuff. But my go to would be a family memeber or a close friend. Possibly a pet sitter but I would be grilling them in an interview lol

I rarely am apart from my Chickadee either, she goes everywhere with me, even horse back riding! I have a special front pack I strap her into, and she loves it:) I am almost dreading the trip without her, though I'm sure it will be fun!

I do have many relatives (not many friends though), but I would trust known of them:( for one thing they let there dogs run, and have no fence (totally against what I believe), they have had an alarming amount of dogs run off, become lost (they usually don't microchip), get run over by vehicles ect.. The dogs have no rules, boundaries, or limitations, so they aren't very mannerly, it's affection and practically nothing but affection, and I just can't get along with that. I'm afraid who I leave her with would praise her for something I would correct. And of course there's safety, I always keep her on a leash in unfenced areas, and if I can't keep an eye on her, I put her in her kennel. She is a very well mannered little dog, and I intended to keep her that way:)

Yes I to would not want to keep her at a kennel, or day care, like you say Ares- way to risky! But hey that's not a bad idea about that training facility! I hadn't even thought of that, I'm glad you mentioned it!;)

I can see this is not going to be easy- at all!

When we went to Phoenix to visit our friend in the hospital there, we took Bella, (from Los Angeles) and needed a place to board Bella while visiting our friend.

We found Ruff Life Dog Retreat in outer //south Phoenix. Bella stayed there for a day and we felt that they took very good care of her. They are reachable on DogvacaY .COM. We would let them care for Bella again, if neccessary.

However they had mostly larger dogs, but they had different areas available and seemed to understand how dogs interact. Rover.  com is also good. Both dot coms are very well insured for in home non kennel personalized care.

Might not be right for you,  but these scenarios typically work for us. If you want her to be an only dog or only with other small dogs, there are usually many choices.

Good Luck! And have a Very Happy Trip!! So Jealous!!

There's this video I just saw on Facebook about a place called Happy Tails Resort. I believe it was in Missouri from what I remember and they offer a wide variety of services including boarding up to a month. I haven't known anyone personally to take their dogs there but maybe it's something you want to check out before you take your Chikadee :)

oh wow - my worst nightmare - having to trust someone to care for my babies

I don't know anyone in AZ so sorry - I do know that I would want to meet clients, dogs, etc. that have been in the care of any trainer, or doggie care facility - I have read too many horror stories of dogs sent to trainers who abused them by using hard rough techniques, and doggie day care that ignored the dogs and let them get injured so I would want references and visits to see everything etc.

Have you checked with your vet?? Our vet techs actually do dog sitting short and long term for clients - it might be an option if you like your vet and employees......and then if your dog needed anything they would be in the right hands for sure.....and the girls sit in house or take them to their house - check that out

Hey fellow's, thanks sooooo much for all the suggestion's! It has has given me some options I hadn't thought of before, and a li'l bit O hope- before I had none!

Ares, I thing I would want to see your dog perform way before you would want to see mine! LOL

Yes Talisin, just the thought of leaving my pup with any one is terribly dreadful!

Again, Thanks-so-much!!
